  1. for so called free kick specialists their goal records are absolutely abysmal! Emre hasn't scored for a year and his set pieces are woeful IMO, he rarely get the ball past the first man!
  2. yeah he's of similar height to Martins so we'd have a midget striker force
  3. rather have a player that has some sort of motivation to be here mind, Kerzhakov has no interest at all by the sounds of it
  4. Newcastle United have lodged a 2.5 million euro (£1.7 million) bid with Zenit St. Petersburg for striker Alexander Kerzhakov, according to a spokesman from the Russian club. The Magpies face competition from several other clubs around Europe, including Sevilla, though the UEFA Cup holders' offer has already been labelled “unacceptable.” “Newcastle have offered 2.5 million euros and a couple of French clubs have tabled similar offers,” Zenit spokesman Alexei Petrov told Spanish news agency Efe. But Petrov insisted that Glenn Roeder's side would need to increase their offer to get their man, commenting: “The club is not prepared to sell a player of the quality of Kerzhakov for 2,5 million euros. The negotiations are not closed, but we won't sell Kerzhakov for four roubles.” The Magpies have seen their front line decimated by injuries this season, and have scored a mere nine goals in their 13 Premiership games so far. Kerzhakov is thought to be keen for a move, and has already stated his desire for a move to Sevilla after hearing of the Spanish club's interest. “My contract with Zenit ends next December, and if Sevilla's offer still stands, then I'll take it. In my free time I'm already studying Spanish.” http://www.eurosport.com/football/premiership/2006-2007/sport_sto1025969.shtml
  5. Bank on Baba "Since I took over in February Celestine Babayaro's performances have been very good. "In fact, I would go as far as to say that he has probably been our most consistent player in this time. "But one of our problems is getting him to play two games in a row, and it is now vital to us that he stays fit. "He went with us to Germany last week, and while he was not ready to play against Eintracht Frankfurt in the UEFA Cup, he has trained well since then." good work, keep it going
  7. I am currently studying for my Doctrate in Physics. Nothing against Shearer, but I disagree with the total concept of honourary degrees. People like myself and many others graft their arses off schooling for years and years whilst these guys become world superstars, then when they finish they get a degree or doctrate for doing bot all. Poor. totally agree. Didn't McLaren get something similar from the Smoggie Uni as well?
  8. what about the likes of Ivan Klasnic (Werder Bremen)? He's being linked with Man City atm .....he's scored alot of goals for Bremen over the years both in the domestic league and Champs League and is 26....so I'm sure he could do well for us. What do you think? Baptista is also a bit unhappy with the lack of chances he's getting and I would like to see him here but whether he''d prefer to go back to Spain is another question
  9. because EPL teams normally sign the $hit ones, the cream go to Spain and Italy. Anyway, I can see Alves going to PSV at the end of the season to replace Jefferson Farfán who will no doubt move. On a side note I can remember us being linked with him when he was playing for his former club in Sweden but that didn't come to fruition......not that we could get a work permit for him then or now even
  10. have to agree with most of the views in the thread, I think we expected better from the so called 'Turkish Maradona'
  11. Aye, it will be pretty quiet on Saturday wont it tongue.gif From what I could tell from the tele, and have seen on youtube before (the "pippi longstocking jumping song"), the frankfurt fans make some incredible noise Here's the clip, check out the state of the stand towards the end of the 2nd clip ...(assume I can post this as there's no football footage/not EPL?) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aroU9Z4K9js&mode=related&search= http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=38Zy7Olydus&mode=related&search= on a side note not only is the EPL overrated but so is the so called 'great atmosphere' that EPL fans supposedly generate IMO
  12. fortunately they didn't have a recognised goalscorer in their team or we might have got a hammering had they taken their chances. Their best player (Meier) was suspended for this one too which helped nicely
  13. nah. this is the funniest post "gemmill - you sound like the kind of guy who likes to put his finger up his own bum, then lick the filthly digit so give himself a cheap thrill......." . http://www.newcastle-online.com/nufcforum/index.php/topic,32767.msg624807.html#msg624807
  14. Aye but did he actually commentate, or has he, in 2004 or whenever sat with a video clip and a microphone and pretended to be there? Thats the way it comes across like. Worst offenders for that are Eurosport who didnt even exist pre-1990 yet have the same bloke who voiceovers Eurogoals commentating "live" on games from 1974 world cup etc. Also sometimes will slip from voiceovering (a word?!) to commentary during eurogoals. Terrible aye true that....then there's that American bloke who does (did) the quick highlights on eurosport 2 of the football.....absolutely horrendous attempts at trying to pronounce players' names/teams...damn yanks
  15. has Zoggy been officially ruled out? read he's just a doubt. Not that I would risk him anyway, would like to see O'Brien on the left
  16. Not really tbh agreed......there are more 'leader' type players in the Atletico team IMO but Torres being a through and through Atletico Madrid fan certainly helped him in that respect
  17. not to mention a cheating little diver as well
  18. Well done Clarkie for giving that t!t Lawrenson a deserved slating
  19. re: shyte commentary: turn the sound down and put the radio on, not rocket science
  20. Henry is living off reputation at the moment imo, hasnt played anything like as well as he can for a long while. Seems to have lost alot of hunger/motivation. he chokes on the big occasion too, ie: Champions League final, World Cup final etc.
  21. bet he's not as good as our ex Lens player
  22. hence why I said 'usually' .......they couldn't have given it to Zizou after what had happened, of course France Football will probably give him the European player of the year (not that they're biased or nowt, j/k) Don't remember the last time a defender won the award? The likes of Maldini and Baresi should have won at some point
