I believe it was probably the same thing during the first pre-season game and this is why he was distressed after the game and has probably since decided to leave. Brand new start to the season, everyone looking forward to a new start and he's getting abuse before he's even done anything wrong. I think a break up is best for all involved. I agree. In an ideal world we would get the defenders in the next couple of weeks, then if West Ham came in we could sell him and replace him with a quality attacking midfielder. As long as we can get the defenders in soon then it would be great business to get him of the wage bill and bring in someone with proper quality to replace him.

Why give it to Given though when he doesn't even command his defence properly, never mind lead the whole team? He's a quality keeper, and he deserves it as far as loyalty and commitment goes, but he's not ideal as a captain. Butt would be the obvious choice but he's getting on and we need some stability cos we can't be changing our captain every other year. I think we should wait a bit longer to see who we bring in.

Sign a new contract committing your best years to the club, and wipe out your clause and i won't have a problem.

He also said he met Duff for the first time today, and he is looking to give nearly everyone 45 minutes (60 max) tomorrow. Obviously Taylor, Edgar, Milner and Duff won't be involved. Don't think Luque will either.
