We Have Shaken Hands Like Grown Men Should

More news today on the aftermath of Jose Enrique’s tweet criticizing  Newcastle owner, Mike Ashley, on Sunday.

The open training season – photo taken by Newcastle supporter Kevin Lively

And it turns out Jose has been fined two weeks wages, and since the estimate was £100K, that means the lad is getting £50K/week on Tyneside,  and has been for the last four years, since he arrived from Villareal when Sam Allardyce was the new manager of Newcastle.

And reading between the lines, it looks like Jose was offered close to this same exact terms over a new five year extension of his contract, and that fits with what Jose says was not really an increase at all.

But hey, ten years at £50K/week is not too bad for any player, surely.

But it seems the Newcastle manager had a good one-on-one talk with Jose, probably at the request of  a furious owner, Mike Ashley, and things have been sorted out, and it’s over, as the great Roy Orbison used to sing back in the 1960s.

And surprisingly enough Jose Enrique was all smiles at the open training session at the Crew Stadium yesterday, where he was seen to smile and pose for pictures with Newcastle fans in the continuous sunshine.

Pardew again talked about Jose:

“He will play at Columbus and he trained well.” “We have shaken hands and put it all to bed like grown men should. “Now and again we all make mistakes.”

“He might not think it is a mistake, but I know I do. That is all in the past now.”   “It is not good to put things on Twitter when you are not in a good place emotionally – it does not reflect well on people.”

“It is an instant diary. At school you used to write diaries and you would look back and think ‘what was I writing!”  “A lot of people will look back at some things they write and be embarrassed.”

“They have to learn the media are quickly alerted to these sites and it immediately turns into news and used very negatively.”

That’s certainly how it should be, and there is news today that Arsenal and Liverpool will now fight it out for the player.

And the news is that Jose should be transferred before the weekend, but somehow we just don’t that will happen.

Well handled by Pardew

If Liverpool/Arsenal aren't completely sold on him, these twitter rants won't exactly convince them to buy. Hopefully it will put them off.

He's too expensive for Liverpool,  presumably they mean wages wise.  Not going there.

Pretty unambitious lot if that's the case. :shifty:

The waiting game from Dalglish according to this from the Mirror.

Always a likely scenario I guess.....

Dalglish waiting for right moment to make cut-price Enrique offer

Kenny Dalglish is prepared to play a waiting game to land Jose Enrique.

The Liverpool boss has been put off by Newcastle’s vastly inflated valuation of the Spanish international left back, and has resisted the temptation to make a formal offer.

But Enrique has just a year left on his current deal, and has indicated he has absolutely no intention of renewing after the club failed to make him an improved offer.

Newcastle have already been looking for a replacement for the Spaniard, and have intensified their efforts after Enrique criticised their lack of ambition this week.

The player was fined for that outburst, and Magpies boss Alan Pardew has drawn up a shortlist of potential successors, with Manchester City misfit Wayne Bridge a top target.

All that has persuaded Dalglish to wait for the right moment to make a reduced offer for the player, whom he values at around £5million.

Newcastle won’t want to go into the new season with the risk of losing him on a free, which would happen should they fail to sell him before the summer transfer deadline expires.

And that should see them reduce their asking price significantly, as the end of the transfer window looms at the end of August. Liverpool are prepared to wait that long.

Enrique himself is desperate to move, and would welcome the chance to go to Anfield, given the club’s obvious ambition.

NEWCASTLE HIT BACK AT JOSE ENRIQUE’S JIBE

Wednesday July 27,2011

By Niall Hickman

NEWCASTLE are furious about Jose Enrique’s Twitter outburst in which he accused the club of selling big-name players and not offering him an improved contract.

The board say Jose Enrique, whose deal runs out in May, has been offered a £50,000-a-week, five-year contract. Newcastle are also adamant there has been no firm interest in the Spanish full-back, either from rival Premier League clubs or from Spain’s La Liga.

A senior Newcastle source said: “The claims Jose Enrique has made are wrong. We have made him a substantial offer and there have been no offers for him from other clubs, either domestically or from abroad.

“What he has said on Twitter is simply not true. The board are furious over this. The club wants to keep its best players, but like all clubs, the bills have to be paid.”

Newcastle owner Mike Ashley and his managing director Derek Llambias are convinced Enrique will now leave St James’ Park this summer, but both are angry that the player has used his social networking account to claim he has not been offered a new deal.

He had a much better second half than first. Struggled going forward and passing in the first, looked really unimpressive. At one point in the second he dribbled the ball directly out of bounds, but he made some nice attacking moves and was good defensively the whole game.
