  1. GK Given RB Solano LB Baba CB Ramage CB Taylor RM Milner CM Butt CM Emre LM Zoggy ACM Sibs CF Martins The only changes I can see from that is Carr replacing Nobby and Nobby replacing Milner. I hope that is not the case we look far more steady with Nobby as RB than Carr. Baba is not ideal as LB but he is a better LB than Ramage. I look forward to seeing Ramage having a few games at CB. I think we will see a marked improvement from him there rather than LB. I hope Milner is not replaced he is playing well at the moment, I think a goal from him will see he move on even more. The lad is a good honest worker with a few tricks and a bit of end product if he can bring consistency to his game we have a canny player there.
  2. All these "talks" where have they come from. By the way Tribal Footbll doesn't count. PS Given the logic that you believe these talks are to be true do we also assume that Shevchenko will be arriving on loan for 5 months then?

    West Ham's corners.

As someone mentioned with the corners if you leave attacking players up especially quick ones defenders must also drop back. Even at the level of football I play we often leave 2 upfront and we have at least 3 defenders marking and still have enough to cover the corner. At times with us we clear the ball straight back to the attacking team and the have another oppourtunity. It may take a brave manager to leave 3 in attack on corners but I think it could be effective!
  4. NOTW= Brilliant Sunday morning entertainment. I have been wrong before but really cannot see this one happening. Glady take him for 5 months if true though!
  5. I would like us to stay solid for a bit longer before we heap praise on Pearson. Afterall he did come from a failed management unit at West Brom. Good luck to him I am happy with any coach that can improve our defence. If the clean sheets start becoming more constant and mistakes are being cut out then he deserves all the praise in the world. I wonder if he will have any influence on defensive targets in the transfer window.

    Gary Speed

Even now he is still playing better than his replacement Nicky Butt. I wasn't happy that Speed had left thought I must admit at the time I thought it was a good idea to bring Nicky Butt in. Speed is a very intelligent player and he has been able to adapt his game so he can go on. It helps that Bolton pack the midfield with vert tenacious players, don't think he has the legs for a midfield 4 anymore. Legend! Easily could get in the Welsh squad pity he has retired then again it has probably prolonged his career having long rests during International weeks.
  7. He is not the long term solution there but there is no doubt Nobby is our best option at RB until January. I go along with many on this forum that believe that Carr is the biggest disease of our defence. I am not excusing Brambles inept performances but the loss against Bolton highlight how clueless Carr is. Didn't he want out recently, should have let him go.

    Harewood

He is a 3million pound player at best. Wouldn't mind him here at the moment as he would offer us something different. Just shows how silly domestic prices are. 11 million is silly money and no matter how much we need a striker 11 million would almost rebuild our defence.
  9. Two games doesn't mean we have turned the corner with Dyer but the signs are very encouraging. Its obvious when he plays and is on form for us we are a different team. He was a breath of fresh air at times today. Excellent pass for Martins goal that was chalked off. I used to be a big Dyer fan but got more and more frustrated with him, I probably even wrote him off as an effective player for I just hope this stint continues. If he carries on playing the way he is and stays fit beyond Christmas then there is no doubt he will make the England squad.
  10. I am eating a large portion of humble pie I must admit, I was furious with his signing but he has been very effective for us this season. He is obviously no world beater but he has been a big positive for us this season. Similar to Gallagher when Bobby first came here, I wasn't impressed with that signing yet he did hell of a job for us. Siebierski has that scoring touch for us hope his decent form continues. Some nice little showboat moments aswell(The New Zidane tongue.gif)
  11. GK Shay RB Carr LB Ramage CB Taylor CB Bramble RM Solano LM Luque CM Butt CM Pattison ACM Siebierski CF Carroll We need to make sure Emre, Dyer and Martins are fit for our next game and even of Zoggy, Milner and Parker are able to play keep the team I have suggested. It is essential we keep these players fit. Nobby at RB makes a huge difference IMO him over Carr any day! But for this game because Milner is doubtful we would need him in midfield.
  12. I shat myself when Dyer went down clutching his hamstring, glad it was a cut looked damn nasty though. Hope its straight forward a few stiches a bit of savlon. He makes a big difference to us. We look great going forward when people like Emre, Dyer and N'Zogbia are twisting people inside out. I am not getting carried away but that was a big improvement on what we have seen this season. Kids should get a run on Thursday, I don't see why not, especially with a few knocks we have picked up.

