He may be a mug, but he's not slow.

You're not even watching it, man. If this sorta thing ain't proof about daft agendas against players, then i dunno what is. Guthrie's not a bad player and, if you're making judgements based on the radio, Guthrie has been one of our better players. This. It's pathetic.

Spot on. If Dalglish isn't getting the best out of him, it's down to Dalglish being a c***. Carroll is more than just a threat in the air - ask Sunderland. But when all you do is get Carragher to lump the ball up to him with his back to goal, he's got no chance. They need to get early balls in from wide areas which catch centre-backs on the turn, but Dogleash seemingly can't see it. Ironic - and damning - that he sold Ferdinand all those years ago, then spent so much on a player who thrives on the exact same type of service.

Was thinking the same. It's funny the boot is now on the other foot, but we've worn it.

Boxing Day 86 at Hillsborough, I assume. A near miss for us - as was Spurs away in the FA Cup in 87.

No, it's just kids that he stubs cigars into the eye of or beats to a pulp... Took the words right out of my mouth. The man's a hypocrite. Calls himself a man of the people, then waves his wage packet in the face of people who dare criticise him.

Would like to see Pards start with Marveaux vs Wigan, even if Jonas's form means Marveaux would play on the right. Obertan looks an impact sub at best to me.

Bet the c*** could get into a locked Ford Focus within a minute though. To be fair you just have to look at a Ford and it's doors spring open. Surely the fact that Fords are so s*** is the ultimate theft deterent? Why would anyone want to be seen dead driving one? Very reliable, high spec, good value...

My point was merely that Carroll is no slouch. You performed another U-turn on Saylor yet? http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/football/article-1377679/The-fastest-slowest-fittest-players-Premier-League-club.html

Fair play to him - he's done really well. But pressure wise, there's no comparison. Neither I nor any fan I know expected anything of Best after Carroll left - he's been a massive bonus. By contrast, had Carroll missed the chances Best did yesterday, the backlash would have been merciless. His every move is under scrutiny, Best's isn't.

Daft because you may not like how the stats look at the end of the season? :gm's dummy: As for your point, that is nothing more than just an assertion. No, it's daft, because Carroll is playing under a far greater weight of expectation than Best. Carroll has nor had that many more games for Liverpool than Best had in the second half of the promotion season - ie when he was just arrived, in a successful side and expected to perform. One reason Best has been a minor revelation is because nobody expected anything from him after that half season when he was utter shit. To a lesser extent, the same applied for Carroll in the Championship and even in the Premier League early last season - he massively exceeded modest expectations - modest expectations meaning less pressure; less pressure meaning a more relaxed player. Then there's the fact that Carroll is now playing for a manager who we know all too well struggles to get the best out of players. Oh, and the idea that Carroll can only play football in the air is also complete bollocks. He scored more with his feet than his head last season, was our quickest player (according to stats) and showed on his England debut (dropping the shoulder on one man, then jinking past another against France) that he is decent on the ball. I won't go into your own track recordnon this forum...

This. I'll never forget him bringing down a goal kick and killing it stone dead with his instep late on in the 5-1 v Sunderland. A little bit of wee came out...

Not weird, but still wrong. NUFC has played football at St. James' Park for 119 years, and will probably always play at St. James' Park. There's f*** all tradition left as it is. What's next, renaming the club itself? You simply can't compare sports clubs in the UK to those in other countries. US teams... er, sorry I mean franchises, don't think anything of upping sticks and moving the whole thing to a different state for f***'s sake! Poor Dave. That's more a product of a system without multiple professional levels of a sport within each city/district than it is some lack of sentimentality/community claim. I'll grant you the lesser sports like basketball and hockey do move around more, but MLB has had one move in the last 40 years and the NFL one in the last 15. It's hardly a game of franchise musical chairs with revolving cities every other month. Not that any of that changes the fact the SD sign is an abomination. There have been around 20 NFL teams either moving, renamed or founded in the last 30 years though. Dave's spot on - tradition-wise, there is no comparison with here. The use of the word "franchise" rather than "team" over there is a pretty big clue.

There's clearly a problem, for whatever reason, with not enough black players getting into coaching roles from where they can develop.

The board wanted Carroll to leave (because of the money). Carroll wanted to leave (because of the money). Simples.

I was replying to the guy who said Nolan and Barton got the best out of him. If those two were involved in any team with Carroll it would end up being hoofball by design. Even at Liverpool they are saying that every time he plays they end up humping the ball long towards his head. And you are assuming that scousers are saying words that aren't complete self-pitying twaddle? I don't really care what the scousers say since I was saying it when Nolan was still here. Carroll scored more goals last season with his feet than his head.

Ah well, see ya. Seems a shame you'll be missing out on possibly one of the most promising/exciting squads we've had in a long while. Sorry mate, but Andy Carroll is capable of being one the best strikers in England. Having someone like that play for us is exciting and promising. Not shipping him out only to replace him with a much lesser player on f***ing loan from Manchester United. Seriously, even the most pessimistic of us could not have predicted that we replace Carroll with Federico f***ing Macheda on a loan. Hopefully it's just rumors but I stick by that stance if this does happen and we don't bring in any other strikers. Loads of Liverpool fans are already calling Carroll a waste of money, clumsy, lumbering etc. So f***ing what? He was outstanding for us last season. Anyone with half a brain can see he isn't lumbering either (surprisingly decent pace for a big man). The point is that the trust Ashley mob told us to wait to see how Carroll would be replaced in the summer. Still waiting.

The most incredible away support I have ever seen. Mate's dad was in the Met,'and he said the final police estimate was 14000. A lot of the coppers just stood open-mouthed for most of the afternoon. Remember giving Alf Garnett dog's abuse when he came on the pitch at half-time. Jesus, I feel old.

Exactly, I've said it before but Shepherd's appointments seemed very reactionary. Keegan's too cavalier, recruit the more pragmatic Dalglish. Dalglish has taken the fun out of it, recruit the sexy football merchant Gullit. Gullit has no idea what NUFC means to the city, recruit the local legend Bobby Robson. Robson's too soft, get that arsehole Souness in to smash some skulls. He kind of stumbled across Roeder and Allardyce being our manager always seemed to be on the cards for some reason, but the Souness appointment in particular was an example of bowing to public perception of how the club was being run and just getting a radgee in for the sake of it. But nobody - or no significant number of people - objected to Dalglish or Gullit at the time. Souness, yes, was a guaranteed disaster and, yes, a kneejerk reaction to the young guns' piss taking of Bobby.

No administration (not yet anyeay), but word on Twitter is that Barclays have blocked them doing any spending.

The FC Twente chairman is being reported in Holland as saying "I am well happy" (according to Google translation) with the prospect of Tiote joining Man Utd as he reckons Twente negotiated a good sell-on clause with us. I hope he's just reacting to speculation over here rather than a nod from Tiote's agent etc..

Ah, 20:20 hindsight. Were you complaining when Dalglish or Gullit were appointed? I don't remember any dissent whatsoever. I thought they did approach/offer Bobby the job (when KK left), but he wouldn't walk away from Barcelona at the time? Correct, he turned us down as he was contracted to Barca. He really wanted it but was loyal to Barca, the next season he was sacked as manager but kept on as a scout, i think. In the mean time we sack Dog leash, Hall pushes for Bobby again and dick Shep and dick face Hall junior go for gullit. Then, once we sacked gullit we went for Bobby. I shudder to think of what SBR could have done with what KK had left, sickens me to be honest and ever the players Dog leash left, SBR could have had a midfeild of Speed, Lee and Batty
