  1. I knew that answer was coming. I don't disagree in principle, what I would say is if he can do all that, than he should be our slow midifelder and others should make way. What I don't want is him walking around in the same side as Geremi, Cacapa, or Butt. At the moment there's a chronic lack of pace in the team through the midfield and attack and even poors sides like Hull and West ham are running rings round us.
  2. TBH, if he's not very mobile then he's not really the type of player we should have been looking at, even on a loan. Do we really need another slow moving midfielder?
  3. You have to keep pointing it out because from a financial perspective it doesnt back up the position you are taking. Debt is fine but no debt is better because debt has a cost, r. I wont go into the models for you. I'm sick of reading the opinions of people on finance and business who are not qualified to open their mouths on the subject. However, we all have a cross to bear Johnny. aye, the same old people still defending it, as we hurtle down towards where the Halls and Shepherd found us. You have to acknowledge at some point that Shepherd had stopped spending on the team, that's how Roeder had one of the weakest squads since the days of McKeag who you keep coming back to. At the point Ashley took over the well had run dry, the big money signings had put the club into significant debt with no return following Souness reign of terror, and Roeder's bumbling ineptness. There was no Europe, we were doing shit at that point. This isn't a defence of Ashley, btw, just bringing some perspective. comes back to a point also mentioned before though. You may think that Roeder was "inept" or whatever, but if you want to compare the 2 regimes ie McKeag etc and Shepherd/Hall etc, then where we were under Roeder was deemed success [not shit] under the McKeags and his cronies. Thats also a perspective. Understand ? Its called "higher expectation", which I've mentioned in the Shepherds Legacy thread, as well as other threads in the past. If you just want to pick selective periods to support your POV, then I would say that the most successful period we had was when SJH was the Chairman. As soon as Shepherd took the reigns, the rot set in. Under Hall we went from being 2nd in the league to struggling against relegation due to Shepherd's tenure. This is also an undeniable fact.
  4. We'd have been better off playing Chelseas or Liverpools where the reurn would have been meagre anyway. I'd much rather be playing some of these teams with a full strength squad later in the season. We've already dropped points to some pretty mediocre sides through having so many injuries.

  6. It just needs some players with some balls tbh. Amr Zaki can't speak a word of English but him and a couple of the other new Wigan signings ran City into the ground yesterday.

It's in today's chronicle. Bacon sarnies and a walk a long the beach Friday, A nice lie down and leisurely surrender on Saturday, and another day off today. Talk about a long weekend.
  8. Let's just hope the next lot are going to show us we were right to chase him out.
  9. This is the biggest problem with new managers, it takes at least a month for the penny to drop that Duff is a gutless, hide n' seek con artist waiting for the next friendly against Hartlepool before he gets into the opposition penalty area.

They've had today off as well. I'm surprised they bothered to turn up on Saturday to be honest. Oh wait...
  11. me too, with the condition that their chosen manager isnt a complete pillock Well that goes without saying. All I mean is that whilst a multi-billionaire willing to pump in hundreds of millions would perhaps be nice, all I'm after deep down is a return to normality. To me that is the manager having total control of his squad, regardless of the transfer budget. I'll not be up in arms if the new owner says there's not so much to spend (ie spending within our means), as long as everyone knows who is in charge of spending it. Best steer clear of Keegan unless they are prepared to back him with big money. KK wouldn't be happy wheeling and dealing to get players in, he'd need significant funds otherwise no chance of him contemplating coming back IMO.
  12. I guess your unaware that the Vice President (Player Recruitment) does the contracts. Also Keegan does not have the power to sign McGeady but he is responsible for the sale of Faye.` Whatever. I think it's been made more than clear by now that Keegan did absolutely NOTHING wrong and was right to walk out on the club, while Dennis Wise was recruited to single handedly cause the destruction of Newcastle United. Or something like that................. the longer this mess drags on, the less I blame Keegan for walking out. Why on earth do you think he should stick around when he's told that Denis Wise is choosing who to buy and sell ? They made him sell Milner to get money in, and didn't even let him decide who to buy with the money. I still think that Taylor and zoggy are 2 players who need to play in better teams alongside better players. Taylor will become more assured and Zoggy in particular sees things, and moves more quickly than too many of his team mates. Higher standards to reach for is what they both need. Don't agree about Taylor, but I think you might have a point regarding Zog. He overdoes the dribbling at the moment, but with so little movement around him, there aren't many options other than pass backwards or sideways. Well, time will tell. Some people think zoggy has not improved, and some people slate him for "not being committed". I couldn't disagree more. If good players are unhappy, its up to the club to make them happy. If they are unhappy with the club and want to play for "better" clubs, then my take on this is that they should not view Newcastle this way, so we should find out why the feel this way and do something about it. He's too quick for most of his team mates, both in his view of the game, and his movement of the ball. his movement of the ball and off the ball has been poor for a long time and his view ?............come off it,even when he was playing well his main problem was often dribbling up blind alleys when he had had options prior. I don't see many options for any of our midfielders tbf. There's not a load of movement in the mdfield, and less up front. Guthrie apart most of our midfielders stop running as soon as they have passed the ball, so unless you want to pass backwards, it's easy to get caught in the trap of over-dribbling.

