Can have more adverts with a big screen

And they can be used to add to the razzmatazz

And nothing beats the edge of seat anticipation of being in the stadium when there a 7 minute microanalysis VAR review raking place on 4 x jumbotrons

Sweepstake on where they’ll put these jumbotrons ?

Keep in mind that 90% of the East Stand will have glaucoma and can’t be exposed to artificial bright lights

I don’t like being able to see the screen, I don’t want to see any replays til I watch the highlights later at home - part of the fun. I like having the timers too, all I want.

The screen is pointless for VAR too, you can always tell from the ref before the screen.

Spot on. There’s a bloke near me who always checks Var decisions on his phone and in effect ‘spoils’ it for the rest of it. And even that irritates me.

I reckon one on the glass of the Milburn stand like the one in the Leazes. Possibly one on the Gallowgate roof like the one at the SOS?

As someone else mentioned I have no idea what they do for the people at the back of the Gallowgate. Unless they just put a smaller screen on the Gallowgate roof like they do at Brentford

Why is it always the irritating people who get perfect signal in the ground ?

  • The lads who take calls when the match is on then have a pointless chinwag with whoever it was who called that they couldn't possibly ignore
  • The middle aged woman looking at her friends Xmas trees on Facebook
  • The lad who has to shout down the phone on 3 x separate calls because his lass has lost her car keys and wants him to help her find them
  • The countless lads who have to place in-game bets and then tell everyone what bets they've placed and how much they'll win if the bets come off, which they rarely do

I wouldn't take a call at the match, wouldn't scroll at the match, wouldn't place bets at the match, yet I can't get any signal at all between the outskirts of Jesmond and SJP

Hopefully one is dedicated to 'You can hire space at St James' Park for meetings you know?', because it feels like reminding folk every 30 seconds just isn't enough.

Sounds like lipstick on a pig for SJP rather than the new stadium according to Mark Douglas. Apparently did a sit down with Slopkinson and Wilson.

No surprise. We are headed down the Ashley+ route now they have this guy at the helm.

I doubt anyone is like, but I really wouldn't underestimate how much everything in the middle east is affecting everything at the moment. Think I said this back when Ambramovic was forced to sell Chelsea, but it doesn't take much geopolitical instability to affect things massively at ground level.

I've said this before in this thread but its worth repeating. To PIF we are an investment with an element of sports washing. Spending £1.5bn on a capital project in the poorest region in England may not meet the investment threshold or risk/reward metrics for PIF. They'll have loads of different investments all competing from a limited fund or pool of money. They may have other better opportunities to invest in. Plus we now have the ME conflict and PSR/SCR which is here to stay. Therefore, tarting up SJP may make sense from their perspective.

I can't find what the club have actually said, isn't it just some cosmetic improvements as you might expect for a stadium that is old and we might be leaving soon?

Buying bigger TVs doesn't mean they're not working on a new stadium plan.

So this is why I couldn’t find a link, because it’s news about upgrades for now to SJP that we knew about 2 weeks ago?

It seems like the club will be borrowing the money for the new stadium/upgrades.

In that case it’s not a case of them not having the money to just spend.

Additionally, it’s well known that the TV rights are undervalued, largely because of the 3pm blackout, but for other reasons as well. Once that situation has cleared, the value of Premier League teams will sky rocket. This is why Chelsea’s owners are throwing money at them hoping it sticks. It’s why in recent years the owners of Liverpool, Man Utd, Arsenal, and Spurs have resisted takeover attempts.

St James’ Park is home for ‘years to come’

There’s no getting away from it, the brakes have been pumped on Newcastle’s big stadium plan.

A year ago the direction of travel appeared to be towards a new-build arena in nearby Leazes Park, but Newcastle are now planning for life at their current home for a while yet.

“Recognising that we are going to be at St James’ Park in pretty much its current format for years to come is important,” Hopkinson said on Monday. He admitted that important decisions had been parked while they awaited PIF’s final decision and that sense of stasis had to end.

Intriguingly, he said that “tweaks and improvements” to St James’ Park were back on the table while the club work through the complexities of a bigger decision that will take “years and years” either way.

I don't think the middle east stuff affects us in terms of the direction and how the club is financed etc.  We are an investment for the Saudi's and self sufficient.

The issue is what it'll do for the borrowing requirements for a new stadium etc.

We're not getting a new stadium it's pretty obvious at this point.  I'd be surprised if we even got a new training ground.

Saw a little snippet the other day about this saying the purchase of the land is in the process of going through. No idea if it's just someone trying to put 2+2 together or it's actually happening.
