Why would we imprint on the current ground if we don’t have to?

Seems like it would cause unnecessary disruption.

Guessing a combination of fear of the nimbies and fans voicing their opinions they don’t want to walk a few hundred yards further and maybe less red tape I’d imagine. I’m surprised by it TBH. Predicted it to be close to Leazes areas but not that close.

A new stadium is going to take up far more of Leazes Park than they've intimated there. 20,000 more seats, yet it's the same size as the current SJP. I'd say the new build will be double the size of the one shown there. The concourses and bogs, not to mention bars and food outlets need to be able to cope with 70,000 people. It'll be huge.

They say it will be higher. Wonder if the lower tier would be below ground level.

What do you mean? Please provide details of what supporting the club you've supported your whole life means to you and then others will tell you whether they're valid or not. What's the problem?

That emotions not sense surely?

Well you must have a reason for wanting the stadium to stay as it is.

I've said many times on here - I don't want to leave SJP, it's a proper football ground and I've yet to see a new build in this country that isn't completely naff in comparison.  I don't aspire to be Spurs.

I accept progress may be a bit slower taking this route.  I do not accept that we actually need to do this to compete.  I do not accept we should make a forever decision based on PSR rules which may end up being relatively short-lived.

I'm not looking to argue, just to understand your view.

Why's it a "proper football ground" ?

What I see is a hodge podge of a few different eras and none of it sits well together. The newest bits are 25 years old and the entire place was left to rot under Ashley

The location is iconic, but the buildings in their current form I've never been that arsed about. It's just not a very good stadium design for many reasons.

However I did have a lot of love for the mid 90's SJP in terms of how it looked and what that era meant to me.

There's no separation between the two really. There's sense in wanting to preserve the things that are a big part of your personal connection with the club and wanting to reject the things that corrode that connection.

Thanks for asking the question respectfully

One is a proper football ground and on a good day when the crowd is up for it, it can still give you the chills.  The other one has been made for a bit of football, a bit of NFL, a few gigs.

The new one looks like a spaceship/shopping mall hybrid and the atmosphere/experience is by all accounts very artificial despite us being told for a decade before it would be the one that bucked the trend.

I don't care about extra room in the concourse or micro breweries or other gimmicks, I'm there to see the match in a way that is somewhat comparable to how I always have.

Nobody's ever answered my question about a new ground that's been built in the UK that generates a decent atmosphere, I assume that's because it doesn't exist.

But no I have no sense for valuing what we'd be giving up and for this.

In regards to the Everton comments, I've walked past that new ground and lt looks very impressive TBF, the steep safe standing end is exactly what I'd want at Newcastle...

Is that the general consensus of fans whose clubs have shifted to new stadiums? That the experience/atmosphere is artificial? Do you reckon they would go back given a chance?

Not being funny but alot of that is nonsense from fans as well, St James park atmosphere is crap now so won't get any worse, same as it man utd build a new ground the atmosphere won't get any worse as it's already crap.

I guess it depends on the fanbase and their prior circumstances. Highbury and WHL were shitholes so they needed to move or redevelop. Arsenal are already exploring moving from the Emirates.

Tell me of an old ground that generates a decent atmosphere then?

Please don't say SJP [emoji38]

Obviously the footprint is approximated but still think that will end up being a nightmare at planning. Could see it taking forever and ultimately getting called into SoS if recommended for approval.

I also still don't see how you build it without some time spent elsewhere during construction, the amount of which would vary depending on final footprint.

Still think Castle Leazes would be far easier...

I'm pretty sure the people involved know what they're doing. You're just guessing with your ifs and buts.
