Carling Cup 2nd Round - Newcastle vs Barnsley (29/08/07)
Baron von Fat replied to a topic in Football
Great to see Emre back. I think Sam's system will suit him. -
The worst thing about this is that it trivializes the fact that there is real bigotry and racism among some Newcastle supporters that goes far beyond what was sung at Mido. Now we can all say "hey it's just football and a bit of a laugh, no big deal," while there are deeper and more insidious roots that go unmentioned.

Mackems, Spurs, Man Utd, Chelsea, Man City

Osman for Premiership top scorer

Hilarious stuff. Why is it so easy to wish defeat on Spurs?
-
He must be absolutely amazing in training to have survived this long. In fact, I think a couple of past managers have said as much. Wasn't he seeing a sports psychologist to try and translate his training performances into matches?

Shot 9 times during the European Cup Final too btw. Fu<k forgot that one. ahh the nostalgia...

Niggers you say? Sorry I meant naggers. Actually hurt myself laughing first time I saw that, a moment of pure television genius. Just watched it - Caused an awkward loud laughing moment here in my office...

If we lose at Bolton and Boro and fail to beat Villa, it is a nailed on certainty that this forum will be an angry mob, and that a few predictable posters will blame Mike Ashley and Chris Mort.

Wow, just wow. Wish I knew more about him.

Dave is in fine form - editing topic titles in under 3 minutes! I've always rated Dede, but haven't seen much of him for the past two years.

In situations like this where there is a large contingent dead set against a signing, I always really root for that player to prove everyone wrong. I guess I like underdogs. A good example is when we got Craig Bellamy when everyone wanted Francis Jeffers. Sadly, this doesn't always come true. Good luck Alan.

I understand that these early reports are wide of the mark.
-
I hope you are preparing to elaborate on this, as I imagine you'll be called to do so in short order.

Playing for the shirt is a completely antiquated notion. You'd be lucky to have one or two players in any top premiership first XI that fit the description.

This is already comedy gold and I will not lock it.
-
I'm not at all convinced by this story, BBC or not.

because it is funny, im laughing at him being such a loser, and im laughing with the person that put it on because he obviously wants to humiliate the yokel! I hate you.

I really think I might be a better footballer than Pattison. I wish you all knew how ridiculous that is. -
The "If he's that good, why isn't he at __________?" theory is my biggest pet peeve argument in all of football.* There are so many reasons why players go to one lub or another. They tend to find their level eventually, but not every move is indicative of that. That being said, I don't know anything about Anderson, and for that reason probably shouldn't have posted in this thread. I blame Gejon. *My 2nd place pet peeve is "Apart from all the goals he scores, he's worthless."

I don't understand when a story claims a player has "said" something, but doesn't include any quotes. Did he say it via telepathy with the reporter?

One of the biggest issues is the difficulty in getting public funding for stadium construction. Most cities mandate that any use of taxpayer dollars for a private venture of that size has to be a approved by a a public or local congressional vote. For the last decade the trend is that these votes are rejected, or funding is severely limited. So the ownership groups pay the full amount themselves, and the lure of a big check from a naming rights sponsor upfront is a very tempting way to get a quick chunk of your investment back immediately.
