FWIW, I think we will win a trophy. Eventually we'll fight our way to another final and come up against a team even more hopeless and unlucky in finals than we are.
They haven't, like. Taylor hasn't started with Rozehnal and Beye, AFAIK, Milner hasn't played on the right, Butt has always started in the middle with Geremi, and Enrique has never started in the PL.
If you count a flair player as a luxury player (a player who'll contribute little but then pull something out the bag from nowhere), then I think Martins is just about the only one we have and Sam seems reluctant to play him. I don't blame him for not jumping in with both feet, but Big Sam needs to find a balance. We're not Bolton, and we don't want to play like Bolton.
Aye, to be fair to Big Sam it's a pub team that's 5th in the league. I'm not pleased with his tactics, but he needed to keep things solid while buying some time. I hope he's now got the freedom to experiment a little and allow the players to express themselves.
So that's our yardstick for the season then? A defeat to Derby. Does that mean Aston Villa should be devastated if they draw at home to Man Utd, because they beat Chelsea 2-0?
I dread to see what people think when we do have to go to places like Old Trafford or Stamford Bridge. Should we just throw the towel in then and concentrate on damage limitation - try to keep them down to two or three goals?
No. You're right we should be aiming to beat Citeh, but if we come away with a point it's something to build on.
I'd like to see a separate thread called What Allardyce Should've Done. We can print it out and send it to Big Sam in January and he can learn from us all.
