With hindsight I am actually really pleased that we barely signed or sold anyone in the past 18 months. We’ve been on a journey with a group of lads for 3.5 years, yesterday was the culmination of that journey and we saw the likes of Schar, Burn, Pope, Trippier, Wilson, Krafth, Joelinton, Willock, Longstaff and Murphy all win a major tournament before we move on to the next phase of the club.

The European dynamic has completely changed, before the weekend there was an unusually large chasing pack that meant that even a place in a lesser European competition would be highly competitive. the likes of Fulham and Brighton wanted a Liverpool win yesterday. Instead we won and took a European place that is no longer available to the chasing pack. albeit with a difference in prize money, we don’t have to look over our shoulder any more, we can only go so far backwards. We can just focus now on getting as high up the table as possible, and if we don’t manage to well that is fine.