    Amr Zaki

Zaki is like a young Alan Shearer in his Southampton days. The one we got didn't have quite the same running in him after two bad injuries.

    Amr Zaki

Said this in the weekend matches thread, what stood out for me was the sheer amount of running he put in. Jonas isn't bad for us, but our players are so pedestrian in comparison. Wigan aren't particularly skilful side, but their attitude is 150% better than our players who are on probably twice the wages.
  16. do you know what for yet? A membership card, a bumper sticker and a signed birthday card off Biffa from .com apparently. And a free pastie from Greggs and pint from the Irish Centre. (Joking before anyone starts) The pastie and the pint wouldn't be free though. The profits would go towards the evil shareholders of Greggs and the Irish Bar instead of being ploughed back into the football club.
  17. That's what I was thinking. Like Shearer in his early days at Southampton when he was virtually unstoppable. His running put our lot to shame.

    Steven Taylor

My only concern with Colo is that he's not as strong in the air as he could be. Otherwise, defensively he looks pretty solid. Taylor should be the dominant CB alongside him, but he's not great either. This is why people would have liked to see Faye alongside Colo IMO.
  19. Just been watching Goals on Sunday and Don Hutchison saying he thought this would have been an ideal situation for Shearer to step in and steady the ship. Does anyone think Shearer would have took it, because I don't, despite the fact that HE loves the club, or so we're led to believe. Kinnear might or might not be a good manager but he's clearly over the moon to have the job even for few games. He deserves some support just for that.
  20. Hes a young player adapting to this country and league, a YOUNG player, f***ing give him a chance you annoying little charva. PS: Before you try, f*** off with your "how many games do you go to, because me dad pays me into this many games a season" s****. Dead right. The circumstances he came here under and Keegan walking the next day have given this kid a really difficult start. Under normal circumstances in a new country, new club, foreign language etc he should have been nowhere near the first team. Of course he's out of his depth right now but he's showing willing, grafting his pods off and for that he deserves credit. He's doing more for the NUFC cause right now than some of those who apparently "love" the club but now want nothing to do with it. This is something I've felt as well. When you hear senior players complaing they haven't been consulted over what's going on yet you look at them every week strolling around the pitch trying to avoid the ball it doesn get on your wick after a while.
  21. I've lived all my life in Newcastle but actually find some of the foreign posters here can usually write interesting stuff. Raconteur is from Oz I think, and the dutch lad who's always on a downer, Unbelievable his argumentative stance is always a good read.
  22. After all the negative publicity, isn't it great when you hear your club being talked about in positive terms...and from someone you respect above most others in the game?
  23. If we didn't need Beye at right back, I'd put him at CB alongside Colo like a shot. Bassong has done well, but Beye takes no prisoners, and unlike Taylor knows how to defend.
