Ross Wilson (Sporting Director)

Recommended Posts

Obviously best of luck to him but twice bitten, thrice……?

I see it more of a committee now? Suds will bring the list or cross reference suggestions from Wilson or Howe against his database. If it fits the model they’ll agree on something.

Jury is out Wilson, a lot of these guys have proven to be absolute charlatans so zero expectations this time.

Suds crunches the numbers to create a long list

A Howe watches players play and refines long list, also asks around to suss out their personalities and attitude

E Howe gives Suds and A Howe thumbs up or thumbs down on each player on his long list

Wilson taps the players agent and does the deal with the players club

Yasir sorts the lowey

N-O posters cry out in horror about how the player is shite and we’ve overpaid

Howe coaches player

Player is class

We win things

I’d be very surprised if Eddie was involved in deciding if he should be hired or not (since when does a manager of any organisation decide who his boss will be?). More likely Eddie was brought in to explain his philosophy for the folk responsible for hiring him to get his thoughts on Eddie.

Gotta tell you Vinny, this is purely on name only and I'm fully expecting an explanation as to how he's the worst thing since the plague.[emoji38]

 I was laughing more at the Catts for Me like comment. And I'm a bit of a plague enthusiast.

Not expecting much here

Suds, Eddie's nephew and now some bloke who has made clubs worse?

Better than nowt is not an executive recruitment strategy

Might as well have gone got the lad who's leaving Sunderland

Eddie wielding too much power? No checks and balances? Recipe for it to blow up in the club's face

Like it has been so far as he's been running the show more or less to this point?

Hopefully he stays longer than the others 😂In all seriousness it'll

make a huge difference going into January and then crucially next summer. Club needs some stability now and with the right acquisitions next summer (or even someone this Jan if they’re available) we’re not far off becoming a seriously good team.

He basically just needs to make the deals happen, but have a strong grip on our PSR position.

Say Howe wants a particular midfielder that he/Andy H/Nickson have identified. Wilson handles the negotiations with the player & club. He may need to go back to Howe and say "It's going to cost £Xm more than we thought so if we do this deal we might not be able to sign your first choice RB", then Howe will make the ultimate decision on that. Wilson then either seals that deal or moves on to an alternative. Likewise with contract negotiations.

Howe won't be Wilsons boss, but it's absolutely right that he ultimately decides which players are coming in and out of the squad because it's his job on the line if we don't perform on the pitch.

Why ?

Hes the best thing that’s happened in the club in the last 4 years,  in terms of all the improvements happening on the pitch and training pitch

He’s a workaholic , dedicated and has improved virtually every player since he began !!

Deserves as much input as he wants

Yeah, that's what I was meaning. Obviously EH will be involved at some level, I just wouldn't expect him to be overly involved in the whole process.

Reads very much like a non-NUFC fan

New poster who has mostly posted on Sunderland and Bruce threads (at the time I looked) set off my alarm bells ngl. Chose to ignore it afterwards.
