I personally think that the strategy they are most happy with is keep supply low and have people paying top dollar for what is currently available. Expect more large price increases next season.

Would seem that way. From the data the released a few weeks back, my best estimates are that our lowest attendance this season would have been 67-68,000 With us usually getting in to the 70,000 plus range. This is Ofcourse with,  restrictions for example only being able to purchase single tickets with a membership.

If what the CEO said about SJP being able to get 10 to 15k more seats I think I'd favour staying and doing that tbh. Modernise the whole place up as well.

Would be the dream for me. Do accept that SJP needs to be modernised like, done a stadium tour on Sunday gone and it’s filthy in places and decrepit as well.

How come the East Stand regulars were in their seats during your tour ?

Hope pissing on everyone’s chips (as he loves to do…).

Does seem odd though. I’m not really sure what he’s saying Hopkinson meant otherwise?

Think he was just talking and signaling this is still the agenda. He won't be anywhere near the decision like

But Hope is saying it’s an impossibility for any expansion to be more than 10k. Which, if true, Hopkinson would know. So what did he actually mean?

Tbf, maybe I need to re-listen to that bit again.

From what I remember he said that we can add 10k more to SJP. He did mention other numbers but I don’t recall him saying that when discussing a new stadium. The only thing I recall him saying about a new stadium is that the location needs to be spot on.

If it is a 65-68k seater then that’s fair enough imo, as long as there is the ability to extend should it be needed. You’d think if it was built on Leazes Park then it wouldn’t be an issue.

So if SJP could go to 63k or so would it be worth demolishing it for an extra 5 thousand seats somewhere else?

I honestly don't think it means anything. It won't be his decision he's just doing a media round.

I wouldn't over analyse it because it seems like this is another can which has been kicked.

Worth it just to get rid of the East Stand.

If he's not anywhere near the decision and has no means to pull the right strings to get the green light then a new stadium is never happening.

It's hard to say at this stage, I think if we do the training ground the stadium gets done. If that goes to the long grass then all bets are off imo.

These issues are ownership defining.

For sure, I'm just saying if it's purely down to sitting around and waiting on PIF I think we'll all sooner be dead. My entire hope now for these things moving forward is based on the narrative around Hopkinson that he is a person who doesn't sit still and makes things happen.

I hear you and couldn't agree more. I'm excited about Hopinkson he seems like he does have ambition but I'm not sure he will have the clout to make them move faster.

Every time I read about PIF they are scaling back another overly ambitious project

Honestly i don’t think even if a training ground gets done, that they are in for the long haul.

Getting to be one of the top clubs in the world is going to take a long time, more so than I believe the Saudis were expecting thanks to the rules and the brick wall’s we keep hitting.

My worry is they might say ‘fuck it’ this is all too hard, sell us for a tidy profit and take the easy pickings like Man U which obviously have no barriers.

Until that new stadium is announced, then personally i know they’re committed because that’s the turning point of commitment. Invest billions in that or a new takeover venture with less hurdles.

A training ground, that’s chump change to them.

I think we’ll get the official training ground announcement by end of April at very latest.

Very confident it’s a new stadium on Leazes Park but it does overlap current footprint so not sure how that will work in practice during build.

Hope is basically confirming it’s a new stadium by desired capacity, SJP can’t be redeveloped to much over 60k, not to mention huge increase in corporate/sponsorship revenues with new stadium.

I get the feeling it’s just financials delaying the go-ahead now.

It doesn’t take five years to decide whether or not you’re building a stadium, let alone actually building the fucking thing

Apparently it does if you’re Profligate Incompetent Fools and spunked a load of your oil wealth on pipe dreams and magic beans.

Not so sure about that like, it's a major undertaking with the restrictions around our site. And you wouldn't want to announce something unless you were sure it could be done. So that means a significant part of the design and planning needs to be done.

They also didn't sit down and start working on a stadium on day one so it's probably actually been more like 2 or 2.5 years.