    £25m in Jan?

Our defence needs a major overhaul any money we have got to spend must be on defenders first and foremost. I'd rather us be tight that exciting at the moment. We need to build a strong base and then think about entertainment. Full backs we need 1st of all. Bit of a gutter about Wayne Bridge. I think if we had two solid good full backs it would make a big improvement on all our defence. Is it worth a cheeky bid for Heinze, seeing as Man Utd have Evra and Silvestre both ahead of him and he is being linked with PSG?
  14. This would be a good idea, the 10 yard rule needs to be introduced with the attacking team having the option of move forward, for example Beckham may be 25 yards out orginally then moved 10 yards forward which would be a punishment for him, he should have the option stay where you are or move forward 10. No back chat should be tolerated, action is taken in rugby if decisions are disputed. The next time Man Utd or Chelsea gather around the ref in an agressive manor and he starts issuing yellow and red cards those players would then think twice. I have seen Graham Poll being sworn at something terrible by Wayne Rooney on a number of occasions during the same match and he has done nothing about it. Referees must be shown more respect. The players reactions are making things much worse, There have been some contoversial decisions in rugby but they are not blown out of proportion because players and coaches have just got on with the game.
  15. Nolberto is not a RB but I'd rather have him there than Stephen Carr, that says alot. I think Solano can hold his own there for now. We have no better options and with Milner playing well we can afford to drop Solano back deeper.
  16. Says the guy who takes his time to sign up to a opposition fan site and write a fairly long thread! Haven't you got better things to do?

    Team for Portsmouth

I think it will be GK Given RB Solano LB Ramage CB Taylor CB Bramble RM Milner LM Zoggy CM Parker CM Emre ACM Dyer CF Martins I would like to see GK Given RB Solano LB Ramage CB Taylor CB Bramble DM Butt CM Parker CM Emre RWF Dyer LWF Luque CF Martins given our negativity at the moment I could see this turning into a 4-5-1 but I think it would also give Dyer and Luque more freedom going forward. Things didn't go well for Luque last night but the only way for him to improve is with games, N'Zogbia wasn't that impressive last night but it would be harsh on Sibs who has done nothing wrong. But I do think the only chance we have of getting any kind of form out of Luque is by giving him minutes on the pitch. However it is very likely that he will not even be in the squad.
  18. He is not a left back. I think we would see a vast improvement from him at centre half. I don't think he is our long term answer but I think its a bit harsh to judge him at Left Back.
  19. Maybe a coach that coaches helps a bit rather than one that takes bets down the bookies and books Christmas parties. Thank goodness Pearson has come in now Terry Mac can get back doing what he was brought here for - FUNTIME
  20. Our most reliable defender at the moment which says hell of a lot about our current situation. Fair play he has proved many wrong on here. He is not a great player but he has done a job for us and we look that bit more solid with him than without. But agree if his contract is up in the summer leave him go back to Oz.

    Kieron Dyer

When fit he is one of our better players and in small glimpses we have seen how good he is. I think it would be a massive boost if he remains fit as I believe he can be a big asset for us. We have seen him break down too many times to get carried away just yet. Heres hoping he can stay fit.
  22. Hoep everything does come together well for Owen, we need a bit of positive news for a change. If we can get him on the pitch for the last month of the season that would be a massive boost. Tell England to keep their hands off and go through a decent pre-season and with a bit of luck we may get the chance to see the best of MO. He is a top player if he can regain full fitness he will be a massive asset for us. His goal reecord for every team he has played for has been great even for us in the small amount of games he has played. Good luck Michael.
  23. There is no telling in how Shearer would do here. But I would not be very optimistic with his appointment. I wouldn't write him off for the sake of it because everybody has got to start somewhere, but chances are this is too big a job for Shearer. I am sure if Roeder goes any time soon Shearer will be approached, just worried the same will happen again, the feel good factor and fresh ideas of a new manager lifts the players until the end of this season and then fo the start of the next the lack of ability with the manager kicks in. In an ideal world Alan Shearer would come in and lift us back to the heights of Champions League football, I am sure most people would be happy with that but there is a strong chance Alan Shearer will fail, I wouldn't want him to fail for obvious reasons.
  24. And I thought my local paper was full of cack. Surely this is a joke guys?
  25. I'd bring Given in goals, Nobby in for Gillespie and Duff (at his best) over Ginola, and a debate then over Batty or Parker think I would edge towards Scott Parker.
