Wullie
I fucking hate Willie McKay and I don't even know what he looks like. Odious greedy slimeball, I'd love us to stop dealing with him but he seems to control every fucking footballer from here to Africa.
garth
This situation is embarrassing. For Barton, certainly. Could sign for Newcastle to tomorrow but apparently he cares more about money. For Newcastle, not for me to say. For City, not for me. Not embarrased over this one bit. I'd be embarrased if were willing to pay the odious little spacker. In fact I'll go as far to say that if City agree to pay him this, without being forced into it by a court of law, they'll never see another penny of my money again. I don't want you to think you're alone on this forum who think City have every reason to stick to their guns on this one... The actual clause itself implies a transfer request should a bid of 5.5m be lodged. It's like a transfer request written into the contract A contract law specialist would make a better case than me, but I would imagine a decent barrister would make it not so cut and dried as some posters here think. I'm sure I'm not the only Toon fan with a bad taste in his mouth after these "loyalty payments" revalations... Yes I agree with this also, the greedy little cunt doesn't deserve a penny, considering what he'll get from Newcastle, worst thing was to sign this piece of garbage we could much better IMO. I'm sure I'm not the only Toon fan with a bad taste in his mouth after these "loyalty payments" revalations... There was discussion on this topic on a Spurs forum and the general consensus amongst the legally minded was that City may well have the stronger argument. Also, a high percentage of posters were with City and their standpoint. Maybe Spurs fans have seen it a bit more with agents wanting to break the salary structure and in the end, we've just let the player go, not quite the same scenario, but agents wanting the best of both worlds is nothing new. Hope it goes to court, City win and Barton cops a huge legal bill. Greed is poisoning football.

Baggio
We've been through all this before with Ferguson and Jenas, both players wanted to leave but because they didn't put it in writing they were entitled to a pay off.
Dr Spectrum
PFA search for Barton resolution 12/ 6/2007 THE Professional Footballers' Association are desperately trying to mediate in the increasingly difficult transfer of Joey Barton to Newcastle. And the fear is that the deal could turn out to be the most difficult of the summer so far as Manchester City dig their heels in and refuse to pay the midfielder £300,000 he believes he should get from a 'signing on fee' clause in his contract at Eastlands. PFA official Mick McGuire is handling the mediation after Barton and his agent Willie McKay asked for the assistance of the players' union. McGuire said: "We are looking for an amicable conclusion to this. "I have spoken to Joey, his agent and Alistair Mackintosh (City's chief executive) and I also intend talking to Sam Allardyce at Newcastle. "But this is not an easy situation because City believe Joey is not entitled to the money, because it was the player who triggered to move by activating the part of his contract that says he can talk to other clubs who bid £5.5million. "City believe that by doing that, he effectively asked for a transfer." Barton agreed to the move to St James' Park last week, but so far the deal has not been concluded because City are refusing to budge on the £300,000 Barton believes he is entitled to. McGuire said: "This is a signing-on fee, not a loyalty bonus. This does not seem to be black and white, certainly as far as City are concerned. "At the moment we (PFA) are looking for a way forward that will be acceptable to everyone." However, City do not seem to be in any hurry to sanction the deal - with Barton now on holiday in Dubai - and could hold out until the player gives up his claim on the cash. And they are particularly annoyed with the player taking this stance having stood by him on several occasions in recent years after off-field problems. To me it seems pretty obvious who's in the right over this - the PFA will normally argue black is white for one of their members. Mick Maguire arguing City's case rather than Barton's says a lot IMO. Guest Toon83
Just to let all the Barton haters know, City won't release his papers to us until they have this sorted out so its not Barton's fault. Manchester City have to pay all severance pay etc before they can release the players papers in order for him to sign his contract with newcastle united

Mind I'm in no doubt that prick of an agent of his is behind it all, after all wasn't he the one who negotiated a release clause into his contract. Still, they are both pricks and this is typical of players and agents today.
Dragon55544
Greedy b******. God I hope we don't sign the cock. Greedy? Why because he's asking for what he feels is rightfully his? They also put the clause in therefore they also are held accountable for the trouble being caused right now. So easy to jump on Barton as of his bad boy image, but the club he is leaving is thick as mince, and deserve to be taken to court over this. Put Joey Barton aside, and the club are the ones to blame for this mess, just because its WM & JB are any toon fans sticking up for citeh, if it were Parker (professional) & another agent we'd all be going nuts. Guest Knightrider
If it was Kieron Dyer or Carr or whoever doing the same to us, holding up a move and trying to get extra money even if they were in the right, there would be hell on, in fact there is hell on over Owen. Aye it is Man City's fault for being daft enough to insert a clause but howay, something has to give here. If Barton had any respect or compassion for Man City, even just the fans, he'd write it off. Others have in the past. KK went unpaid for a few months here at NUFC when he took over as manager and even paid Terry Mac's wages and said if we go down, I won't want anything. Gullit for all the stick he gets waved his right to compensation. Bad karma for us either way.

He should waver it, and in a couple of articles its been reported he will waver it, but its blew up again, don't know the reason or if those articles were right, maybe he feels if he drops that, the club and Dabo should drop the assault charges. He should drop it, or ask for the money be donated to charity, something like the 'shit footballers who are battered by their team mates foundation'
BONTEMPI
I for one would drop the deal! He's not fantastic by any stretch of the imagination! Skeletor
Considering he's set to make a supposed £12m out of us in wages over 5 years, what is 300k to him really? Silly boy.

oldtype
As usual, whatever Willie Mckay touches turns into steaming piles of dogshit. tbh, if Barton had any brains at all he'd recognize the PR nightmare that this is causing him and give up on the 300k. Do you really think he is going to give a shit about what the papers say about him, when his bank account could bloat even more so, with £300,000 being added to it? Hardly like this little saga compares to the shit he's been through with the press and various supporters in earlier phases of his career.
brummie
If I were Joey Barton, I'd be thinking the following: - I've got the chance of a quick move to another big club. - I smacked fuck out of a team mate, something I don't really want to be drawing any more attention to. - I've got the chance to wipe the slate clean and make a fresh start. - I've done well out of the fact that my sell-on clause is relatively low, meaning more money for me. - I've got a new set of fans who are going to need a little convincing, given my somewhat chequered past. - I've done well out of being at Man City. They stood by me during all my previous problems. I pushed them into a corner. They (esp the fans) deserve better than this. Yes, 300k is a lot of money, but in the long run, he'll make a lot more than that out of not taking the piss, and making his departure from Man City as painless as possible. I was in the "fuck it, so what if he's a cunt, he's a good player" camp, but this is making me reassess that situation, as i suspect are a lot of people

TRon
Looks like Joey might still end up in the slammer once the dust is settled. His past misdemeanours will be held in a new light if he insists on being a bonehead about this one.
