  1. I agree with that whole post Chez, the only thing I can't see is any reason for the hatred towards Dennis Wise either. He was to blame for Keegan going and people have the right to express anger and protest at those to blame. Plus he's replaceable and it would appease many fans. You cant just demand that someone fucks about with 250m worth of their money especially as they have invested personal wealth into the debt scenario for the long term good of his investment. I agree getting rid of him would 'appease many fans', but it doesn't necessarily follow that he is to blame and/or getting rid of him would be the right decision for the club. Let's all admit this, we don't know that he was to blame for Keegan going at all.
  2. This summers influx of south american/spanish speakers is maybe a hint as to where they may be directing their search for a new man. I have a feeling your fears will be realised. Argh! Seriously though, a lot of clubs have used the theory of buying enclaves of particular language speakers or nationalities... I don't think it is a bad thing generally. Except if it leads to Gus Poyet being our manager of course.

  4. Aye, if we bring in Poyet my Ashley defending will be pretty much impossible!
  5. No not really. I think most people know that his attitude certainly added to the problem. He generally gets the benfit of any doubt though. Just up to people to decide whether he has earned that right. Its just about who was trying to do things in the best interests of the club. We have to hope that they all were but there was a clash over the way they went about it. Most people would assume that Keegan always does things with the fans and the team in mind. People are waiting for Ashley and his guys to prove they do likewise. I just about believe that, I mean Keegan has done so much for this club that it seems impossible to doubt him. But we know very well that he isn't immune to ego, emotions and mood swings - in any disputes with the board all of these things would have come into play.
  6. Not true, we have failed/are failing to reach our potential. When clubs like Portsmouth and Blackburn are regularly finishing higher up the league there is a fundamental problem with the way we are being run. Yeah, but that's not because of the current regime. We had reached a lower position than ever before (in recent times) long before Ashley turned up. They could only work with the position we were in. Getting back to the top is going to take time... I think they have taken us in the right direction so far. We were never going to end up better off than Portsmouth and chums in a year after nearly getting relegated.
  7. I don't want to use this thread to go through all of those points again, as it's obvious people just have opposite viewpoints on a lot of that - both based on a lot of speculation and not a lot of fact. All I'm saying is that the overly-dramatic reaction to what has happened this week has a lot to do with what has gone before... Souness, Allardyce, our decline over recent seasons. Why else would anyone mention the last 10 years? As far as I'm concerned that has nothing to do with what is happening now. What in that list isn't fact, apart from the unknown amount of "force" behind Keegan's resignation? As I said, I don't want to use this thread to go through all of those points yet again. People have different opinions on them. As an example, I don't think we failed in the transfer market this summer - I think the squad is better than it was before.
  8. I know, I don't think Dennis Wise is as much to do with this mess as everyone seems to have assumed though. Just because he has the 'Executive Director (Football)' title he is getting the blame. Wise is in charge of Jimenez, Vetere, and the coaches, and reports directly to Llambias, it's quite clear: http://www.nufc.premiumtv.co.uk/page/NewsDetail/0,,10278~1227633,00.html He is clearly the one in ultimate charge of deciding who we sign and who we sell. If he chose to sign a player the manager specifically said he didn't want, which is Keegan's claim, then he is the person most responsible on the club's side for the consequences. Well, he might be above him in the structure, but I don't think that means he micro-manages what they do on a day-to-day basis. I doubt Jimenez and Vetere would have signed up to just be Dennis Wise's lackies, they are the ones with the knowledge of Europe and connections for getting young foreigners signed up.
  9. tbf, there's not much written about this situation one way or another that isn't ridiculous hyperbole these days. "SHOOT ASHLEY IN THE FACE WITH A ROTTWEILER, SACK WISE, COME BACK KK", blah blah blah. It's all gotten rather boring. No, what's got boring is the fact that we have bent over and taken it up the arses from the club for the last 10 years or so. That's the point though isn't it, it's a different regime now and they shou;dn't have to take the backlash for what has gone before them - no matter how bad it was. The backlash is nothing to do with previous regimes it's of their own making. Totally ignoring key areas we needed cover. Undermining the Manager forcing him to resign. Screwing up season tickets and ripping fans off with the vision they thought they were buying into over the next 3 years. Lack of communication and respect for the paying public. Disrupting the dressing room with word that everyone was up for sale. I'd say quite a few of their own there like. 11. I hope you're right, the last thing we need is for him to bail out now because of the emotional reaction to Keegan going. If our fans continue to force out people like Ashley we'll never get anywhere. Obviously he would sell if a massive offer came in, any businessman would.
  12. Nice to hear that, to be honest I don't know a lot about most of these potential managers.
  13. I know, I don't think Dennis Wise is as much to do with this mess as everyone seems to have assumed though. Just because he has the 'Executive Director (Football)' title he is getting the blame.
  14. Never heard before What? Sorry, I forgot only ground-breaking and innovative posts are allowed on here.
  15. Is that not a big positive though?
  16. Is a president not what they have, for example, at Real Madrid? I know they've been successful, but I hate that every year some dude promises a mega signing to appease the fans and get re-ellected. Whether the manager wants these players or not seems to be irrelevant, and they do appear to have a rapid turnover of managers.
  17. Better to take time to get the right man now rather than rushing in and having another circus in a year's time. I hope they don't rush into a decision.
  18. Excellently put, not much more to be said than that.
  19. Would that person be you? He had stays at both Newcastle (part 1) & Man City which seem very long compared to some stays in the Premier League. Of course he left Fulham early due to the England job. Yeah, I didn't mean Keegan personally, I just meant that a lot of managers don't last for that long - so it would be a bit naive to think he would definitely stay the course.
  20. That and the lies they've told to con thousands of people out of thousands of pounds. If you're talking about season tickets, then I thought they were for supporting Newcastle Utd, not Kevin Keegan. I don't remember seeing any promises about the manager in the adverts or letters. If anyone signed up for three years thinking Keegan would definitely be manager throughout that time, they obviously haven't been watching football for very long. I don't think Ashley is blameless at all, but he's not the devil either. No, sorry, season tickets were sold under false pretences. People have paid to watch a team put together by Kevin Keegan, not one put together by the former manager of Swindon Town. If they were so confident of the same amount of people buying tickets regardless, why didn't they just tell the truth: "Dennis Wise will be choosing the players and we won't be spending any money. Now, that'll be £1500 please"? Just have to agree to disagree on this one. Obviously the sense of renewed enthusiasm would have helped sales, but there's no reason to believe that they hired Keegan solely for that reason. If anything, didn't we sell slightly less season tickets than in the past?

  22. They don't speak for supporters and much of what they have assumed is based on taking Keegan's side because of our emotional attachment to him... in the way a lot of us have done. Can't blame them I suppose, emotions are high, but I don't agree and won't be taking part.
