Well look at it this way. If he ends up proving himself to be a quality goalscorer in the Premiership he will not be at Sunderland for too long. If he can't get in double figures regularly then who gives a shite anyway?
-
Dyer really does not need replaced imo. Its not as if he had a proper position anyway. We've got enough attacking options now, and if we were to bring in another attacking player it should be a top quality one, not one just for the sake of replacing Dyer.

Nobby to Portsmouth? - "No offers yet" says Allardyce

Nobby can't exactly discuss with his wife where they want to live anymore, he's separated with her. This is a genuine serious situation. -

Come on man, Nobby wouldn't leave us for another team in the Premiership if it wasn't for something serious. He's loved by all of us and he loves the club. I'll be gutted if he leaves. He's been such a brilliant player for us. -
Peter Ramage is 25 next year

The main point is though, you need your first team perfect first. If he can get these other couple of experienced plays in he seems to want, then he might be able to think longer term. This experience is what we are crying out for imo. Its only really defensively where he seems to want older players. Look at our defenders: Carr (30), Rozenhal (27), Taylor (21), Cacapa (31), Ramage (23), Huntington (19), Edgar (20), Enrique (21) and Babayaro (28?) I can see why he wants in an experienced right back he can rely on, and an experienced centre back looking at that. Our front 6 are mostly still young.
-
Would it really matter if we paid slightly over the odds for one player if we could get even 2 years out of him if it would make our starting 11 quality throughout?
-
Our problem last season was we relied to heavily on youngsters. We needed a few older players. You write down our strongest 11 on paper and look at their age. How many players over 30 are in that team?
-
Serious case of deja vu there! £2M is a cracking deal and would take our net spending to around £16.5M - not including the massive sign-on fees for Viduka, Geremi and potentially Cacapa, Ashley and Mort don't back the manager, you know? This "squad depth" thing is quite tasty, eh? Be nice if we can get rid of Dyer and get it down to £10m though.

I'm just scared of his surname
-
He managed to get booked in 3 minutes. Sell him. Never make it.

Looking foward to this. Think Spurs will win though.

I think we have a better side than arsenal, and tottenham, that gives us half a chance to finish fourth, right? We don't even have a better side than Everton yet. Half of our team is new and they have played one game together (some players didn't even play in that either). If we can just squeeze in 6th we've had a good season.
-
We will not finish in the top 4 though anyway. Not this season.
-
I don't think we will finish in the top 5 but say we did i fucking hope 40 odd thousand won't boo them and piss off on the last day of 08/09 if we ONLY finish 6th.

One of my mates has played against Huntington and he reckons he's absolute shite, but i wouldn't take much notice of it anyway. I've got a mate who knows Carl Finnigan and he is bitter about us releasing him, so he takes any dig at Andy Carroll he can and wants him to fail just because we didn't hold on to Finnigan. Who gives a fuck tbh.
-
Huntingtons contract is up next summer, Edgars doesn't run out until 2009.
-
What performances has Huntington put in to give you any confidence in him playing ahead of Ramage. I really don't want to have a dig at Huntington because he is still young, but he just looks like a fish out of water at the minute (he has played out of position most of the time, but he still looks far too nervous). I would pick Ramage ahead of him at the minute just for the fact that he gets stuck in. Huntington looks scared. But surely that is why he should be loaned out. He was thrown into the deep end and out of position. No wonder he lookeds scared at times. I think if they were loaned out then Sam could see if they improve with regular football. That is the reason i want him loaned out.

I dunno about that though really because Edgar has been away with Canada so he wasn't available for all of our friendlys anyway, plus he didn#t need as many minutes as the other defenders when he came back. Ramage is probably ahead of him because of his experience at the minute but Allardyce isn't daft. I'm sure he'll notice Edgar is better soon enough.
-
Right i've just thought of this with the potential signing of Yepes. We can't really loan them out as it stands but if we get another centre back in then that means we will have 7 centre backs on our books. I would personally loan both Edgar and Huntington out if we manage to bring another in and keep Ramage as 5th choice. I don't rate Ramage but i think as 5th choice he will be lucky to get a game all season apart from the odd run out in the cup maybe. I think i would be more comfortable with him in defence than i would with Huntington. I think Huntington needs to go out on loan more than any of the other youngsters. He needs toughened up and played in his natural position as well. Edgar has definitely looked the part in the few games he's played. I think it would do Edgar better to go out on loan until January and play every week, than keep him as 5th choice defender, when he might not even get any time on the pitch for us. Remember this is only if we get another defender in.
-
Would be nice to get another centre back in. I don't have much faith in Ramage but in a big emergency he isn't THAT bad as 5th choice centre back. We can get away with him coming in against lesser teams if we've got a good team around him. He's never actually played in a good Newcastle team yet. He is definitely a weak link but he will do for this season. I say 5th choice because i would loan out Edgar if we can get another defender in. He has looked a class above Ramage and Huntington the few times he's played. Get him loaned out and maybe Huntington as well. I think Huntington is absolutely desperate for a good kicking in a lower league tbh.

I've thought this for a while. We would have struggled with it last season like.

Hammers eye Solano move - More Oliver bollocks?
Leazes1986 replied to Leazes1986's topic in Football
Its ok. Nobby has said he will stay here and be happy if he can't get a move down London. Dyer can rot away if he has to.
