The game just completely passes him by in midfield and he must have the least presence of anyone close to 7ft tall in history when he plays up front.

Fuck only knows how you solve a problem like Woltemade but there doesn’t appear much light at the end of the tunnel for him.

He's not a striker either, I don't know what he is tbh. Said it before but he's one of the weirdest players I've seen. Big lad but weak and not very good in the air, doesn't attack crosses, can't shoot, good technique and can find a pass but poor off the ball. Second striker maybe, but we don't play like that.

Havertz but stretched

Fair comment on the Havertz comparison but at least he’s one of the dirtiest snidest cunts going.

I like him, I like his style, I want him to come good but it’s very Fraudesliga and is at the opposite of how we play at our best. I’m at a loss. Obviously a panic buy and we had to sign someone and I assume the plan was Wissa not to be injured/absolutely shite and ease him in but it’s gone terribly.

Felt like we were playing with a man less with him in midfield. Said at half time I hoped we’d seen the last of the Woltemade midfield experiment, it’s not fair on the lad and not fair on his teammates.

He's shite and he knows he's out his depth. Weekly summary - weak, soft, disinterested and can't get off the pitch quick enough. So passive it's untrue. Applies to Wissa too.

Wouldnt question his character in any way. He hasnt moaned once about being played out of position, getting no rest (at the beginning of the season), not being penalty taker then and now etc.

It was mad that he came back out after halt time last night. He was so far out of his depth.

This. He’s being asked to do a job outside of his typical role and isn’t good enough to do it. However, he’s hardly asked to be a square peg in a round hole.

I think he's absolutely quality and will have a great career, but sadly it's becoming glaringly obvious it isn't going to be with us.

The solution to getting the most out of him is playing him upfront with players closer to him, which means we either narrow the wide forwards or play 3-5-2.

The issue with either of those is we'd then be heavily reliant on the full backs for width, and we're already overly reliant on Hall and Livramento in our current system with a bit of a cliff edge when they're not available, let alone lumping more physical load onto them. The upside is we'd naturally thicken up the middle of the park and be less likely to be played through/could counter-press better, but if we didn't win the ball back we'd look a bit agricultural in that our defensive retreat would be little more than an old school "just run in a straight line back towards the goal and organise when you're behind the ball."

A shame it doesn't look like working out, but it is what it is.

Been a while since I wanted to be this wrong about something.

His impact has barely changed from when he played upfront. When he was 9 he played as an 8 and as an 8 he's playing as a 6 - he hides and drops deeeper and deeper to not be accountable.

He lacks any aggression or fight in one of the most aggressive physical leagues in the world. He's got zero desire to attack a ball upfront, or to protect the ball in midfield - he's a luxury. His best game was last week in bed with flu. We looked far more balanced and dynamic when's he's not floating around doing very little.

Just to repeat what others are saying; we can’t keep playing him there. Hung out to dry against one of the best passing and moving teams in Europe last night. He looked like he was piggy in the middle in a practice session. At times it also looked to me that we avoided passing to him as there was an expectation that he’d get dispossessed.

His game needs to adapt if he’s ever going to make it in the Premier League. Said it before, his training has to be to receive the ball and move it on in no more than 3 touches. At the moment he’s just getting closed down and bullied off the ball. He has the feet to move the ball on.

Has the feet, just not the speed, strength or courage.

Howe often played 4411 at Bournemouth and this second striker role is what he needs but EH seems wedded to 433 with the occasional 541 at present. Either there is a formation rethink in the summer or Nic needs to move house

Said exactly the same before the game KO’d. Crazy decision to play him there against them.

He looked lost, dazed and confused the entire night.

This experiment is not working.

Howe commented post-match that he didn't want to chuck Joelinton into a second game this week, so the midfield picked itself.

I agree, I don't think his medium to long term future is in the middle, it's papering over the cracks while Bruno is out, to allow us to return to familiar patterns of play.

Many said in the summer that Woltemade would require patience while he built up his understanding of his position and the English game.

For me the issue in that regard is Wissa. We overpaid for him specifically to hit the ground running and buy Woltemade time. Unfortunately, as both him and Isak have discovered, next to zero pre-season can absolutely fuck your form and fitness beyond a few weeks. The best case scenario there is he rediscovers a bit of form over the next season and we rekindle that move to Saudi.

Big Al piling in on him is not going to help.

Will assume nowt said against our Great Leader, for playing him in his wrong position as a midfielder, must'nt want to upset the club, so why not pummel him, the low hangong fruit..

Absolute crime to play him there. Why not use one of the young lads....who are actually midfielders?

Something off about it, been ill during the week, lost a few pounds he couldn't afford to,hoy him into midfield where he was totally ineffective, leave him on

Points to a surrender imo
