I’m not sure who the media links us with has much to do with how Eddie Howe sees the team. We do desperately need them though.

Wouldn’t be surprised if he goes on to do really well somewhere else. How many games has he played centrally behind a decent striker in a functioning team? Almost never.

I don’t think Howe shuts us down, we just retreat because we’re shit scared of conceding and we can’t keep possession.

People of the stature of Wood, or just above, were really the targets I was expecting. Was quite surprised when they started being linked with actually top European CBs and all that. I admire the ambition of trying to make a big leap forward, and of course they don't want to sign too many people that will be surplus to requirements at the end of the season. But we also can't afford to miss out on people who are an upgrade on Shelvey, Lascelles et al. Which is really almost anybody with any kind of quality. Tricky situation all round.

If this was summer we’d have no problem at all IMO. Getting people to switch clubs to a relegation battle (arguable relegation certainty) in January is going to be really hard.

I do think Joelinton should be primarily an attacking player, with the ability to win the ball back high like Ayoze. But we would need another two CMs who could cope behind him.

FWIW I think ASM has the potential to adapt his game still, he’s fairly young. He spent his newcastle career being specifically told to do everything on his own.

In theory we have a chance of beating Leeds. But practically, I don’t see how we keep a clean sheet or score more than one, therefore we probably won’t.

Could be the worst in the top two divisions TBH.
