They pushed the BJ sale into this year to maximise the value, but this has tripped them up FFP wise. Look at their net spend over the summer https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/nottingham-forest/transfers/verein/703 If they now look like tripping the FFP regs again this year, and feel that there is at least a 50% of a points deduction (and almost certain relegation) they may look to cash out on MGW now if there is a serious buyer. £40m is a lot of cash for them now, if they go down and trigger a FFP breach the vultures will circle so they may feel that is peak value.

Just one minor point, the Wood Sale completed in this financial year so we won't have accrued anything in last years accounts so if we did buy MGW now they would both be in the same year

Miguel Almirón (now playing for Atlanta United)

interesting as the accounts don’t make disclosures about a number of lines that may influence the FFP disclosures so it’s pretty much guesswork as to how close we are. -
Players you were certain would be world class?
Colos Short and Curlies replied to Mike's topic in Football
Again not world class but up until his debut Freddie Woodman. seemed to have everything a keeper needed in youth teams (including England) but nothing translated to first team football. Obviously made a career in the championship but thought he’d do much more. -
Kieran Trippier (now playing for Wolves)

after what happened when he moved to Madrid his friends will 100% be clued up here… (just pulling your leg) -

if there is any pull at all for him wanting/needing to be away then there is sense to get a few quid in for him seeing as we have his replacement here with probably the least pressurised half a season we’re going to have for a while and krafth as an able deputy. Hasn’t Ashby returned as well from Swansea?. it might not be mega bucks but it may also give us enough to bring in a midfielder on loan to fill a real gap. its nowhere near ideal, but it could give some benefit. bigger question for me is who become a captain? Assume it will be Burn but I’d love to see El Capitan Bruno -

we could do the same with Longstaff. Keep Trips but to have a genuine battle with Tino for the number 2 slot next season before yielding in 2025 to being backup and use the longstaff cash to beef up centre mid and right wing -
The best thing Onana has been involved in is Shearers entry for worst Dad joke of the year
-
Ekitikes himself is still out there But Wilson may walk away for nothing next summer, it makes FFP sense to bank £10m for him now which gives us £40-£50m to spend on his replacement in the FFP world

Javier Manquillo (now playing for Celta de Vigo)

I don't think playing left back at the start of his time here helped. He always looked a better player on the right -
(a) would that be disallowed for handball these days? (b) I'd love to see Pickford's reaction in berating his defence if he had made that mistake

This time last season Miley wasn't on anyone's radar as a first team option. We have 18 months to sort it out
-
And that was only a problem because the squad of non home grown players we have wasn't strong enough for the competition. I know we are poles apart but Man City only registered 21 players.
-
We've essentially replaced him with Miley. It won't be an issue next year, even if we make EC or EL I'd be happy to pad the bench with kids, you're then hoping that 1 or 2 step up enough to sit on the bench in the CL for 2025/2026. Its more important to get a good core of 20, regardless of home grown than to limit that number for sake of one homegrown player

£25-£30m for Longstaff with Tonali coming back and possibly Ederson (or similar) coming in for £35m makes more sense to me than selling Bruno for £80m (or even £100m). £5m for Big JL gives us £25m of FFP wiggle room now, a combination of Schar/Botman/Burn/Krafth/PaullyD should get us through to the summer, I'd only sell if the cash is to be used now however.
-
For the British players they would automatically revert back to being a UK domiciled individual and then any income they earn from abroad gets taxed in the UK. It may not be a factor however as they've been over there for so little time that their income may have been taxed anyway (but I'm sure they've got expensive accountants to work that out). It's also been claimed that they may get back tax on wages earned so far, I don't think that would be the case so it would just be anything earned whilst back in the UK. Foreign players wouldn't have this issue with the UK tax man.

So based on that its £50m coming in without damaging the first team. Rather that than selling Big Joe for £60m or Bruno for £100m and needing to replace them as well as improving the rest of the squad.

Financial Fair Play / Profit & Sustainability

If the PL had got themselves in order and dealt with the first breach then Everton would have been relegated last year. Should they compound their tardiness by delaying dealing with the current breach? Also remember that a large part of the original breach was them taking the piss with Covid losses, so this is an endemic issue with them and not just a one off (like Forest). Throw the book at them in one year I say -

Every club has the same accounting period and there is no reason why the Premier League cannot mandate that accounts are filed with them within 90 days (or lets just say 30th September). They can also mandate certain accounting rules to be followed where there is usually discretion. With these accounts clubs need to submit a forecast for the season based on any known increases to TV money, competitions you are in, sponsorship deals coming into play and player trading in the summer transfer window You can then base FFP calcs on the the season just gone, the season before and the current season with a weighting of say (using 2022/2023 as the reference point) 20% 2021/2022, 50% 2022/2023, 30% 2023/2024. So that allows for scenarios such as qualifying for the Champions League, holding out for a better price on player sales etc. whilst still maintaining a degree of control to stop excessive spending. Lots to work out in the middle for what the FFP calculations cover but this would be a start for reform imo. You could also then set deadlines within the season for charges and decisions to be made for breaches in a realistic timeframe. Basically any naughty behaviour should be dealt with by Christmas -
Its good but Tindall would be partnering Eddie at the back
-
Because what we spend from the 1st July 2024 goes into the accounts for the year to 30th June 2025 (i.e. 2024/2025) which is what next seasons totals include. Its a retrospective use of accounts in FFP

you’d recognise the prize money and to money in the season that it is earned. The financial year ends after the season does so it fits in nicely. ignore when you get the cash, it’s when you earn it that’s important. Same with tv money, whatever the final amount is for the season gets recognised then. -

Principle I agree with, however isn't City's case a tad more complicated in that its not whether they breached profit/loss type rules but more whether the income is 'real' and that they have included everything in the clubs books? They have had long enough to at least get a hearing date sorted on it mind -

I don't know, if we are going to have FFP then points deductions for breaches are the only punishment you can give. Fines - if a rich club is going to breach the regs then a fine is no problem to them Transfer ban - running the risk of a club just buying knowing that this will happen and acting accordingly so a couple of years without buying doesn't matter.
