Is Mike Ashley steering Newcastle United in the right direction?
TRon replied to LooneyToonArmy's topic in Football
Weve been promoted to premiership have we? weve spent on class centre forwards? weve replaced ryan taylor and nicky butt in midfield? weve survived the first season post championship? f*** me you are THE over-expectand geordie fan myth played out by the media. You fuckin stupid c***. WE WILL BE UP FOR SALE THE DAY WE ARE PROMOTED Please give me a season of mediocrity before you piss me off again Everyone seems to know how it should be done, for some reason no one will put their money where their mouth is and JUST DO IT. Why are all the prospective buyers of Newcastle weighing their pennies and trying to buy the club at a stupidly low price and all their dithering will just allow Ashley to emerge the winner if promotion is achieved? I don't imagine many are comfortable dealing with the t***. Or the £150m of debt, which in the current market gives NUFC a net value of next to nothing. The debt has been there all along. If the interested parties wanted a a massive club capable of generating huge future profits without any debt then this just proves they weren't prepared to commit any investment risk at all. -

I thought they outplayed us at their place and I tend to agree they aren't going to roll over with so much being at stake. I expect them to raise their game for this one and if we are going to win we will need to pick the right side and take our chances on the day. -

...because Coloccini has done more this season, is the simple answer. Did or didn't Taylor play very well this season up until his knee injury? Williamson has looked better than Taylor alongside Colo in my John Humble. That said I've always been a bit of a Taylor sceptic. He seems very good at talking the talk but as a centre back I do believe he's guilty of always looking for the Hollywood tackle. Probably something that a lot of supporters don't want to admit but true nonetheless. Doesn't mean that Taylor has done badly, just brings a bit of perspective to the debate. we are a different set up at home since dropping the smith or butt idea. that may be part of it. I just think that Williamson is a more dominating centre half especially in the air, which compliments Coloccini well.
-
As far as I am aware, Carroll is on around 10k a week, whereas Taylor is on 30-40k. If those figures are anywhere near close to home there's not much scope for a jump in wages for Taylor, whereas Carroll is going to get a big increase. If Taylor wants to stay at Newcastle he's going to have to be sensible in negotiating his next contract.

Needs a run of games more like, but he's not going to get that just yet. Everyone was slagging Andy Carroll off in the first half of the season and look at him now.
-
Agreed. Just imagine if he'd been given a chance last season instead of Michael Superstar Owen a couple of goals from our own local hero might have kept us up. Good post - as per usual. Wow...I must have really struck a nerve somewhere if you are trawling through my old posts for something to show me up. Nice one!

I don't suppose that decision was made by Hughton at all, but it's the right one. What makes you think Hughton didn't make that decision? You can't be suggesting that Lambias has any brains to think this up, considering all the evidence. If there's one thing Llambias & Ashley seem good at it's saying nowt. Hughton will have been told how this is going to be dealt with, no doubt about it. Of course there's a doubt about it. It all happened like this because your speculation is gospel truth? Give over man, you might not rate Hughton but at least wait until he gets something wrong before sticking the boot in. Who's sticking the boot in? Do you have any credible evidence that Hughton wasn't involved in making the decision? Only my knowledge of disciplinary hearings & the way they are managed within companies, which isn't evidence in itself obviously. If a member of staff has assaulted another and there is a potential claim/sacking/criminal charge in the offing, the procedure won't be being managed by someone who has specialist knowledge in coaching football rather than employment law. The whole thing will be being co-ordinated by someone who specialises in that field. The Keegan case will have taught them the cost of getting it right/wrong. Hughton may well have agreed with the decision, but it won't have been his to make. That's not sticking the boot into anyone. EDIT: Fwiw, I also said on here yesterday that if Carroll was available for selection then in my opinion Hughton should play him, so credit where it's due for that. Ok so basically if the incident is serious enough the matter is decided at a higher level? I hadn't realised that it was applied wrt football but if that's the case then fair enough. It would just seem strange the idea of the Man U chairman telling someone like Ferguson that one of his players was not to be considered in a similar situation.

Or if we have any sense he will remain on loan to Norwich in the championship, seems the most senisble solution. Good point. If we are going to sell a keeper I would rather it was Harper tbh and let Krul and Forster battle for the no 1 shirt for the next decade. Harper has been a steady servant to the club but these two are rising prospects and I wouldn't want to lose either and watch them become stars somewhere else.

I think Lovenkrands being fit will be the key for us. If we can put out our best 11 I reckon we'll win, if he's not fit a draw most likely. Forest are a decent side and they outplayed us at their ground. To beat them we need Jonas and Routledge on the wings with Lovenkrands and Carroll to provide the firepower. Then we will destroy them. -

Who gives a shit about Shay Given...seriously? Have we missed him? Does he miss us? The answer is no, he's now a loyal and devoted Manchester City player and as such can fuck off and rot in the north west as far as I am concerned. If he gets replaced by Buffoon all the better. We have better prospects coming through anyway.

No one really knows the full story yet, in the journal it's suggested that the row was over women and wages so I doubt Taylor was completely innocent in all this considering his antics when he wanted a bumper pay rise a year ago. Let the club sort it out, they'll have the best access to the full facts.

Damn good result that, weren't Doncaster 6 games unbeaten before tonight?
-
He has a tendency to hold the ball too long sometimes and ends up losing the ball because of it. Like Jonas he was frustrating as hell in the first half but got better and better towards the end. Some lovely skills as well.

Depends who the person is. While I would agree that watching the game live is very different there are all sorts of people who watch at the ground, some are knowledgeable, some are complete spastics. I haven't had a season ticket for about three years now but I don't think everyone at the ground watching has a better handle on a players's qualities than me if I've seen him play a few live games on Sky.
-
Incidentally, when I go to any live event, whether it's a rock concert or a football match, it's usually to enjoy it with everyone else at the place rather than disect each players contribution on the day. I can't imagine where LLO is watching the game from to be so analytical at St James.
-
Depends on who's got the ticket. I would disagree. The posters on this site who I have always respected have been the ones who made the most sense, I have no idea whether they were season ticket holders or not. If someone needs to bring the "soopafan" element into the debate it's usually because they don't want to debate the actual topic.

It's a couple of posts above yours I think I addressed these points a few pages back before you decided it was more important who was watching, when and how. So did you agree that it's easier to judge those things I've listed which he's particularly poor at inside the ground rather than on TV? Seems fairly obvious to me. No.
-
When you set further up the pitch you are leaving yourself open to a counter attack. So you need players who can run back to defend if you lose possession. Does that make sense?
