  1. Great first half performance. Obertan, Cabaye, Ben Arfa, Krul, Coloccini, Steven Taylor, Ryan Taylor and Guthrie all been very good and everyone else OK. Rooney should be off (and in a police station) for his hideous assault on Coloccini.
  2. I met my girlfriend on 20th August on the night we beat the Mackems, and we were unbeaten in the league since. We went through a rocky patch during the Man City game, but we are back together now and stronger than ever so Newcastle will not lose today.
  3. For those who missed it yesterday: A through ball is played to Aguero who is 40 yards away from goal and 15 yards offside. Everyone in the ground knows it is offside. Aguero hasn't touched the ball, he hesitates at first but continues because he hasn't heard the whistle and chases the ball. Our defence had stopped assuming offside and Aguero is now a long way ahead. Yaya Toure runs through our defence and towards the ball and nearly catches Aguero. He is onside. Aguero touches the ball, linesman sticks up his flag. If he had noticed Toure and left it for him it would have been the two of them versus Krul. Completely farcical.

    Ryan Taylor

Not going to join the Taylor bandwaggon bashing over today. If your team only has 25% possession then defenders are going to buckle and make mistakes eventually. Those mistakes are just a testament to Man City to be honest.
  5. Lack of options? No matter who we put there, it's going to be a case of square peg/round hole since we have no natural right wingers fit. Pardew will look for maximum defensive-protection, so it will be between Santon, Guthrie and Gosling I think - can't see Ben Arfa getting a look in as he doesn't have the work-rate to play that role. Out of the three, Santon would be the most sensible option since he's a natural wide player. Fair enough, just wondered if it was something Pardew had hinted at. I'll be very surprised if it is Santon tbh. Also Santon started his career at right wing and is apparently competent and has played in all wide positions.

    St James' Park

That is for 10 years. He thinks they would do it for 2-3 years at 20-25 a season (man city more expensive because of being the better team) until HERS shut up. For the interest of hoodwinkling everyone it would be different abu dhabi companies for each team. Probably bullshit though. Continuing from the fair play theories, could someone not wanting to play by these rules sponsor us first, then buy us a year later and HERS be unable to dispute the deal.

Apparently UEFA are not going to allow Man City's income to include their new sponsorship deal because it is clearly money coming from the owners and excessive when considering the market rates. My Man City housemate reckons they are looking to sponsor a few other clubs to set the new market rate so UEFA can not dispute the market price.
  8. We need a statue of Mr and Mrs Ameobi making love.
  9. The legislation has been changed now. If you get so many responses, parliament has to discuss it if it has viable legislation. I don't think this one would work. A good petition should be created with the advice and endorsement of local MPs and I think the only thing that could be achieved that causes any effect on Mike Ashley is to force him to talk on live tv to one of the select commitees.

    Hatem Ben Arfa

Any need for that kind of post? People with that condition are people you know, and chances are that someone with this condition or a family member of someone with the condition is a member of the forum and could even read that post, and be upset as you have just branded someone with that condition an idiot.

    Hatem Ben Arfa

That is a sensible point not to be mocked to be honest. Players that miss pre-season are often off colour for a long time, and many players having a good season often credit it to a good preseason. As for Ben Arfa, he just doesn't look ready to challenge for a first team place yet, but he did do his job to perfection on Saturday and that bodes well for the future. But on the other hand other players shouldn't be ripped out of the team just to fit him. He needs to take his chances when they come.

    Yohan Cabaye retires

Well his wife does have a scots name so maybe there is a link there. Also there is the fact that Scotland is actually a nice place. Fiona is an Italian name.
  13. Pardew had explained that this deal is going to take a long time. Colo uses an agent who does not speak English and is based in Argentina, and this agent is difficult to reach and deal with so they are having to hire Spanish speakers to write up and negotiate the contract, and make regular trips to Argentina.
  14. I just got a text saying Forster, Simpson, and both Taylors all called up to England squad? Any truth in this?

    Yohan Cabaye retires

Pardew confirmed to BBC that he was injured after 20 minutes which explains why he played so poor from then on. Though if he stayed on for another 20 mins he will probably be OK after the international break.
  16. Krul - Decent keeping - 7 Simpson - OK - 6 Taylor - Solid - 7 Coloccini - Much needed composure - 7.5 Taylor - Did well against full back. Top notch goal - 7 Marveaux - Not a RW - 5 Cabaye - Injured for 20 mins - 5 Guthrie - Impressive - 8 Jonas - Worst game in 2011 - 5 Best - Led the line well - 6 Ba - Led the line slightly better than Best - 6.5 Gosling - No real impression - 5 Sammy - Some good, some not good, but did a job - 6 Ben Arfa - Exactly what we needed in possession towards the end - 6 Collectively we won't play that badly and win for a long long time. For what it is worth we were good in the first 20 mins before Cabaye got injured.

Timewasted well. Best game for us this season.
  19. Cabaye poor? It must be me, but felt we won every ball in midfield. Thought they got the better when cutting inside from the flanks rather then through the middle. He was struggling for 20 minutes before he came off and it caused us problems. Not his fault, but having him on the pitch has caused us problems.

    Yohan Cabaye retires

Poor today, had no control of the midfield. Clearly down to his injury though, so hopefully he will get better after the international break. The rest could do him good as his form has dipped a little since the last block of internationals.
  21. They have been coming right through the centre of our midfield all match. Guthrie has been good on the ball, but Cabaye was very poor (understandable given the injury), Marveaux doesn't show himself as much as Obertan, and Jonas has been off the pace. Basically we are winning because of a bit of luck and a split second moment of inspiration.
  22. Bit worried about the second half to be honest. Don't think we have played that well, although Ba and Best have led the line well. To be honest I think Cabaye's injury has been massive.
