If our wingers (well whoever plays out wide) can provide some width and decent crosses then I would fancy Carroll to get a fair few goals.

For anyone against signing him, what would you have said about Ameobi, Smith, Nolan and R.Taylor last May? Probably sell if possible for the majority of people. Harewood is an experienced Premiership striker who will cause teams problems in this division if he's in a team of players who excelling. Theres nowt to lose on this one. An extra experienced body in who has shown at times that he can be effective.

I'd be happy if we brought him in on loan. What do we have to lose? As we've already seen, players who performed terribly in the Premiership are looking a class above in this league. He would be coming into a team in good form playing alongside players who are superior to most players in this division. If Ameobi can shine in this league than theres no reason why Harewood can't. If he looks shite then we've still got Carroll, Lovenkrands, Ranger and Ameobi when he comes back and we can send him back. Nothing to lose. I reckon he'd be decent for a few goals.

Moved Shearer on? Up until the end of the 03/04 season he was good enough for anyone in the Premiership. He was still banging them in and performing consistently.

Hughton has said today that he wants some loans.

Surely we should be looking to bring in around 3 players on loan like. It shouldn't cost us much and we need to bulk the squad up a bit. Cathcart and a winger would be nice. I'd like us to sign another full back and striker as well but I can't see it.

Aye, we are ok for now, but we cannot afford to not have a new owner by next summer. I'd hate January to come round with us worrying about players leaving and not being able to buy again. Would be fucking great if we can keep our good form up and go into the January window with a new owner and some money to spend which could improve us further.

I think Hughton would be even more annoying than Roeder if he was appointed full time manager and things went wrong. He's far too nice and I'd feel like punching the screen if he came on telly with his post match interview making excuses and filling us with bullshit. I appreciate what he is doing though. Can't believe anyone would want him as permanent manager. Without trying to be disrespectful, who would want to come and sign for him if we went back up? He just hasnt got the overall package to be a manager.

Jesus christ, no thanks. Really? not being funny but surely all of these managers have proven themselves to be succesful at different stages. Coppell/Strachan I wouldn't mind, they could quietly do well with us. Surely you would consider taking one of them over keeping Hughton full time? - I admire what Hughton has done, but I still think a better manager would get even more out of our players. I'd rather us kept Hughton for now and see if he can keep this going rather than appoint any of them. There is absolutely no way I would give Hughton the job full time, but I think he is showing that he is capable of getting a team of players playing to their ability in this league. I don't see any logic in appointing anyone of them three managers mentioned. They have all been Premiership managers and all been relatively successful at their former clubs but they were only expected to keep their clubs up really and it wasn't pretty stuff (might be being harsh on Curbishley for the couple of decent seasons Charlton had). I am not suggesting for one minute that I expect us to go straight back up then have a right to stay there and be in the top half. I just think that Hughton is capable of winning matches with these players so there is no need to appoint a manager like the ones mentioned. I'd much rather we either appointed Shearer or kept Hughton than them lot. I know Shearer's unproven but he might just turn out to be a successful manager, and I'd rather take the risk than appoint a proven but very limited manager. Then again, if we go back up and we find a buyer then there will be no shortage of takers for the job. Would anyone seriously want one of them managers coming in for the long term? I'd rather take a gamble on Shearer or wait until we are in a position to appoint a bloody good manager.

Find it hard to believe that we've managed to keep a player of his ability in this league. He's absolute streets ahead of most players in this league. If we manage to go up first time and hold onto him we would have done great, because we will not find a better left back than him to sign for us even if we go straight back up. He has a lot of potential.

I still want Shearer but like I said in the other thread, theres no rush with the way things are going and the transfer window being shut. Ideally you would want the long term manager in charge sooner rather than later but things are going fine on the pitch. When we are eventually sold I would love Shearer as manager. If this drags on and on and we aren't sold until after the January transfer window then I would be more than happy for new owners to come in and offer Roy Hodgson the job next summer if we get promoted. Would be harsh on Hughton but he must not be allowed to manage us in the Premiership.

Although I'd love us to be sold now, it doesn't really matter as much for now with the window closed. We can't lose anymore players now and Hughton is getting them playing on the pitch. The main reason we were so desperate to get Ashley out ASAP was because we were in danger of losing all of our decent players and he wouldn't spend any money. This doesn't apply now anyway. The best thing would be for him to go and for the new manager to come in and get cracking but we can breathe a bit easier now.

It would be mental to play Ranger up front on his own. If Carroll, Shola and Xisco are out then the obvious answer is Smith alongside him. Smith has absolutely no goal threat but he will help out Ranger and he might be able to hold the ball up a bit with Ranger getting on the end of some chances.

So thats Dunne to Villa, Distin to Everton. Surely that means Taylor is staying now.

If it was my choice I'd consider dropping Smith as well. No way on this earth will it happen. He doesn't deserve to be dropped, but with Guthrie's ability and Nolan getting amongst the goals I'd consider playing them two together. Smith has been playing well but he's still offering fuck all going foward. Does our team really need an Alan Smith at home to Leicester? If everyone is fit I'd go: Harper, Simpson, Taylor, Coloccini, Enrique, Guthrie, Barton, Nolan, Jonas, Ameobi, Carroll Its not likely that all of them will be fit enough to start or play a part at all though. I'd prefer R.Taylor to stay in if Barton can't start though. Smith will be important for us away but I fail to see why we shouldn't be more positive at home.
