Is Ashley building these, or is he selling to somebody else? One things for sure, Ashley should not be anywhere near building tower blocks.

Sold by the club to his father in law. Apparently.

I'm not sure how these will benefit the city other than the council raking in extra business rates etc.

The buildings in those images don't particularly look eye catching.  Hastily erected Ashley tat towers.

Jobs, taxes, etc.

It wouldn’t be so bad if they were low rise buildings rather than shite idenikit high rises, something the club could have done itself without selling the land anyway. It’s the sale of the land that was the big joke.

Yeah the land is the most galling thing to nufc fans.

The club should have controlled this project. It should have leased the land to the developers on long term lease and provided height restrictions and created an environment where local businesses had to be hired for this project. In any case that is what a proper owner / MD of the football club would do. Selling the land ffs.

This is the level of thickness in the council.

This is the same council that said:

“But if someone is sitting back thinking that they are okay and can get into Newcastle in their car, it is actually going to be a lot harder because of the other restrictions we are bringing in.”

They're a joke.

This council are so shortsighted.  If the club is eventually sold to an ambitious owner the council have overlooked the likelihood that the new owner will simply build a new bigger stadium outside the city centre.  There must be numerous city centre businesses that will go under without the fans revenue.  I imagine there will be more than 1000 job losses in that event.

Definitive proof, for the ignorant, that the owner not only doesn't act in the best interests of the club but directly against them. No single move could have been more damaging to the clubs future.

What other club would sell off land by the stadium to have their attendance/expansion limited forever, when everybody knows the ground they currently have is already too small?

Can the protests groups hammer this. Maybe get a comment from the football authorities about how this isn't counter productive and clear spite/greed/pillaging of a club?

absolutely disgusted

clubs as good as dead now - potential was all we had, our only draw for would be buyers, frankly the only hope we had, without that you have to assume were stuck with Ashley, which is simply not acceptable and impossible to invest in. It was anyway but now knowing, KNOWING, the club can't grow even if it wanted to- which we all know it doesn't, what is the fkn point?

It's got fuck all to do with brown envelopes and everything to do with A: the fucker selling the land in the first place and B: a botched planning system which gives the private sector too much capacity to deliver poxy schemes.
