Menace Posted Thursday at 08:00 Share Posted Thursday at 08:00 It was predictable when the top scumbags kept rehashing the same story that they were waiting on someone else "Newcastle confident" About what? He had a release clause and would've made it obvious if he wanted to come or not. Surprise surprise none of the Real Madrid 1 year clause bullshit seems to apply now another party is interested It's all so boring
St1pe Posted Thursday at 08:02 Share Posted Thursday at 08:02 It’s not that I’m arsed about losing out on Spanish Anthony Gordon but more the optics of it on the back of last summer, future transfer targets and how it looks to players like Hall, Bruno etc. Losing out on players like this happens but the PR disaster we created for ourselves last summer with Isak then publicly failing to sign multiple replacements really looks bad. We need to move on someone fast after this set back to stop it spiralling. I’m really trying my best to not get too caught up in the play by play of this window but can already tell some of our fans are refreshing daily just lining themselves up for a meltdown. I don't want to hear about any players, about how we're confident of getting someone, about how we're monitoring whoever. Just don't bother, don't want to hear it anymore. I initially thought it was just to let things settle given the owners' unusual and protracted route to the Premier League but it just looks like they're happy with things as they are agree with this too. i think the problem tho is there arent enough 'aspirational' clubs like our teams to shout about it. the likes of brighton and brentford seem content to operate like they do, but if they want to aim higher, they need to go down the path both our clubs are, but then once they face those obstacles thats when there will be noise. til then, there isnt going to be enough voices to vocalise the discontent with the rules. Feels like it's us & Villa on our own. Cartel won't let us spend, the feeder clubs don't want us to spend because as long as we're restricted, they have the chance to compete with us. It's bull. Sidg Posted Thursday at 08:22 Share Posted Thursday at 08:22 What fucks me off, again, is the arrogance. We heard the same "confident" line over and over again. You can put that down to journos dragging out a story for clicks, sure, but we've tried to drive home a narrative and made a tit of ourselves. All this talk of "Looking at the underlying numbers, Newcastle feel like they've found the perfect replacement" feels like us trying to put ourselves over as the new overlords of data. Couldn't compete with the big lads in '25, can't cosplay as Brighton in '26. It's grim like.
Dokko Posted Thursday at 08:22 Share Posted Thursday at 08:22 (edited) Another fumble by the club, seemingly over a few million. Thry won't learn their lesson it seems. But least we sold early so we can get players in for pre season, or something like that. Edited Thursday at 08:23 by Dokko
ffs Posted Thursday at 08:22 Share Posted Thursday at 08:22 i guess the reality is that with 10 unconstrained spending clubs (cartel 6, psg, real, barca, bayern) and everyone else a strictly constrained spending club, and with each club able to have let's say 30 players on the books at any time (obviously very rough and there are feeder clubs etc), and with players making their decisions based on how much money they can make (just like any of us would) - that means we should assume the top 300 players in the world are most likely not going to be playing for us, or stay playing for us. so we are trying to become a top top club without being able to use the best few hundred players in the world. it's absolutely pernicious and demoralising. but, like, also accurate - if you look across out squad, do we have many players who went think of as in that top few hundred in the world? maybe some but not many. and fewer than we had two years ago - which is the real nut-kick. players + their agents have sussed that they should give no weight to "the project" in considering us, cos the project has been throttled. given this reality, i think we're doing the right things: (1) drive revenue much higher really fast, to close the gap. we're doing this, but as usual the uphill slope is greased against us. but - doing the right things (2) lots of resources to scouting, analytics and academy (and that doesn't suggest to me that pif has given up, the opposite if anything) but it is *fucking galling* to live this reality. always the fucking bridesmaids, at best. from selling Beardsley, Waddle + Gascoigne to "big clubs" right the way through ashley to here. the reason we adore KK is that for those incredible years it felt like we'd broken out. top table. although even things like Cole to man u felt like oooh are we really a bit second rate still tho? and yes, most other clubs have it worse. and just as yes, ugh, saudis, constant cognitive dissonance (surprisingly easy to handle tho). but like, this is our lifelong reality and even tho no it's not the worst thing that could happen to a person, we get a shit ton of meaning out of NUFC and i hate when my special thing gets cucked (sorry) and demeaned by a literal cartel which has completely captured football's administration. with no real prospect of that changing. aargh we weren't great for much of the 70s + 80s but when i look at those league tables, the level of *fluidity* among clubs is just so appealing. you could drop Cloughie anywhere, he'd do a few deals at motorways services in the midlands, create some magic and poof wow derby have won the league. just could not happen now, which feels like a big loss. one irony here is that so much of the cartelisation and regulatory capture is being driven by american owners, but that approach simply would not be allowed in american sports. all kinds of mechanisms are in place to ensure that all teams have a shot at winning over time. exciting sports for them at home, dull profitable impregnable grind for the clubs they own abroad. why should they care? just yapping here cos this isn't going to change. need some perspective. need the summer off football. but just cannot leave it alone.
