  1. I remember when Chelsea got Gullit, Zola and Vialli all on frees when the Bosman ruling was still shaking out. Pretty sure it was before the Abramovich takeover too. Before that they were trash, with the likes of Dennis Wise and Mark Stein their stars...
  2. Good steer - love watching anything to do with him. And any excuse to watch this again. "Oh, Socrates!" https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Vkq4fVKzibY
  3. I’ve discovered that the programming directors at Optus Sports (Australia) are Sunderland fans - they are running “club days” during the Coronavirus period, and today is Newcastle United day. A whole day of Toon programming! Except the first match was the 1-0 win over Chelsea from this season, followed by Alan Pardew’s first match as Toon boss (against Liverpool). We were fucking awful for both of those games. Surely it wouldn’t be too hard to pick ten better wins in the PL era to feature than those two.
  4. Didn't you already win that award under your old identity?
  5. well if he understood the difference between the offer in Euros and what Mike wanted in pounds. He was sacked not long after. Sure you're not thinking of Llambias? It was definitely Kinnear that sold Cabaye - and the story goes MIke sacked him for getting £20m when he could/should have got £25m+
  6. Is that four separate ass-licking stories in the same edition of the paper?!? Just taking the piss, aren't they?

Did Odin do the Photoshopping for you?
  8. That's solutions-based thinking
  9. Read somewhere that Ronaldinho "doesn't understand" why he's been arrested - the news story was accompanied by a pic of the Dinho's goofiest grin. I've heard of footballers being divorced from reality in some daft ways, but this seems to be a special case...
  10. We literally won yesterday due to VAR. Both of the "key" decisions initially went against us - as we have seen for decades - but were reversed after VAR. It's a deeply flawed system, just seems an odd time to criticise it
  11. Shelvey was gassed after seven minutes when he literally ran as fast as I’ve ever seen him move to keep the ball in and cross it for Gayle to fuck up. I’ve never seen him move above a trot before - and he was clearly finished before the game had really started.
  12. Coming soon to The Chron: How ace manager Steve Bruce convinced Ashley to sign Toon legends Shelvey and Ritchie
  13. Absurd decision. Meanwhile, Manquillo will no doubt be released.
  14. Not reading the comments is self-care.
  15. No he called Hope out for the liar he is. Hope backed down completely. Gutter press. How did he back down? He said he hadn’t used the term “bust up” and then asked if Bruce was calling him a liar. Steve Bruce’s honesty is a strange hill to die on Thought it was handbags personally, seemed to come down to a semantic issue between "bust up" and "row". But fuck Steve Bruce
  16. At a club that wanted to progress, sure. But at a zombie club with three right backs on the books already? Yedlin and Krafth next year it is
  17. If he's coming in from the right, he could still probably do it against Danny Rose... Ings to do the damage, another in a long line of players we could/should have signed but failed because we're shite.
  18. Story posted on Australian football website The World Game: https://theworldgame.sbs.com.au/the-only-conversation-was-in-australia-benitez-slams-ronaldo-free-kick-lies?fbclid=IwAR2kQmgaltMIzJmdRsOmokUlSvg9mDCvtKa2Bcwuuv38kO1TkZdVUNzrI1E
  19. I remember brummie saying exactly this when Brewcie was appointed
  20. Didn’t Bruce do that with the Dutch lad first game of the season home to Arsenal? From memory Bruce didn’t tell his left back that he was being subbed on to play in centre midfield.
  21. Was thinking exactly this - just boot up FM and it’s all good, Alan. Clearly he’s embracing and celebrating his ignorance.
  22. This. The most interesting thing for me is whether Gayle can compete with guys he trained against last season. And that’s not very interesting at all...
  23. Almiron's turn on the halfway line to beat two players with one touch was more than most of our players have done all season.
