I’d definitely give him a chance, especially with option rather than obligation to buy. He has technical quality and retains the ball really well. Can also press. Can’t see training with Pep every week will have made him worse, even if his match fitness might be a bit off. Personally not convinced the link is anything other than journo chat, but maybe.

If rather replace Longstaff than get another Longstaff

On Hall, surely we want to sign him, he’s a highly rated young player who it looks like we got a good deal on. I think because some young players have come on surprisingly well this season it’s tempting to think that all of them should be held to the same standard.

True, but I’m sure that will happen soon. There was always a limit to the number of players we would sign in the time since the takeover.

We're at the exact Dan Ashworth stage of our development, a similar stage to England and Brighton when he began there. Shite infrastructure, no real team in place, everything needs to be built from the ground up. Feels like the worst time for him to leave, not that I think he will.

It's a double-edged sword for Howe at the moment though, the same injuries that mean we can't press every minute also mean we haven't had the technical players available to control possession. Not sure we have the technical players in the squad TBH. Also, it's extremely difficult to find time to coach the squad in two or more different ways of playing while having three games a week plus travel.
