St1pe
Just managed to force myself to watch the highlights since the match and I’m pissed off again. I don’t even know where you go from that with some of them players. Also no one can convince me that their penalty was one based on this set of rules. I said it at the time but we’ve had much clearer hand balls not given for bullshit reasons.

That being said, I felt Trips got away with one in the first five minutes when he pulled KLP back.

Sorry may not have been clear - what I’m saying is VAR did check but very likely got it wrong. By the definition of the law, if they felt it was a non-deliberate handball and the arm was where it was then they should have overturned the penalty award. Teslact
Someone earlier mentioned the sideways and backwards passes. There were so many times that a forward pass was on, but we'd take an extra touch and then it had gone and had to pass sideways/back. Didn't seem to matter if it was striding with the ball for 5 touches previously, we'd take a sixth, or if it should have been first time or anywhere in-between. Instincts have been take over by wishy washyness.

It used to be that it was just the defenders doing this, but now the midfielders are part of the problem, and Tonali is one of the worst despite him being the opposite in his first full season. What made it worse was Brentford were very quick to ping the ball quickly and release their forwards while we were still out of position.

The fact he got booked made me think I must've missed something. Just seen it - and aye, it was never a pen. No complaints about the result but that's bollocks. Benwell Lad
Where to start. We've become the opposite of what Sunderland are and what we were under Benitez and Bruce. I.E a team of limited players and resources who didn't go out to win games but made a very good fist of trying not to lose games and be difficult to beat. Now we have much better players, go out to win games but are often easy to beat. We're evolving and somehow we have to see that as a positive. It wasn't a shockingly bad performance, though it was very concerning. We could easily have won it and probably should have. I feel really sorry for the management team, they're crying out for time to breathe, regroup and work properly with the players but they just aren't going to get it. One team playing five games in five weeks and one team playing nine in five weeks was so evident on Saturday.

NUFC of last season would’ve blitzed them. Well they beat us 4-2 away last season. We beat them twice at home, but I was at the CC QF and although we scored early and won 3-1 I recall feeling nervy until the third one went in. Actually, maybe that was just me. Just checked we had 21 shots to their 10, 4 on target to their 3.

Just checked we had 21 shots to their 10, 4 on target to their 3. Two entirely different teams though. They had Mbeumo etc. we had a functional front 3 and weren’t absolutely fucked from playing every few days either. A traditional ‘Howe Newcastle’ with high energy, intensity and power would have killed that midfield imho. It’s all immaterial conjecture though, my wider point is, we were beaten by a very ordinary side who benefited from us being knackered and without momentum. Famous Nick
its a bit unreal to me how they play like this. they lost Frank the manager and Mbuemo, Norgaard, Wissa, Flekken 4x big starters. and yet they look more solid this season than last season.
