José Enrique

IMO we're dreaming if we think we're going to get a lot more than that for him at this stage.  We all know he's worth more than that but even the big clubs will hang around for a bit if they can get a £10m+ player for nowt in a year's time and they have enough in the squad to tide things over.

If we can get around £7m for him in the end then we've done quite well imo.

Do you think we can buy another left back as good as Enrique for 7m before the transfer window closes ? Who's even to say that Ashley  will reinvest the 7m in another left back like the 35m that has been reinvested in playing staff...

I don't think we can buy a player as good for that price, no.  I know he's not Mr Popular around here but Liverpool were forced to sell Michael Owen to Real Madrid for £8m all those years ago, which was half of his market value as was proven 12 months later.  That's just one example.

We paid well over the odds for Owen. No other club was stupid enough to offer anything like it.

He was worth a lot more than £8m when Liverpool sold him though, much of the reason £17m was such a rip off when we bought him was that he'd shown himself to be only worthy of a place on the a bench for much of the time at a top, top side.

My point was that you can knock a good few million off someone's price if they're 12 months from the end of their contract and I'd be surprised if you disagreed with that.

Who cares about the fee.. Whatever someone is willing to pay for Enrique is not going to be spent to improve the squad anyway so would rather keep him for this season and let him leave on a free when his contract runs out.

agreed, leaving liverpool 8m was considered a steal, leaving real 16m was considered over the odds

i disagree. the higher the fee, the more money ashley will have recouped, and hopefully the faster the knacker will sell up.

Get a grip man..Of course he'll improve the squad..He's amply proven that already. That's why we need the money for Enrique, so we're able to buy a PROPER replacement. Besides, if he wants to sell the club, he'll get much more for it if the squad is full of prospects and is fighting in the upper tier of the table. From this perspective, he got every incentive to plow the money he earns from player sales back into the team.

The notion of Ashley haggling over his fee is laughable. We'll accept a derisory offer of about 5 or 6 million, send him on his way and replace him on the cheap IF we're lucky. More likely is to stick young Ferguson back in there and keep the cash in the bank.

We know how he works.

Ashley's regime has generally been pretty good at getting decent fee's to be fair.

In some cases they've done really well.

Enrique's contract situation is the decisive thing here though. He won't let him go for nothing next summer and will take whatever is offered for him imo.

So a French international in Cabaye isn't a reinforcement? He's cheaper and better than Nolan..BA is better than Shola, and his stats are impressive. .MA managed to haggle over Nolan, Carroll and Routledge's fees. We  got more than they're worth imo. You're so fucking negative that you refuse to see the positive aspects that actually are happening.
