  1. I'm so excited about this game. It'll be great to see Owen back, but I don't imagine he'll make much of an impact. This is all part of his comeback for next season. Of course there's going to be a lot of hype around his return, but I don't think we can expect too much right away. I would start Martins and Ameobi (who has played reserve matches, so will probably be more match fit) and bring Owen on at 60 minutes.
  2. Owen will score a brace, only to be struck by lightning. The fans will blame Roeder.
  3. Tevez would be a good addition anywhere, but I want Roeder to fix this defensive problem before I even consider what other strikers would fit in our side. It's been a long time coming.
  4. I confidently stated that France would win the 2006 World Cup, a month before it began. Everyone said I was mad. They were right. But I was close.
  5. Stop all this negativity!! We have a guy on this squad who has confidence and wants to work hard to bring Newcastle glory. He expressed confidence in his manager and his teammates and acknowledged that the fans deserved more than he gave them. As for assuming that he will be picked first, how do any of you know that he was assuming this? He does speak to Roeder, I'm sure. There's a good chance that he was told he would be in the starting 11, until further notice. This interview shows nothing except that Oba is pure class.
  6. Agreed about Sibs. I don't think he was a poor signing. Also, I don't agree with blaming him for playing players who weren't living up to potential. For most of the season, he has had little options for who he was putting on the pitch. Whether or not people want to accept that our injury crisis had more to do with our current position than Roeder, this is the case. My verdict: guilty, but let's see what happens and support the team on the pitch.
  7. Yeah, I'm willing to see what he does in this transfer window and how we do next season. It's interesting to read these articles popping up about who he is defending, since he has already stated that he doesn't like certain players that came to the club before him. I think we're starting to get a clearer picture of who is going to be sold in the summer.
  8. If I had to chose between Bellamy and Crouch, I would take Crouch, tbh. But I wouldn't be opposed to seeing Bellamy back at SJP. I'm just not sure that there would be a place for him.
  9. Ok, so we're three points behind Blackburn with three games left, one of which is against them and our goal difference is one goal higher. They have: Charlton at Home; Newcastle Away; Spurs Away. Well, the way I look at it is if we win all three matches, and the Spurs land in 7th, we will be in Intertoto. I think it's possible, especially when you consider that if we beat Reading on Monday, we will have beaten the Spurs closest rival for that last spot. So, our next two games at least are of great importance if we want to get into Europe. It's nice to have something to play for.
  10. Heaven forbid we would have any positive talk on these boards.
  11. They still give Shearer as an option when personalizing the shirt. Nothing like putting his name on a kit he's never worn.
  12. This is one thing I don't abide by. But, yeah, he's rich and famous, so he'll get away with it.
  13. As much as I would like to see Man U lose, I want to see Milan get stuffed more. After the match-fixing scandal last year, I'm not sure that Milan should even be in this competition. If they win, it will be disgraceful, imo.
  14. Can't wait to see them run out in the new kit. Any news on next season's away kit?

    Joey Barton

He clearly cares about the club and the fans. Good for him for speaking out.
  16. I would suggest that we expect too much, and that's why we're always disappointed. We expect to do so well, that when the team fails, we're bitter.
  17. I enjoy these decisive statements. Personally, I don't see the point in rushing Owen back against Chelsea and risking an injury. If he's not 100% sure that he's ready by this point, then it's too soon.
  18. So, apparently, you're only playing proper football if you're standing around waiting for your opponent to make a fancy flick or a bicycle kick, rather than attempting to take the ball from them? I guess that's why England has three clubs in the Champions League semi-final this year. You guys aren't playing proper football, so it's not fair for the other countries that are.
  19. That's an interesting article for sure. I can't even begin to picture Martins, Owen and Shola in a 4-3-3. Sorry, but I just don't that will work. Roeder is a legend, though, so I'm sure he knows best.
  20. I don't disagree with your list, but I do think that Owen should be in there, if we're talking last 25 years. He is the 4th all-time scorer for England, is he not? No, honestly, is he? I think that's true, but I can't back that up.
  21. I didn't think it looked bad on him. If anything, seeing it on a normal person made me like it even more.
  22. Good choice for Benitez, at any rate. Who would want to coach a team with Ruud Van Whatsisface on it, anyhow? Real Madrid has become of the black hole of football clubs. Where good players and coaches go to die.
  23. I read a rather extensive article / interview with Roy Keane in the Guardian.co.uk the other day, and he seems like he's doing a good job moving the club forward. I was actually really impressed with what he said and what he was doing. Although it remains to be seen whether or not the club they have can perform in the Premiership, I don't think it's a huge stretch to think that they could finish above us next year. They have a coach with a vision, who the players respect. We have Roeder and a demoralized, injury-prone squad.
  24. This is good news, if it's true. It's about time I turn on my computer in the morning and read something positive with Newcastle involved. I think he's a class player.
  25. That actually made me laugh out loud. the old ones are the best I guess Some people don't appreciate when clubs poach managers from other clubs. Take my wife....please. lost in translation? That's a classic joke. Oldest joke on the books.
