Qarabağ FK 1-6 Newcastle United [CLPO 1st Leg] (18/02/26) | post-match from pg. 53

Haven't caught up with the post match discussion, so maybe it's been done to death already, and I feel dirty for even saying it after such a big win, but the performance didn't really convince me that much?

2 penalties, 1 set piece, 1 gigantic individual mistake and 1 deflected shot. Considering how open and poorly they played, I was sort of hoping for more goals from open play? Based on how we played, I don't really see any indication that our performances in the league will improve unless Howe plans to use Dan Burn in a Pirlo role.

I agreed with them that our handball penalty shouldn’t happen, but it was nevertheless bizarre to hear McCoist urge the referee to not give a British team a penalty against European opposition. Doubt it would have been the same for Liverpool.

He did also mention that the PSG pens were both ridiculous vs us.  I prefer commentators to be as neutral as possible tbh - I used to hate when they used to go on about teams ‘representing’ England and implying that we’re all behind them.  Fuck that :)

The goals you've described come from how well we pressed these for the entirety of the first half. If their keeper didn't play a worldie it'd have been 8 or 10.  They beat Benfica in Portugal back in Sept and got results against other decent clubs.

Think it was probably because the game was done and no need for technical against the spirit of the game decisions at that point.

Saying that as a veteran of Ian St John's commentary when we played Dinamo Zagreb - was practically rooting for them, Liverpool c*nt.

Aye, they were poor last night but they haven't been hammered in all their GL games. Shipped 6 versus Liverpool and us in their last 2 however.

Yeah and we had a xg of 5.56, we rinsed them first half due to our positions and pace.  We did to Villa and Spurs as well tbf, we handled ourselves much better last 3 games than any other away games this season and deserved our wins.

Ya man, putting 6 past anyone in the CL is decent, especially travelling as far as we did.

We're more likely than Real Madrid because we're 6-1 up and they're 1-0 up. Once we both qualify for the round of 16 they'll be shorter odds again.

Real are shorter odds now, 11/1 is the best you can get.

That daft big Geordie or whatever he’s called, comments turned off too. Prick.

I used to think he made some valid points but recently his anti-Howe agenda has been terrible. I don’t know why he’s so in love with Woltemade and him being Germany’s starting striker, most of the games I’ve seen him for Germany were like his first few months for us. Not played to his strengths but occasionally snaffled a goal
