There's also been quite a significant move towards maximising non-matchday use aswell with new stadia and facilities, I read something recently about how Fulham's new roof terrace thing was almost built with non-football use in mind first to bring the money in year-round, and they also then have the space to sell tickets to the football for. All linked to a change in corporate/hospitality buying habits and trends supposedly, so clubs are less building "facilities for corporate guests at the football" but "event spaces that we can also sell to corporate guests who want to go to the football." All very wanky but where the coin is Very surprised not to see West Ham on that list, maybe those empty seats do have an impact after all.

They're not just outside it either, think they're down at about £40m - £45m per season. Mind I'd not spend anything there either if my only option was Brewdog for a pint, I'd rather the shite options at our place!
Anderson
They only had 1 home cup game too, and that was 2nd round of Carabao, which will impact it. We had 6, so a quarter more home games than them. Obviously CL this year will give us a significant bump, as it will have done Villa in the above table.

West Ham haven’t, Spurs haven’t, Arsenal only just looking as good as they were pre Emirates, Everton still early days. Man City isn’t really a valid example imo. Leaves Brentford and Brighton but they are mid table clubs at best now. I can name you 2 clubs who would very likely not be anywhere near where they are now if they hadn’t moved to a new stadium, and I don’t even have to leave the North East. Neither of the ones I'm thinking of have really changed since moving. One has just had (broken up by one season in the PL) and are currently having their second and third longest spells outside the top division (previously 1954-1974) and the other has just has their longest spell outside the top divsion and longest spell in the third tier. If they make more money its relative to everybody else also making more money so they're basically where they are (as we know until recently one of them has the same match day revenue as West Brom and Norwich for example) Edited February 17 by Wolfcastle

If they stayed at their old grounds then they would have slipped through the leagues. Neither of those stadiums would have been fit for purpose, neither of them would allow for either club to gain commercial income, and they wouldn’t allow for larger capacities. Financially both of those clubs would have been fucked as soon as they were relegated in the 90’s. They’d both be League Two clubs at best.

Yep - and I don’t remember any collective whining or grumbling from Mackems or Smoggies re leaving Joker or Ayresome. And Roker was comfortably as historic as SJP, and arguably more linked to Sunderland’s identity (they were the Rokerites until they needed a new nickname due to the move, and asked Soccer AM to vote on what it should be …)
madras
You can only realistically compare Roker and Ayresome to a St James'pre 93.

There weren’t many grumbles on Tyneside either re the prospect of a move away from SJP. The sentimental element seems to be a very, very recent thing. The question was name a club that have benefitted from a move to a new stadium. Like I said, you can name 2 clubs in the North East. You can also add on Arsenal, Man City etc without even going down the leagues, and all pre AT&T stadiums which changed what a stadium should be and have. Wallsendmag
I'd put a good case forward for Brighton and Brentford as well.

Its comparing apples with dustbin lorries though. For your examples you can use Liverpool at the opposite end. Fwiw I'm not against moving but it would have to be the perfect move. It’s an excellent ground. But ‘best atmosphere’ is something different.
