"Howe was involved in the process along with majority shareholders, Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund (PIF), and co-owner James Reuben.

PIF has also been aware of Wilson for several years, including interest when he was sporting director at Rangers between 2019 and 2023, in which time the club won their first league title for a decade and reached the Europa League final.

His profile, as a sporting director who creates a strong club culture and builds the infrastructure needed to support a manager, is also seen as being a good fit for Howe who is hands-on with recruitment and football matters."

Sounds like Howe certainly had a say in the process (expected after Mitchell), but nothing to suggest he chose him.

Like the sound of that tbh. Sounds ideal.

Howe's situation is quite unique, but he's earned the right to have things set up in a way that works for him.

Wilson will be clear on what is expected from the outset, and so there should be no surprises this time around.

Just glad they've found someone that's on board with the whole setup, because I think it's pretty crucial.

I think people seem to be operating on the extremes of the discussion with these types of appointments. To many of them a manager cannot have any involvement with these matters or else the process is tainted. But that's silly. Of course you want your manager - who has been incredible for the club - to be in accord with whoever you select for Sporting Director. Crucially, that does not mean the manager demanded a certain person or asked for certain things, it just means they will be working closely and need to be in agreement on how to go about doing the job. We have seen very clearly what happens when we don't have cohesion behind the scenes.

I have no idea if this is a good appointment or not. Time will tell, as ever. But the process makes sense and I'm glad someone competent will be in place soon.

Not sure that's the barometer, tbf

An entire fan base, during every breathing hour, are like our match threads, hate catholics, hate brown people, hate their own country?

Absolutely vital. Otherwise might as well sack him and start over.

It’s 50/50. You don’t want a DoF who end of day is swayed by Howe to spend £50m on prem players. Has to be give and take, need to sign some lower cost players and Howe working with them and backed to be giving time to improve them, whilst also going over his head and selling players that are not in core 15 of squad.

Not sure I agree with Eddie being involved like.

Not sure that our best manager in 20 years and arguably our best manager in 40 years shouldn't be involved in decision making at the top the club?

If I could, i would clone Eddie and having doing every job.

The more yes men around our manager the better, because right now hes the one pulling us up and up.

Don't really care about reputation, will see how he delivers for us before any excitement or opinion is made, been told to love our previous appointments and that didn't go too well.

Might help being Callum's brother though, ties in well with Harvey and John.

Yeah, I'm pretty sure he'll be involved in all those discussions and will have his say.

Ultimately, Howe has had final say on signings up to now and that's set to continue.

And so need someone that is aligned with what he's trying to do with the squad.

If that's not the case then there's no point keeping the manager.

Hope this doesnt drag out longer and we get this announced after the weekend.

We need to Crack on and get settled.

Hopefully 3rd time the charm. Ross seems to have the weakest c.v. out of him, ashworth and Mitchell. But seeing as other two didn't work out, its not a great guague. Having Howe involved is pivotal.

Hopefully this time it works. He has done well at forest imo.

Was it though? Correct me if I'm wrong because I forget more shit than I know these days but it was a deadline day signing when we had no striker and were on the precipice of relegation? Which promptly got turned around?

He didn't bang them in but didn't we get most of our money back to boot?

Yeah, all of that is correct and he still looked an absolute carthorse for us.

He gave us some shape, and a target man. He did a job for us and we got a good deal on him when sold. Nothing but good thoughts for Wood and glad he’s been banging them in for Forest.
