Howe’s always going to prefer a direct striker imo. Howe has had so much success with Wilson and Isak I can’t see him making such a drastic change in style.

Wolte news to watch Kane play.  Kane will try and break an offside trap a number of times a game. It gives defenders a different thing to consider.

Looked awful last few games, he takes too long with the ball, dosn't win headers to link up play and isn't fast enough to get behind the defence.

Need Wissa back for him to actually start working on his game with less pressure.

He loses possession 90% of the time. Yes we don't play to his strengths but defences already seem to have him sussed, if you get tight he doesn't have the speed to turn you.

Unfortunately defences are now stepping forward a few yards up the pitch as we've no Isak to run in behind and exploit any space. We don't carry that threat with Nick so we're being pushed back further and further.

He also needs to toughen up a fair bit, he's so passive, along with the two wingers - we're lightweight all round up top and with little passion to chase or fight for the ball.

Said this at half time.

He’s becoming a big problem.

Our wingers put in low crosses right infront of goal on a few occasion. It would have been a tap in, but there was noone there, Wolte was barely inside the box. How many times have we seen Isak score those type of crosses, by getting into that position? Our wingers rightly assumed that our striker would be there, but there was noone there.

Let's hope Wissa's our man for this, as Woltemade isn't.  He always seems to want to make a quick pass, never runs with it.  But without a CF playing there is noone forward with him to pass to.

He's looked a bit like this for most games IMO, just he's not getting the goals now. That run of scoring off every single chance was never going to last.

He's had flashes of brilliant footwork, but he doesn't really look like scoring in most games.

Why do they keep looking for that ball when no one is going to be in there?

Wolte needs to improve that side of his game. The wingers need to learn WolteMs movement better too.

Can see him getting the blame more as this goes on. But we don’t play to his strengths and that’s not his fault.

He's not to blame and hes definitely part of the cure.......but hes not a 9.

Agree, he's a good player. But we need Wissa there as well for our set up. Our team was built around a fast striker who gets in behind, Wissa was supposed to provide that option.

He’s not but some will point the finger. Although I think more people are informed about why things aren’t working these days but that typical match day fan who just goes to shout abuse will blame woltemade.

Probably instinct. We've had a direct style for years. How often do you hear top footballer explain assists with "I just put the ball in as I thought that he must be in there somewhere"? It's not like making your way towards goal only to have to turn around and pass it back out is an effective way of attacking. In the chances I'm talking about he was so far out that they would've literally had to stop and turn around to dribble away from goal to be able to find him. Instead of playing a simple cross and hoping that your striker is anywhere near goal.

We had isolation issues with our last striker, it can't continue. Having technical players basically competing for chucked passes and little else is no good. The team needs to progress in these games, we should be looking to pin teams back and using his touches in the final third.

He needs support and movement. He can of course also improve as well, especially physically, but we're not currently at all set up to get him on the ball in the areas he really wants. The less we attempt to get him into games, the less he's going to fight for daft balls.

Disagree but I know it’s not what most think. I think we’d have had more points if Wissa had been playing and Woltemade had been injured.

Playing a flat 3 in midfield is hurting us - said it before it has to be a double pivot with 1 ahead to link with midfield to the wingers and to the 9

As things stand the midfield isn't clever enough or sharp enough to play with this sort of striker.

They either take too many touches or are too careless with the ball. They just are incapable of playing it into him early and quickly before the other team get a bunch of bodies around him, and then making themselves available for the return ball.

Hopefully Tino and Hall coming back gets us forward quicker and opens up more space for the team and things improve off the back of that.

Feel bad for him.

There’s tiny little sparks of it, an attack here or there, but agree the general link up play with him is trash. I can see him drifting to Lewis Hall’s side as he gets it.

Getting the best out of his game relies on us pushing the opposition back and allowing him to make nice bits of link up play in and around the box. He's spent most of his time here on the halfway line.
