Don't see anything wrong with people being aggrieved by something being extortionately priced, especially football fans.

Well if it's your only option, sure. Like if the match tickets were £100 minimum each, we'd all have a right to be really annoyed.

But £6/pint somewhere, I dunno just don't pay it?

Well, it would be the only 'NUFC fanzone'...

Ultimately it depends on what sort of place it turns out to be. If it's something unique and not just another boozer then one would hope - being called a 'fanzone' - it would be accessible to all fans, in every sense; the offering, the environment, the price of things. If it's just a jumble of bars that just happens to be located in the shadow of SJP then yeah, whatever, just go to Rosie's instead I guess... but I object to the moniker in that case.

(I can't remember if Rosie's is especially expensive before anyone corrects me )

It's not. Here man, Yorkie, the NUFC fanzone is only for those that can afford it, right! Just buy the shirt for £80, buy your match ticket for £50 and enjoy yourself watching the traffic, kicking some stones pre-match.

Isn’t £5-£6 a pint normal now?

pretty much yeah. although there's still a few bampy places in town charging less. Garter, Clock, etc.

if anyone can recommend somewhere cheap that isn't rough as guts or a spoons, that'd be good actually

The Marlborough.

Not quite luxurious, unless you’re comparing to the Garter or Clock obviously, but still.

Find a cricket club nearby.

I drink at Felling pre game, tenner taxi to SJP as and when or a 5-10 min walk to Heworth metro.

There’s a couple of buses (the one I get from Consett and another from Langley Park) that drop off and pick up there on a match day, so that on top of the rest of the crowd makes it pretty busy.

I quite like it. They started opening upstairs last season with a big projection screen for any early/late matches. Even take card payment now!

Knock it all down and build something like the Mercedes-Benz Stadium in its place.

Apparently our owners were left impressed by their visit.

Fucking hell, I’ve had a look at their suites after reading that, and basically we need to totally rebuild SJP.

Just Google Mercedes Benz Arena Delta Suite, and click on the images and it gives you all the different images from all the suites in the stadium.

Rose & Crown is good friendly atmosphere and under £3 a pint for most things iirc. I’m a wine drinker so usually just buy a bottle for circa £12 but pretty sure John Smiths etc is £2.50-80ish.

Yeah I went there (Marlborough) when my dad and I had STs when I was a wee bairn.  Before and after the original got knocked down.

I think its an area where spectators that associate themselves with a particular team can congregate outside of their preferred team's home base of operations.

This is the kind of stuff that makes me believe that the feasibility study will end up showing that expanding SJP is not the preferred option for the club. Best case scenario is moving it up the hill a bit with a world class stadium in Leazes Park and turning SJP into a new city park leading up to the new stadium - hopefully incorporating the history of SJP into it (ie: keeping the pitch where it is or something similar).

what even is a fan zone? Club shop with a few bars and scran?

The Box Park one down Wembley was mint. If they can make something like that it would be amazing.
I heard recently they are looking at extending the Gallowgate but any extra capacity in there will be corporate so a lot of boxes. Then it would be the extending the east stand that would add more normal seats.

mind you I also heard about building a new one on Leazes but I tend to believe the extending SJP but I’m sure they are looking at both.
