I know there's other benefits, corporate, concerts etc. but just from a pure capacity POV, 12-13,000 extra seats hardly seems worth the hassell of a new build. 70-75k would have been much more of a statement and felt far more significant.

I'd image a fair few clubs will be going over 65k in a few years, a bit like what happened when we originally increased to 52k.

Howay, there's a lot more to it than just an extra few seats...

People moaning about 65k :D Can never win the club.

If it’s 75k+, there’s going to be such a spread of fans, day trippiers, that the atmosphere would turn to shit. 65k allows the growth, keep supply and demand high and when club eventually becomes more successful, keeps the plastics to a minimum.

Exactly. No wonder we get called twisty badtsrds that are never happy.

65,000, 13,000 more people is absolutely fine.

If we go 70k + and then we have a bad season some "fans" will start finding excuses why they can't go and there'll be empty seats.

There will be day-trippers no matter what the capacity is. If it's only 65k that means that locals will still find it difficult to get in as a lot of the extra 13k seats will go corporate.

It boggles my mind that even up here, in our own back yard, there are so many people that don't realise the potential of this club. There must be 65k applying for games right now and we haven't even won anything yet. Are the club really going to be happy to see 10/15k people locked out of games if we become an elite club?

I'm sure they've studied data to know what capacity it needs to be.

I just hope they keep people together. I've got a great group of lads around me and would want to stay in the similar areas next to the same folk.

That's a description of why it's bad.

As someone else has said, it clearly indicates that we are going on Castle Leazes, which is where I have said we would go all along.

65k capacity is a bit of a downer, it’s 5k less than I would ideally want. Hopefully though it has room for expansion, and it shouldn’t really be leaving us behind others, which SJP is now doing to us.

I think 65k is spot on, if the data said we’d fill 70k every week that’s what they’d build.

I've always thought that 70k is the sweet spot and I still think so. It would also allow us to beat our highest ever attendance. That in itself would be a statement of where the club now was.

That said, if we could have a stadium with a roof like that Vegas one, that'd be sick.

He definitely has sources tbf like

Again I must reiterate my severe dislike for all of these amorphous blob, externally clad stadiums that look like they could just as easily be an airport terminal or train station from the outside, and are largely indistinct from one another. They will age terribly IMO.

All football stadiums should have four clearly definable sides.

Aye they’re absolutely rank. Looks like a Chinese rail terminal.

I’ve got no doubt we’d get 70k for a lot of games, but seen something a while back that showed what percentage of local population would need to attend match to fill 70k, think ours would have to be far in excess of anything in the country to achieve it.

I think 65k with possibility to extend if needed would be sensible approach, could destroy soul of club playing in a stadium to big with swathes of empty seats if they get it wrong.

If there is potential for expansion then I will take it. If we become a regular top 5 club though I could see them soon realising the error of not starting at 70k.

I want a 77k castle like theme, done out in sandstone. Nip up to Northumberland for ideas and inspiration

Nip down to Shields and mock up a few sandcastles....would be great if we could have something that looks externally if not structurally like the actual Castle

For a train station it doesn't really matter because you don't have any architectural cues to go from in terms of shape. A bit like why modern art galleries can often be statement art pieces in themselves - there is not really a form you need to follow other than whatever plot you have to work with (although there's an irony in many starchitect designed galleries being shit for curating inside because they've been designed outside-in).

A football stadium has such a clear cue for it's design. It's a four sided rectangle. That should be your form that you build around - and the stands are an embellishment of that base form for which you get character and distinctiveness. Ignoring that form and deliberately building a shape that ignores that, and masks the entire purpose of the facility, is just poor architectural design for me. Or it's a deliberate attempt to say to the world 'this is not a football stadium, it's an events facility'.

Nah, I can't see that making any difference at all, Man Utds plan relies on finding the money, the conservative Labour government, Rat face actually getting a plan that works and the Glazers.

Far to many road blocks for that to go smoothly

Agree....apparently Man U have barely got enough to buy a bowl of soup....so unless their on field stuff improves rapidly, it'll probably take a blind, insane thick skinned billionaire for them to build it. Wait, they already got that....and it seems he's tighter than Mike Ashley's belt after a night on the curry and pints.

All posturing at the minute and will likely be years before any actual progress

Shhh man, people like to be "underwhelmed"

Great news in terms of the intentions of our owners.

Why use data to ensure we get the right capacity to both satisfy demand but also stop any empty seats when we can have a soopa doopa 100,000 seater so we can brag about how big our stadium is
