  1. A good few years old now but I think I missed them 1st time around. 'Football Outposts' on BT sport. Tom Watt (Lofty from Eastenders) goes round the country taking in the less glamorous grounds. Did one where he started in Arbroath then worked his way down the country via the likes of Carlisle, Acrrington and Grimsby. These clubs maybe small but I even envy those fans because the people running their clubs want the best. Did another one abroad in Bosnia, Faroe Islands then Gibraltar. Well it is called football outposts ☺.
  2. Often use Brentford as a base for NUFC away games in London. Or i should say used now? Spent many a night in the Griffin. Got to know the landlord and a few of the locals. Always enjoy football talk with the Brentford fans who are used to seeing their team in the lower divisions. Would be good for them to reach the PL in their new stadium next season. Again they have a passion we can't have in our excuse for a football club these days.
  3. Basically the only enjoyment fans of both clubs have these days is laughing at each others misfortune.
  4. Can't think of anything worse than watching two teams whose fans are enjoying seeing their clubs challenging and being successful. Agreed. FA cup final tomorrow. Who gives a F? I did some ground hopping when i binned my ST last season. Got about 14 left to do although covid might see a some clubs go bust. I was envious visiting places like Cheltenham/Mansfield and seeing how enthusiastic and wholeheartedly their fans could get behind their clubs.
  5. Signed for St Mirren I believe.
  6. Was once driving behind that on the A19. Couldn't believe my eyes until I thought about it a bit and remembered how their world revolves around the fortunes of NUFC. Nearly crashed my car when I saw it.
  7. Named and shamed by Matt Allwright on the 'One Show tonight. Not that Ashley will be bothered. They spoke about what clubs are doing 're refunds etc then said a big red card goes to Newcastle United. Went on to talk about Ashley and how his shops are open etc.
  8. That shirt pic sums up the potential of this club. When we were doing well and showing ambition everyone wanted to wear one of those shirts. People were happy to put money into the club as everyone was pulling in the same direction.
  9. FTM? This is from a bloke who hates Newcastle so much he was spending his weekends in Cosy Joes as resident DJ quite recently. Not sure how recently cos I've never been back since they threw me out for abusing him when I was full o drink. Last autumn maybe? One bar I won't rush back to post lockdown, ever in fact.
  10. Good job they won't be playing each other in the league next season. That Jimmy Hill statue would have been getting pulled down Colston style ☺
  11. Keep a social distance _____ stay 2 divisions apart ______
  12. What's this i've just heard on radio Newcastle news about some video conference arranged for Monday by labours' Chi Onwura? Didn't quite catch the full story but Caulkin was mentioned and i think Kashoggis partner has been invited to speak. Chi Onwura has been anti Ashley, like most of us for years. Would be ironic if she stuck a spanner in the wheel.
  13. Passed Blue Stars ground on my lockdown walk through Denton Dene today. Seen a dumper truck coming out and I got talking to the driver. Was saying a new stand is in its infancy. Looks like a bit of framework up. He was telling me how whoever's in charge has big plans. Couple of new stands. New access road. Bit of a 'corporate' area. Probably get pie and peas like ☺. Hoping for promotions (eventually) and a good enough ground to be able to play in the cup/vase. Was saying how players are at Morpeth/Dunston etc and hopefully they'll be able to attract them there instead. The workman was saying how he was from the east end where there's umpteen clubs, Benfield/Heaton Stan to name a couple but there's a massive area in the West end without a local club. I wish them well.
  14. Cheers. Didn't miss it so much I would have paid to go back I hasten to add ☺
  15. I fall into both categories, someone who rapped early season then became a 'free ticket mag'. 1st game was in 1976. Been a regular home and away over the years. Cancelled the DD on my ST of 28 years in September when failure to keep Rafa confirmed, if I didn't already know it, that we had no intention of trying to achieve any success. Just had a lack of interest and a feeling of 'what's the point'. Once I'd gone however i couldn't hack watching reports from SJP . I watched some non league stuff, did a bit of groundhopping in an attempt to do them all but there just seemed a void in life I struggled with. I was offered a freebie and I had to ask myself whether I'd be happier going to the games or not and the answer was yes, I'd feel happier going so I took the offer up. Puts tin hat on ☺. Haven't given him any more money and thought I'm knocking on a bit (52). If I had to wait another 5/10 or even more years for new owners I might be past it. I'm just praying this takeover goes through so we can wholeheartedly get behind the club we love whether we've continued to go or otherwise.
  16. If this threads owt to go by he'll need a crash helmet on top of it if this takeover happens.
  17. Anyone remember him who regularly went to toon games wearing mock Arab head dress? Never seemed to get any grief over it. I might be one of the 'uneducated' on here. I don't follow middle eastern politics but is it only recently the Saudis have become wrong'uns?
  18. Says a lot about the madness of NUFC over the years when 4 of last nights top 10 'Bonkers premier league moments' featured the club. Always something big in the news with us. For anyone that didn't see it, they had the Dyer v Bowyer fight, KKs love it speech, Ketsbaia braying the hoardings after scoring and Pardews 'headbutt' on David Meyler. Enjoyed last nights episode for a change.
  19. This is my understanding too. An agonising wait this. If they reject this Saudi bid would they then be saying there'll be no more Saudi owners welcome anywhere in the premier league?

? did say it was an old one.

    Footy trivia

Old one this and probably been seen a thousand times but posting it takes me away from the takeover page and building my hopes up. Sunderland did it in 1979. Villa did it in 1981. Who did what in 1980?
  22. I know nufc.com have their critics, but I enjoyed the bit they did about the Gallowgate today. It's in the 'Park life' bit at the top of the page. Takes me back reading that. Such vivid memories of watching nufc in my teens. We seemed to be shite most of the time but hadn't known any different until KK arrived but it still seemed more enjoyable back then. I could almost smell the hot dogs from the little stalls, served by lads in white coats as I read it.
  23. Jermain Jenas on 'Match of their day' last night. One of his picks of his top games was the win away at the SOS when Dabizas scored that header in front of the toon fans. Said he had underestimated the rivalry and was surprised by the atmosphere that hit him as he walked out. I didn't know that was his debut as a 19 year old.
  24. KKs debut and winning goal v QPR must be up there when I think about it. Not a classic goal but to see the twice voted European footballer of the year, much capped by England now playing in black and white for us, an ordinary 2nd tier club was the stuff of dreams back then.
  25. Seemed like Cantonas' 1-0 winners always came in stoppage/fergie time that year we let it slip too.
