Wallsendmag
Just seen Birmingham have announced plans (and released images) to build a new 62,000 stadium. Pretty sure their owners arrived a couple of years after ours as well and have just came out of League One so fair play to them.

Lucky
For me, large scale investment was always going to be the litmus test of PIF's long term plans. They have the means to make a decision any time they want but it's not looking like they want to, why that is I'm sure we'll find out over the next few seasons. Once we hit a certain value. That's great but literally every single person involved in that could be 100% on board - they'd still need a sign-off from PIF for any of it to actually happen. By the sounds of things they're in absolutely no rush to do that.
The Prophet
Wasn't the last pees briefing that the training ground announcement would probably come first now?

Gottlob
I don't know if it has been discussed and it's probably incidental when it comes to us and our stadium plans, but there was an article in the New York Times yesterday saying that due to numerous missteps PIF is low on cash and rethinking the way it does business. We're going to get left behind even a Championship club now. PIF are lucky that they can delay whatver decision they make about the stadium because we have fans who are split about moving or staying. I don't know whether Birmingham fans arw the same but I'd imagine the majority would probably like to move into a new 62000 chimney stadium rather than stay at St Andrews

Id be shocked if their end game stadium looks anything like what they've released. Also St Andrews can be flattened and no one will care, it's not the same as leaving SJP behind for a new stadium. Our project will come but its a bit more nuanced. Edited November 21, 2025 by Decky

St Andrews has been Birminghams ground for 120 years! There's no reason why Birmingham fans wouldn't think of it in the same way as we do with SJP. The biggest difference is the availablity of prime regeneration land less than a kilometre from St Andrews, which is Council owned and allocated in their local plan, specifically not for housing (unlike say Forth Yard in Newcastle). It's right there waiting for a project like this to come along. And, as you say, who knows how viable their vision actually is.

I suppose they'll look at Birmingham being the 2nd biggest City in the UK so they'll think the people are out there and it's just a case of tempting them in. If you look at Sunderland as an example. Their average gate in the 10 years leading up to building their new 42k stadium was around 16,000 so on the face of it building a 40k+ stadium seemed ridiculous but they hooked people in through novelty factor, extremely cheap (and in many cases free tickets to schools/colleges/Unis etc) and pretty much built themselves a brand new fanbase due to a new stadium and more than doubled their crowds. Assume Birmingham will go down the same route.
Stifler
Honestly, I prefer the top image better and I’d be happy with something like that as our stadium.
