Ross Wilson (Sporting Director)

Recommended Posts

Have no strong feelings about this at all. Hopefully he’s a good fit, the only way we’ll know is if he’s at the club in three year’s time and we’re in better shape than now. No sporting director should ever be in post for less than 3 years and if they leave before then it’s because they’re awful or a snake

Is this a good appointment? If so why? My footballing knowledge outside of NUFC is very limited.

Pretty much because he apparently has Eddie's seal of approval really, and we really need someone that can slot into the current setup and work well with the people in place already.

We really just need an experienced DOF that can navigate the agent world and already has contacts and relationships built up over the years.

I just can't see the club continuing to make progress long term without someone settling into this role longer term, and so really good to see this sorted, with someone the manager is comfortable with.

Has pretty much been my only concern with Howe, is finding the right person that he can work alongside in this role, because we have to have someone in there. Never really agreed with the view we could operate without one.

Bit of a mixed bag at rangers

but I assume he’s being brought in more as an Ashworth figure to link everything up and getting it running smoothly rather than being a recruitment visionary. The recruitment team seem to know what they are doing.

Yeah, certainly how I see it.

I don't think we're after someone that is going to come in and advise on what players to sign necessarily.

Moreso just need an experienced deal maker that has relationships and contacts with agents etc to make deals much easier to do.

Hopefully this is the last time we hear his name mentioned in the media. Just get down to business and let actions speak for themselves.

Unless his job is to be Eddie's servant (which it might be, which would be ok by me), I disagree.

DoFs need to be accountable and their actions visible - otherwise they can skulk around in the dark, casually wrecking things and unfairly destroying the reputations of their higher profile colleagues.

He doesn't need to be all over the media, but realistically he should be somewhere.

This will indeed be his job.

They might let him buy some upcoming players if we have budget for it.

It doesn't mean its bad though, he's of a profile where other clubs probably won't look at him so has potential to be around for Eddies entire tenure. Additionally it seems like we can't renew our players until he's in place so that's another positive

We've had 2 big name Charlie's since the takeover and both have hampered our progress one way or another and left us knee deep. I'm all for someone competent coming in and carving a name for himself with us, someone to steady the ship and have a solid working relationship with Howe. No drama.

The last line is key.

First order get Sandro and Tino signed up long term.

So Suds does his algorithm thingie and tells Wilson who we should buy. Wilson does the negotiating and signing shite. Eddie wins us the league.

That’s how it’s going to work?

After he sorts out all the contract malarkey, sell Willock to Forest for £60m, get Anderson back. Job’s a good’un.

How much was he involved in transfers which pissed Nuno off as well as appointing Ange?

Hopefully most of that can be blamed on Marinakis being bat shit fucking crazy.

Nuno fell out with Edu.
