  1. exactly tbh. Although conditions hardly helped him on Saturday. He hasnt got the sharpness at the moment, he is still a great stopper though. Clearly a long way off Shay though now. The form he was on a few years ago was equal to shay's but then he got injured and Lazuras stayed in nets for the following two years. Really he should have moved on, but he loves life here, has got a degree and studied to be a referee and I think is generally content with life in the comfort zone. Shame but thats his choice maybe he had no other ambition but to play for us.

    Gooch

He would certainly do Sgt.Slaughter proud as GI-Gooch
  3. Its funny the West Ham supporters I know are ok, and were livid with Pardew's sacking. I would love to see them go down just for that. Id fully expect us to be in for Ferdinand in the summer if so, but that may depend on WBA going up.
  4. I was reasonably impressed with Babayaro, his passing was simple but effective, he made some decent runs forward. Was very much shaken and low on confidence, which is understandable given the season he has had and the events 24hours previous to the game. He needs to really work on his defensive side and toughen up a bit. I just hope he can keep fit as he will get better if he has a decent run in the side. He is leagues ahead of Ramage, Taylor, Carr or anybody else we currently have at the club. Will be good back up next season. He is seems well liked amoungst the players and staff.
  5. Well he will line up Bramble and Taylor in the centre Thursday, that game and the return leg will have a huge baring on who lines up with Gooch against Wigan. Two solid shows from the both of them might even force Gooch to the bench. By the time we play in the league again its likely to be Nobby Gooch Taylor/Bramble Baba IMO. Taylor and Bramble have it all to prove in the Uefa. That said I would be suprised if we lined up the same as Saturday against Wigan.
  6. From a structual and visual point of view it would be amazing to extend the Gallowgate around to match the leazes, giving a horseshoe effect. Like mentioned though we would struggle to fill it, especially as ticket prices would probably soar just to fund it. Would look imense though, Someone posted some images of how it would look a while ago.
  7. I think the presentation should consist of Luque, Carr, Bernard and Pattison celebrating like they have won the world cup. Lets spend our summer budget on streamers and fireworks too!
  8. For me: Given Solano Gooch Bramble Baba Parker Emre Dyer Milner Martins Owen Harper Taylor Ameobi two from Duff/Zoggy/the butt-meister depending on form and where we are playing Home/away etc.
  9. Great news. Big hopes he will be back this season. If he is he will be ready, we are pretty carefull as far as rushing players back is concerned. Anybodies guess how long it will take though. Running is surely a great sign though.
  10. Thought Tuncay was available too.. Would certainly have him in there ahead of Kanu or Viduka. Would be suprised if we dont chase Jarvis and Viduka again. Ben Haim, Distin, Nesta (yeah right!) Sidwell and Duscher would all be fantastic additions.
  11. Yeah read this earlier, decent reading although basically its correct in saying we havent produced the good things have been happening over the past few years. The likes of Taylor, Chopra, Ameobi, now Edgar and Huntingdon cant be ignored, although they are hardly the flair and level of their predecesors. At least a few lads are breaking through.

Can see a nasty Distin repeat at the end of the season. Albeit he will be going to a much better club, and wont be going just for the money. Roeder hypes it up like this is his big chance to make it and "win" a toon contract. If he continues the way he is going I think it could be more of a chance we would do well to hold unto him. He is a very ambitious player and has refused to talk past the end of the season so far, infact he hasnt even said anything other than he wants to do his best until the end of the season.
  13. I think thats exactly what will work for the partnership. Owen and Martins have obvious similarities, but Oba doesnt make the instinctive runs that Owen does and prefers coming from deep. Martins also has the strength and power to add another dimension. The only thing really missing would be the lack of height.
  14. Cant see a top 6 finish, other teams are picking up too many points and we are stupidly inconsistent. 9th for me.
  15. Bramble and Gooch looked good in the second half, but bramble let bellamy slip past him way too often in the first. Sure there is potential in the Bramble and Gooch partnership but its always going to be let down by the mistakes of at least the former. Unfortunately Taylor is almost as Rash at times as the bumble.
  16. Baba had a good match, he had some dodgy defensive moments yes. but on the whole was good considering how long he has been out. The comments about him constantly giving the ball away is nonsense, he actually looked better than normal coming forward and linked up well with Milner. Id have him in ahead of anyone else we have at LB. He is too easily pushed off the ball though and can make a rash challenge too many. Hopefully he can stay fit and improve now. Have him in the team over Carr a million times over.
  17. Aye, I'm happy. My team won, Bellamy was plagued by bad luck otherwise he'd have scored 4. Imagine him in our team playing alongside Martins instead of Dyer, something Newcastle fans would be over the moon about if it happened. Owen for Bellamy this summer maybe? By the way, using doesn't make it any less abusive than using the words. No need. That would be a great piece of business, but hardly likely is it ? He was superb yesterday and showed he has lost none of his desire and passion, just glad he didn't round it off with goals. You're right Martins and Bellamy would terrify any premiership defence. The booing yesterday was pretty minimal - it's always gonna be audible - but no one around where I was sitting joined in which probably indicates the majority of NUFC fans still appreciate him. If only we could get him back in a B&W shirt ?? How would swapping some thats likely to score 15-20 goals a season for one that would struggle to score 10 be a good piece of business? Dont get me wrong bellamy is a great player but he isnt half the player owen is. Which we will see next season. Owen and Martins will be a much better partnership than Bellars and Martins IMO. The flack Owen gets on this board is ridiculous.

looking forward to watching him on football first. Looked good against Fulham on FF. Solid and throws his body infront of anything he can. Wasnt as confident in the air as I would have expected him to be, but today I hear he was the opposite. Against Fulham he looked very composed on the ball, and not in a beligerant Bramble way. Given a solid partner Id easily pick him first amoungst what we have. Gooch and Woodgate Gooch and Distin certainly wouldnt be a bad shout, did he sign a new contract in the end? either way I think if we wanted Distin we would have bought him in January.
  20. Ridiculous. The place should have at least gone to the team that didnt qualify from Feyernoord group. Fact is you could give them a bye in the next round aswell.. both us and spurs will bottle it before we get to the final.
  21. I was hoping along the same lines, ie forcing him to play for them every week. maybe the ROI can follow suit with Carr. Great news for us really if true, very poor play by the Nigerian FA that have messed the lad around enough already. Hard for Oba..good news for us.
  22. It wont happen because we might possibly be playing 24 hours later and we dont want the pitch wrecked, also its alot of money for Milan fans to pay to get here. Although, brownie points that will swing in our favour when we swoop for Kaká and Pirlo in the summer!
  23. In the latest Owen interview they said he has every chance of being fit enough to return at the end of March too... ..although Im happy to hope for May any earlier is a bonus. N'Zogs injury and Emres just keep getting pushed back
  24. Crouch has been very frustrating tonight. Carrick poor throughout and Lampard has had a bad second half.
