St James' Park: club plans to expand existing site further to completion of feasibility study (Edwards)

The current big screen is pretty disgraceful for a major stadium. They definitely need to include two new larger screens in the redevelopment. Is it Schalke where the screens are suspended on top of the middle of the pitch?

Yes, but it has trusses across. It's also kind of a pathetic screen.

The Rugby League Magic Weekend has been moved to Elland Road next year, August 17th and 18th, due to St James Park non-availability - obviously it’s during the football season but that’s the same for Leeds United, and the Grand final is usually in October at Old Trafford so I don’t believe it’s a case of being unavailable just because it’s during the season - it’s also been there before during the season.

could we be expecting some news on expansion soon?

Id say less than zero chance of it happening within 9 months unless you think the club would just remove/relocate STH's from games this season without warning to build it

It could start after this season ends?

They haven't even completed their feasibility studies yet nevermind deciding on an option, putting together a detailed design and planning application to be submitted, and then it being fully considered publicly for approval. There's no chance whatsoever of anything commencing in under 12 months.

They haven't even started on the temporary fan park yet.

So you have the same issue of STH's being moved or worse. Thats ignoring the lengthy planning and application stages needed prior to it. Plus the new fan park which will prevent anything built there.

The club is going to send out a survey to us with a load of "what if" type questions, based on ground move, redevelopment of St James' and so on

Eales said that "currently" the club is nowhere near any decision but all options are available

Heard from a good source they've approached the council, Historic England and the Secretary of State for DCMS to discuss the moving of Leazes Terrace brick by brick to an as yet unkown location elsewhere in the region.
