Sergei Rebrov launches repulsive racist rant
AyeDubbleYoo replied to The College Dropout's topic in Football
Think you might be missing the point - it's the bit where he follows it up by saying "so naturally there is a lot of crime" that does the job! -
Emotional attachment to Keegan could prove catastrophic to the club?
AyeDubbleYoo replied to Jamie87's topic in Football
You're right, even if this mess hadn't ended with Keegan walking away, I couldn't see him being here more than a couple of years - so he was never the long term answer. -
Pleased to hear it, as long as that means getting behind the manager as well. Hopefully everyone else in SJP agrees with us.

Does anyone out there have any kind of confidence in Ashley at all?
AyeDubbleYoo replied to a topic in Football
True, but then aren't rich companies usually successful companies, meaning they are already making a return for the people in charge so they are less likely to want to sell? -
This is exactly what I've been thinking. Glad you've been honest about it. Aye.
-
Good man. Pie and a pint at half time? Some merchandise in Sports Direct before the game?
-
I'm just hoping that the upside of some people's reactionary attitudes and short term thinking is that they will be caught up in the excitement of a new boss, and therefore get behind the team.
-
Firstly, that's out of order. (I only post beautifully argued prose - you know that). Secondly, of course I saw Dennis Wise play and I thought he was an odious little cock. I've said as much on here many times. It's just I have the braincells to separate personal dislike of him as a player from how he is doing in his current job.
-
I agree with that whole post Chez, the only thing I can't see is any reason for the hatred towards Dennis Wise either. He was to blame for Keegan going and people have the right to express anger and protest at those to blame. Plus he's replaceable and it would appease many fans. You cant just demand that someone fucks about with 250m worth of their money especially as they have invested personal wealth into the debt scenario for the long term good of his investment. I agree getting rid of him would 'appease many fans', but it doesn't necessarily follow that he is to blame and/or getting rid of him would be the right decision for the club. Let's all admit this, we don't know that he was to blame for Keegan going at all.

This summers influx of south american/spanish speakers is maybe a hint as to where they may be directing their search for a new man. I have a feeling your fears will be realised. Argh! Seriously though, a lot of clubs have used the theory of buying enclaves of particular language speakers or nationalities... I don't think it is a bad thing generally. Except if it leads to Gus Poyet being our manager of course.

Aye, if we bring in Poyet my Ashley defending will be pretty much impossible!
-
No not really. I think most people know that his attitude certainly added to the problem. He generally gets the benfit of any doubt though. Just up to people to decide whether he has earned that right. Its just about who was trying to do things in the best interests of the club. We have to hope that they all were but there was a clash over the way they went about it. Most people would assume that Keegan always does things with the fans and the team in mind. People are waiting for Ashley and his guys to prove they do likewise. I just about believe that, I mean Keegan has done so much for this club that it seems impossible to doubt him. But we know very well that he isn't immune to ego, emotions and mood swings - in any disputes with the board all of these things would have come into play.

Not true, we have failed/are failing to reach our potential. When clubs like Portsmouth and Blackburn are regularly finishing higher up the league there is a fundamental problem with the way we are being run. Yeah, but that's not because of the current regime. We had reached a lower position than ever before (in recent times) long before Ashley turned up. They could only work with the position we were in. Getting back to the top is going to take time... I think they have taken us in the right direction so far. We were never going to end up better off than Portsmouth and chums in a year after nearly getting relegated.

I don't want to use this thread to go through all of those points again, as it's obvious people just have opposite viewpoints on a lot of that - both based on a lot of speculation and not a lot of fact. All I'm saying is that the overly-dramatic reaction to what has happened this week has a lot to do with what has gone before... Souness, Allardyce, our decline over recent seasons. Why else would anyone mention the last 10 years? As far as I'm concerned that has nothing to do with what is happening now. What in that list isn't fact, apart from the unknown amount of "force" behind Keegan's resignation? As I said, I don't want to use this thread to go through all of those points yet again. People have different opinions on them. As an example, I don't think we failed in the transfer market this summer - I think the squad is better than it was before.

I know, I don't think Dennis Wise is as much to do with this mess as everyone seems to have assumed though. Just because he has the 'Executive Director (Football)' title he is getting the blame. Wise is in charge of Jimenez, Vetere, and the coaches, and reports directly to Llambias, it's quite clear: http://www.nufc.premiumtv.co.uk/page/NewsDetail/0,,10278~1227633,00.html He is clearly the one in ultimate charge of deciding who we sign and who we sell. If he chose to sign a player the manager specifically said he didn't want, which is Keegan's claim, then he is the person most responsible on the club's side for the consequences. Well, he might be above him in the structure, but I don't think that means he micro-manages what they do on a day-to-day basis. I doubt Jimenez and Vetere would have signed up to just be Dennis Wise's lackies, they are the ones with the knowledge of Europe and connections for getting young foreigners signed up.

Would you support a fans' trust to takeover NUFC actively & financially?
AyeDubbleYoo replied to a topic in Football
Truth. Be careful what you wish for. -
tbf, there's not much written about this situation one way or another that isn't ridiculous hyperbole these days. "SHOOT ASHLEY IN THE FACE WITH A ROTTWEILER, SACK WISE, COME BACK KK", blah blah blah. It's all gotten rather boring. No, what's got boring is the fact that we have bent over and taken it up the arses from the club for the last 10 years or so. That's the point though isn't it, it's a different regime now and they shou;dn't have to take the backlash for what has gone before them - no matter how bad it was. The backlash is nothing to do with previous regimes it's of their own making. Totally ignoring key areas we needed cover. Undermining the Manager forcing him to resign. Screwing up season tickets and ripping fans off with the vision they thought they were buying into over the next 3 years. Lack of communication and respect for the paying public. Disrupting the dressing room with word that everyone was up for sale. I'd say quite a few of their own there like. I don't want to use this thread to go through all of those points again, as it's obvious people just have opposite viewpoints on a lot of that - both based on a lot of speculation and not a lot of fact. Nice to hear that, to be honest I don't know a lot about most of these potential managers.
