He has played through the middle before but predominantly on the left. Given the squad depth we need I hope this doesn't mean the end of ASM. I can also see Gordon impressing with England through the middle being a real boost and moving him into 3rd striker on our depth chart (I guess he was probably there anyway). Still need a RW though.

Was pure class under Rafa. Versatile on the pitch filling in at RB and CB as well as DM. Sadly seemed to regress to broken and unfixable under Bruce. If Howe didn't want to keep him before then he must be too far gone. Can't see Eddie changing his mind. Real shame as he only just turned 28 a few months back, should be in his prime.

Leicester are good at rinsing so probably true but press have been saying 30m to West Ham this week. Reports us say 40m. Seems cheap but he isn't a full regular England international like Maddison. If that is accurate there is a good chance we can get 10-20m more than that for ASM. Especially if Saudi is the destination. I'd still rather keep ASM and just get a RW but if the Barnes rumours are true then maybe that's the moneyball thinking ?

Only reason I can see us getting Barnes is if we are shipping ASM away for a much bigger profit and using that to go for a bigger RW like Diaby.

LW is stocked. We know Big Joe and Little Joe can operate there and Howe put Isak there. Then we have Gordon, ASM, Almiron, even Murphy at a push. The right side is more problematic. I think little Joe has played there hasn't he? Another young versatile right sided forward would be good.

52m? What happened to 35m he was going to Liverpool for lol. At 35-40m I could see us being interested but we aren't spending 52m on another CM when a creative wide right attacker and LB are bigger priorities, arguably a CB would be ahead of another CM. It's possible Eddie is thinking both Big and Little Joe can push out to wide left with another CM addition. Thuram would certainly be an immense addition just don't see it unless we are spending nearer 200m this window.

Stats wise he was the best PL attacking fullback in 21/22 season and second best defensively. He also played LCB at Brighton and won a motm playing there in the CL last year. He had a horror season but I wouldn't put it past Howe and team to turn him back around. Probably a better LB for 30/25m but there is likely still a player in there to be salvaged with a fresh start.

Actually thought Chalobah looked good against us at the end of the season. He isn't a heir to Schar and not a whole lot better than Lascelles imo though. Gallagher would be a good squad addition but we can surely do better. Ignacio rumours firing back up. Guehi too. Although it seems we could get Ignacio for half the price and he can play in either CB role.

To be fair Barnes got 13 goals from 34 performances in the PL this season. 1 assist isn't all that great for a winger though.
