I thought we'd brought in three new players with a fourth having left his club on route to Newcastle. Keegan showed what a difference he can make over what we were served up under Allardyce and he's had a pre-season to work with the players, even if he can't play them. I think we'll be at least 10 points better off just by having Keegan picking the team and the two Argies should go some way to adding to our points total. I'd like to see at least two more quality players coming in because we need a bit of class in the middle and we have potential injury problems up front. If we can get the quality we need then we can have a very good season.

I'm not bothered where Smith has played for us, he's only played 1 decent game that I can think of. Players can score from midfield and defence, even Des Hamilton scored more goals for us that Smith has. He's done nothing wrong off the pitch and I don't think anybody has ever said anything other than that but he's paid for what he does during the game. I can't think of a worse forward that we've had at this club since Ian Rush came here under Dalglish, at least Rush managed a couple of goals. As for naming a replacement, pointless as I couldn't prove that they'd come here or were available, I would say that as far as our forwards go, Smith would be my last choice, I'd probably rather play Harper up front than Smith, he's that bad.

The FA will be concerned that he might be influenced by financial problems to take a bung or bet on the outcome of a game, not that I'm saying he'd do anything dodgy but they'll have to be seen to act.

I'm not trying to be funny here but how much of problem is it to replace a forward who hasn't scored a goal and you could probably count the number of shots he's had on one hand and still have fingers to spare?

I don't think anything in that article is new, we were virtually told this when he set up his charity. I think his charity just shows what a legend he is rather than what he's done in football. He was diagnosed with cancer for a 5th time and was told that this one was the one that would take him out. Did he go into fits of depression? Did he shite, he thought about how he could do even more for a region that he loves and he's left a legacy which will go on and save lives after he's gone. It is sad what is happening to him but even in his condition, he’s making something positive out of it. No self pity from him, just a sense that he’s enjoyed his life and will take as much as possible out of his last days while giving something back to the community. I don’t use “legend” too often but in this case, it just seems the best way to describe him, I can’t think of another superlative to use to sum him up. Sir Bobby managed the club with dignity and in return was treated like shite by some, I hope they are ashamed of that, they should be.
