  3. Milan 'would love to sign Carroll' The son of Milan President Silvio Berlusconi has said he “would love to sign Andy Carroll” for a new, younger team. The Rossoneri have released veterans such as Alessandro Nesta, Gennaro Gattuso, Clarence Seedorf, Pippo Inzaghi, Gianluca Zambrotta and Mark Van Bommel, aiming to lower the average age of the squad. “This is another Milan, a younger Milan, and it’s right every now and then to change and start a new project,” said Piersilvio Berlusconi in the Corriere dello Sport. “Who would I like to see at Milan? Well it’s too obvious to say Andres Iniesta, so let’s just say I was impressed with the physicality of England striker Carroll. I would love to sign him.” http://www.football-italia.net/20734/milan-would-love-sign-carroll

  5. NEWCASTLE’S HATEM BEN ARFA AND MANCHESTER CITY’S SAMIR NASRI IN FRANCE BUST-UP Hatem Ben Arfa and Samir Nasri were among the players involved in an alleged bust-up in France’s dressing room following their defeat to Sweden. Newcastle star Ben Arfa reportedly told France boss Laurent Blanc to send him home after he was substituted in the Sweden game. He angered Blanc when the team returned to the dressing room to find him chatting on the phone to his family. The 25-year-old told Blanc he should not have been subbed because there were players “who were worse” than him. That prompted Samir Nasri to get involved in the row. The Manchester City midfielder then fell out with Alou Diarra over the Marseille man’s comment that many players’ performances were so poor that they were “not normal”. Chelsea’s Florent Malouda told the French media that the scene reminded him of the squad’s 2010 World Cup meltdown. He said: “What I saw awakened some demons in me.”

  9. 1. What are your memories of growing up in Senegal? I grew up in Dakar (the capital). It's a thriving city but poor. I started playing football when I was little. We didn't have boots when we were young. 2. How did you end up moving to Europe? I played at the Generation Foot Academy and then with AS Douanes in the Senegal Premier League. I did well enough there to be taken to Metz in 2005. 3. You later played in Germany with Freiburg. What is the difference between the Bundesliga and Premier League? They are not that different. There is maybe more overseas talent in England. 4. Had you heard of Newcastle United? When did you first learn about the club? I knew about them before I left Senegal. They were in the Champions League and the UEFA Cup when I was at Metz. 5. How different is Newcastle to other places you have lived? Newcastle is interesting. I like all the bridges along the river. The best thing is how friendly the people are. That's important to me. 6. You played in the Tyne-Wear derby. What is your experience of derbies? Stuttgart, Munich and Hoffenheim were closest to Freiburg, so they were rivals, but nothing like Newcastle and Sunderland! 7. Had you been told about the importance of the game against Sunderland? My team-mates drummed into me what it means to the club and supporters. It is the biggest game of the season. 8. Your strike partner Demba Ba has done very well at Newcastle. What are his main strengths? He is strong, has pace, can shoot with both feet, is good in the air. He is great to have on your team. 9. The No 9 shirt is very special at Newcastle. Do you understand its importance? Yes, I do. I have been told all about Alan Shearer and all the others. I know how privileged I am to be wearing it. http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/football/article-2139299/Papiss-Cisse-Nine-questions-Newcastles-new-No-9.html

  13. PSG prepare for Gameiro sale Lille are reportedly keen on signing Paris Saint-Germain striker Kevin Gameiro, who has previously been linked with a move to the Premeier League. The striker, who last year was linked with both Arsenal, Tottenham, Sunderland and Newcastle, joined PSG last summer from Lorient in a deal worth an initial €11million. Gameiro signed a four-year deal at the Parc des Princes, but is expected to be left on the sidelines as coach Carlo Ancelotti looks to bring in two top strikers this summer. The likes of Fernando Torres, Luis Suarez, Gonzalo Higuain and Alexandre Pato are all on Ancelotti's radar and, according to L’Equipe, the possible availability of Gameiro has led to interest from Lille. Whether there is still interest from the Premier League remains to be seen, but Gameiro was believed to be open to a move to England before he completed his transfer to PSG.

  15. He's the second-best left back I've ever seen in the flesh. Ridiculous work rate, never stops running. Not the best defensively but he'd be great linking up with Jonas and exploiting the wide areas. 2nd after LYP? ...sounds a bit like Lee Young Pyo from his PSV Eindhoven days

    World XI

Van der Wiel RB and Modric CM? Just makes me sick seeing De Jong there. Also Caceres is FB? Move him to right and insert any Dutch CB. Caceres has played full back and centre back for Uruguay and at Sevilla/Villareal before. Dutch centre backs? They're pap (well average at best) these days....From the last squad, I don't particularly rate any of them Mathijsen, Boulerouz and Heitinga are average. Bruma looks a good prospect though..... the LB Pieters is out for the season....blessing in disguise tbh for us (we can get better). He's average too....just they have no one any better amongst a poor selection of defenders.
  19. I remember reading Keegan used to do the same.....wanted to buy players with the right character and attitude etc.....i think most worked out and Ginola loved the area (it was only the appointment of Dogleash that got rid of him)
  20. Agreed. good player but a bit injury prone....no for me

  22. Mevlut Erdinc (not that keen on him at the time but desperate for a striker) Kevin Doyle (as above) Ewerthon (as above and free, after selling Carroll) Curtis Davies (back in his West Brom days) Olivier Kapo (Auxerre and Juve times) I remember the clamour for Erik Huseklepp and Per Ciljan Skjelbred on here too
  23. I heard the extremely unlucky story of this guy a few years ago: both his parents had died when he was a teen, in 2001 the mother and in 2003 the father. The brother, disabled, committed suicide in 2004 and Piermario had one more sister, also disabled. The tragedy is complete now, after Piermario has died today during the game Pescara-Livorno. RIP
  24. Aye only Milan's 2nd greatest ever goalscorer....just 175 goals in 296 games. Him and Rebrov absolutely tore Barca apart that season (well along with wor Tino of course) in the Champions League (0-4 in the Nou Camp) with a Sheva hattrick. I also remember back in the day us being linked with him in the Chronicle (dont have that link but other papers took it up as below) http://www.highbeam.com/doc/1G1-61140269.html
  25. Alejandro Faurlin......looks a very good player on the ball....perhaps a decent option if Guthrie leaves. Another Argie to join Jonas and Colo
