Merlin or Voldemort? Google Translate: "Schuster will replace interim coach John Carver (50) and may even bring a wizard."

Depends on how you define "best" - straightforward ability or also overall contribution to the club? In terms of pure ability, Gazza is the top NUFC player I've seen, but if you asked me for the greatest player I've seen play for NUFC, I'd say Beardsley (ability + contribution). The same goes for Woodgate v Colo in terms of top NUFC centre-backs I've seen.

He can Mr Whippy them in. *gets coat*

This is very terrible. Its got the lot. The holy trinity: deluded, Leeds and pitiful acceptance of fans not having any say whatsoever. Genius. It needed a Portsmouth for a full house but not a bad effort. B+ Long time lurker and even longer fan but i agree with these points. Why does any fan think they can change MA? And tbh - why would they? Simple question - what do you guys want? I agree ambition in the cups would be my no.1 but aside from that i would rather him as an owner than 90% of the other owners. I'd love ambition but realistically there is a limited amount of people who can spend unlimited money on players these days - Man Utd try to win the title and spend £150mill or so and are still no-where near. Football has lost its soul and we aren't the only fans suffering. PS - my choice for manager - still Steve Mac. Top coach and will get the best out of our youngsters which is the one thing i still enjoy most. Spending 150 million and trying to win the title is now a bad thing? Can't believe it's been this f***ing easy for t***s like MA to get all the simpleton fans to think that all they can expect of a team is to exist. What the f*** is the point in supporting NUFC if this is the case? What the f*** is the f***ing point. Meh - no need to get angry and call me simple. What other team is different? Its how football is these days - at least we have exciting talent like Aarons. There is a point- its supporting a local team. The biggest pride to me has been seeing our players represent their countries and i hope our new manager can help develop local talent. Exciting talent like Aarons - aye, and how long will he be a Newcastle player? Will you be as proud when him and Perez are doing their stuff elsewhere this time next year? Never mind though, eh, cos we'll have launched their top-flight careers and paid a bit more of the interest off Ashley's loan for him into the bargain, so all good? Jesus wept, you'd have LOVED being a Newcastle fan in the 80s. Had we all been as fulfilled by seeing other clubs rape us for our young talent, the McKeags would now still be in charge and we'd be constantly looking over our shoulders in the Championship. As it was, we fought for change, and look what followed.

Billy Davies??

Fair point. As clueless as he often was, Souness still had a presence which demanded a basic level of respect. Pardew demands pure, undiluted contempt.

5 weeks eh? What a coincidence that is exactly the sort of timeframe that would take us up to the end of the transfer window without signing a striker. Which would be a disastrous time for a "recurrence" of this injury, because there would be nothing we can do about it then. Certainly not poor old Alan's fault, anyway Spot on. The c**t is so transparent. But the fact he has ALWAYS despised us was hammered home the other day when I met an old mate I haven't seen for a few years. Was telling me he went to the away game at Man City in Pardew's first full season and happened to be staying in the same hotel as the team the night before. Guess who was still drinking in the bar when he and his missus went to bed at 2.45am?

Heard it all now. Since when has Tiote carried the ball forward like Colback did against Chelsea - for both his first-half chance and the second goal? Tiote moves in ever decreasing circles, taking a touch or three too many in trying - often unsuccessfully and at the cost of the team - to hold off/beat a man and convince us he is a footballer. He didn't carry the ball for the first goal, for the second he picked it up on the break took a couple of paces forward into the empty space before releasing a good pass. He's Nicky Butt reincarnated but a bit slower. Ironically, Colback's derby goal did for your Tiote theory. Had time and loads of room to take the ball forward, bottled it with a nothing (but characteristic) square pass and that was that.

Bollocks. He's ok - nothing more, yet most people on here won't even acknowledge that (instead, he's the anti-Christ). Does saying that mean I'm as happy with Colback as I would be with Cabaye? Does it f**k. Of course he's a massive downgrade. Is that depressing? Yes. But does that mean he's worse than sh*te? No. Seriously man, I have seen dozens of midfielders worse than Colback play for us. I've probably seen two better than Cabaye. Get a grip. Well you proved my point so not sure why you're angry about it. In no way should we be 'getting a grip' for being unhappy that we've replaced a class player with an extremely mediocre player. Not my point. I was referring to your spurious claim that the "majority of supporters" had suddenly decided he is a worthy successor to Cabaye, when all they have actually done (the "Rob Lee without the goals" lunatic aside) is be pleased he's had a couple of decent games.

Genuinely done well recently. Couldn't give a f*** if he doesn't contribute in the final third if his presence gives Sissoko even more licence to do his thing. Sad, but not unexpected, that some people can't acknowledge as much.

Precious few would have surfaced so soon after a monumental self tucking. Fair play to you.
-
Even he played well today. Actually tried to effect the game for a change. He seemed to be pressing very effectively today instead of just ambling around. Thought this was actually Colback's best performance so far. He outshone Henderson, for me. Don't know how anyone can argue with you there. Truly frightening, the level of cluelessness among many on here.

It's a load of drivel though, as we had the second best defence in the league that season despite what the press tell you. We lost the league because Ferdinand's arse fell out, and also Lee stopped scoring for about 3 months too. If we'd have had Shearer for that run-in we would have won it, due to him being a lot tougher mentally than Sir Les. So I can totally understand why Keegan decided to bring him in. I've never heard anyone blame Ferdinand and Lee before. Is this a commonly held view? No. I agree with the point re Ferdinand, and know many others who went home and away every week back then who agree too. He lost it at the worst possible time - a moment of composure from him v Man Utd at home for example, and we'd have made it.

This. And I also have to say it's far easier for people on here who don't attend to call for mass vocal protests than it is for fans at the game itself to grasp the nettle. Do people honestly expect all fans at the match - season ticket money spent, many of them accompanied by kid(s), others just glad to be out of the house and on the lash, many not naturally inclined to take an individual stand and draw attention to themselves - to actively celebrate opposition goals? Depressing it may be that the ferocity of the anti-AP feeling on here - totally justified as it is - is not reflected in the matchday atmosphere. But life is far simpler online. *fixes chinstrap on tin hat*

Embarrassing thread title. Colback has had a couple of poor games, but Jesus wept.

Not for me. If McGregor had done his job at his near post on Saturday...

Experiencing it as an adult was special. Watching that magic happen and appreciating how different it was from the norm, man. Thinking "OMG This has to get rammed in the long term memory because it won't last". Like a 2 year sporting orgasm This. To those of us who thought being "spoilt" was Paul Goddard or Micky Quinn, it was unbelievable that we finally had a striker who simply looked unplayable - against anybody.

Ffs, Alan Oliver ran with this in the People before Bailey published his shite. End. Of. Story.

Some staggering views expressed here re "why are we still banging on about this?". Before posting such shite, people should properly acquaint themselves with the huge array of evidence now available of not just astonishingly incompetent, insensitive and criminally negligent policing but the full extent of the cover-up (which DID extend to rank and file coppers) and ask themselves what the f*** THEY THEMSELVES would be doing - 25 years after the event - other than ask for justice for the son/husband/father/daughter who died (at a f***ing football match) as a result, and were subsequently smeared as drunken yobs who more or less had it coming. People answered for Heysel in the criminal courts. The negligence which caused the Bradford fire was addressed in the courts. Hillsborough? There hasn't even been a proper inquest until now, let alone a single individual answer a criminal charge. What the f*** are the "why bang on about it" brigade on?

You love him to start with, then the love turns to hatred Yeah basically think he'd do alright upfront though Shame we'll never get to find out...

That's mightily generous where Colo is concerned...
