  1. Great story with Marine. Seen them lose a league game at Dunston earlier in the season and now they're playing Spurs competitively. Watching a bit of Chorley v Derby (kids) now but can't seem to access any of the other ties on BT Sport. Nufc.com had a load listed as being on there. Tried the red button but the BT Sport extra logo just stays across the screen.
  2. Haven't bothered to scroll through umpteen pages so sorry if this is a Giggs but seeing Leicesters' new training complex on Football Focus yesterday says it all about the gulf between us and them. Fantastic new facility that has everything while we've got plastic bins for ice baths. Brendan Rodgers was saying how they may not be able to afford 60-80 million pound 'elite' players but having the ability to attract and keep local talent is massive. They might have won the league the other year but they're half the size of NUFC IMO, but they're progressive and ambitious.
  3. I listen to Bruce's pre-match interviews and think of how they are the complete opposite of KKs. Keegan was like 'We're a match for any of these top sides. Bring them on and they should worry about us'. Bruce talks up whatever opposition lie in wait with stuff like 'We know Blyth Spartans are a good side with a great cup history and you're always in for a battle when you visit such places'. Can make the most ordinary opposition sound like Real Madrid and tell us not to expect anything before a ball is kicked.
  4. Watched 'We are the Geordies. Fantastic watch but as predicted made me sad and angry at the difference in how keen I was then compared to now. Also highlighted how this club is going to waste. We had hope and a platform to progress at the end of that championship winning season and the one after that, but Ashley's let it all evaporate. Criminal tbh. Can only cling to hope he'll be gone one day and someone with the right intention is at the helm.
  5. McManaman defending him last night, saying you have to stay in the league for financial reasons. Why do you need money? To do the same next season and every season after that, simply survive? The league table says we've got 18 pts but we're the most pointless club in the country.
  6. Worked wonders with Dundee United. Managed to win the league. Almost impossible for anyone but the old firm to win it these days...unfortunately. He gave them some great nights in Europe too. I seen his side lose the Scottish cup final to St Mirren in 87 and they were in the UEFA cup final days later. They'd beaten Barcelona along the way I'm sure. RIP.
  7. I can't believe how apathetic I am nowadays. Just 18 or so months ago when Rafa was still in charge, on that sunny day, watching a 4-0 win at Fulham I wouldn't have ever predicted I could be so detached from what's been one of the loves of my life. I used to pass a b & m store on the walk home from the bus stop after the home games and while often feeling gutted at a loss, I'd wish I was like those customers coming out not giving a shit about the score that day or NUFC. Now I feel that way, I so miss caring and NUFC dominating my life and moods. I think I'm gonna watch the 'We are the Geordies' thing over Xmas. Looks a good watch, but I know it's gonna sadden me and make me think of the then and now.
  8. Heard John Anderson saying "points on the board and staying in the premier league is what it's all about". That's this current club summed up ☹
  9. Weird seeing away fans in the old Gallowgate corner. I can remember them being there briefly but can't remember any arriving/leaving. Struggling to imagine the logistics of getting them in and out when I think about it. If that makes any sense ☺
  10. I think fans are allowed in at all steps below the Northern League mate! Cheers. Hopefully get to Blue Star v Ponteland playing down the road from me, providing the wife gets the all clear from tonights covid test that is. Was thinking i was in for an unexpected game to watch then that came up ☹. Hopefully she'll get a swift all clear.
  11. Are we allowed into alliance games this weekend? Confused by the info I've seen so far?
  12. Was convinced we were gonna win that cup that year. Completely blew it.
  13. Hard choice. A few stand out. Mcghee v Leicester in a 5-4. I think he scored a great last min winner v Bradford around the same time. There was a very late comeback v Fulham on bonfire night 1983 in our KK inspired promotion season. I think we were 2-1 down after 90 mins and won 3-2. Enjoyed an own goal by Steve Walsh at Filbert St for Leicester to win us the game when we had a very real chance of a disastrous relegation to the 3rd division. He scored at both ends. Then there's the 2nd Shearer goal at old Trafford in the semi v Spurs. I hadnt been at either the semi or final the previous season so to be there when we'd almost certainly clinched another final place was fantastic but that David Kelly winner v Portsmouth takes some beating. Sheer relief.
  14. Me and a work mate had vowed that if we won it we'd run naked through the George and Dragon from the old Eldon Square entrance and out of the exit to the bus concourse for those who can remember. Our blushes were spared but I'd have gladly got locked up for seeing it through.
  15. Sick of him talking up the opposition. Can't wait til we draw Marine in the 3rd round of the cup and he tells us "It's never easy coming to these places. They're a good side and they've had to win 7 games to get to this stage so that's no fluke. We know we're gonna be in for a battle"
  16. ?? fantastic. Funny, had been wondering where he was. Very entertaining. I'm coming down to their level I know, but laughing at SAFC is the only pleasure we get nowadays.
  17. Just been looking back pages trying to find some story about him going to play in the US...American.. 2nd division before I realized what this was saying. Sorry for the confusion. Still amazed that he'd had such an illustrious career and joined NUFC at the time, when we'd struggled for years and seemed devoid of hope.
  18. Sunderland has been in tier 3 for a few years now ☺
  19. The way i understand it, it depends on which level in the pyramid and which level of covid restrictions apply to a particular area. eg: Sat gone, Blue Star (northern alliance) could only have 40 fans in. Dunston (northern premier league) could have 200 and i believe the northern league games have a capacity of 150.
  20. The FA Cup will do what Leyton Orient had to do in the League Cup, and force teams with positive cases to forfeit. Dunston have already fell victim. Forced to forfeit their tie at Whitley Bay after positive covid tests.
  21. What's the situation with fans attending local non league games this weekend since the latest restrictions then? Behind closed doors, games off, or games on with fans allowed in?
  22. Blue star lost 2-1. Think delaval were the whipping boys last season too. The only blue star game I've been to was a 7-0 win against the same opponents last season.
  23. Was absolute stuff of dreams when world superstar KK signed for 2nd division US as a player.
  24. Fantastic! Spinetingling viewing that. God I wish I could feel so passionate now.
  25. St Mirren have had a bit of Paisley pattern in some of their kits over the years, Paisley being the town they represent. http://www.footballshirtculture.com/images/St-Mirren-13-14-diadora-away-football-shirt-c.jpg New home top not bad IMO. https://www.stmirren.com/images/2020/06/11/New_AWAY_HOME_Kit_Revealed_BLOG_1024x512px.jpg
