From The People website. 22 February 2009 SHEARD A BECKS WONDER EXCLUSIVE By Alan Nixon Takeover wannabe Geoff Sheard is putting a team together to bid for Newcastle United - and is plotting a remarkable raid for David Beckham. The Lancashire-based businessman failed in an attempt to buy Sheffield Wednesday last year, but claims to have financial backers who could fund a buy-out to tempt Toon owner Mike Ashley. And wildly-ambitious Sheard is also making moves to hijack Beckham's move from LA Galaxy to AC Milan in case his Geordie dream comes true. Advertisement Sources close to Sheard say that he is 'days' from making an offer for Newcastle, although there are no clues about where the money is coming from. Sheard's Wednesday move - revealed by People Sport - was supposed to have major foreign millions behind it through his contacts in the game. But, in the end, he did not put any cash on the table. The Beckham plan seems even more outlandish, but an approach to the MLS to intercept the England star's move has begun. Nothing at all in that article to suggest it might be true. No quotes or anything.

Shearer without a doubt.

....in the Toons recent history. What do you think? Obviously Keegan coming in and saving us from relegation to the old second division, but i had more the Premiership years in mind. The two that spring to mind first are.... Bobby Robson turning us down after Keegan left. I honestly think that with a bit of tinkering Robson could have turned Keegan's team into champions. If only. And Fat Fred's decision to appoint one of the worst managers in my living memory in the shape of Souness. Single handedly took apart a team that was on the up and with a few additions could have been a regular Champions league team. What do you think?

Kinnear offered 2.5/3.5 year contract extension

Seriously, how can anybody believe this "challenging for everything in 5 years" crap, when the man they truly believe will achive that will be JFK? They are at best deluded... or worse incompitant. -
Llambias Q&A with Chronicle: OP updated with Thursday's articles

This from the Journal... Speaking before Kinnear’s heart scare, Llambias defended the decision to offer the former Republic of Ireland international a two-year contract. That contract has still not been signed as Kinnear argued he would rather wait until the end of the season before deciding whether he wanted to make that sort of commitment. Llambias said: “Joe has incredible experience. “He’s got incredible vision and he’s a good man manager. We think he’s a good fit for us, he’s realistic of what he’s looking for. “He’s what we are looking for. Whether he takes the contract, we don’t know. And if he doesn’t we’ll review the situation and we’ll go out again and find somebody else." What the fuck.... one day he's saying he just runs the stadium selling pies and shit, he has nothing to do with football side of things. The next he's giving us his incredibly knowledgeable views on why JFK will be the manager for the next 2 and a half years. I know he said "we", but he should have fuck all to do with deciding who the manager should be. We might as we consult the tea lady as well while we're at it. I'm sorry but i just think he's feeding us shit what he think's we want to hear (about everything else, not JFK). -
I don't wish the bloke any harm and i really do hope he makes a full and speedy recovery from his operation. But like i've said before he's not really up to the job and that lack of ability will only put even more pressure on him in the future. So it really will be best all round (especially for Joe's health) that there is a mutual parting of the ways. Get well soon Joe.
-
I would like to think that anyone with a shred of common sense can see that..... 1. Joes not up to the job on a long term (or short term some might say) basis. 2. His health is not going to get much better and the stress that his limited talent as a manager will undoubtably bring upon him in the future will only make it worse. So i would hope that all parties could see that a parting of ways at the end of the season would be the best for everyone.

on the vastly inflated wages 3/4 our team are on the club is expected to make a 20 million lost this season despite the sales of players blame shepherd for 2/3's of the financial mess the club is in Yeh i know, it was sort of a rhetorical question i suppose. That's what i mean about getting overpaid players of the wage bill. But i agree with you that the last regime haven't helped the current cause, i just think that Ashley and co. are just trying to spin us more shite until a buyer can come along and give him a healthy profit -

Like it's been said "talk is cheap". We've heard all about the building a team to challenge...blah, blah. But when the transfer window comes we make a couple of last minute bids, knowing fine well that there not going to get accepted, just so they can say "we tried for this player, we tried for that player". When if they really wanted these players they wouldn't have waited until the last couple of hours of the window. Also.... he says we'll have 8m to spend in the summer. I fucking hope thats on top of the summer transfer budget. Where does all the Sky money go? If the wage bill is such a problem, why don't they get rid of the big earners who are getting paid for doing fuck all. Okay we'll have to take a loss on most of them but in the long run you replace them with hungrier, younger players on a fraction of what they're earning. We're not stupid if it meant we lost Owen in jan for a nominal fee so we could get in a few players who'll be here for the years to come and help rebuild the team, we would've understood. (Well i would anyway). -

Great, not only is he a ignorant prick, but he also lives in cloud cuckoo land. -
This. He needs a rocket up his arse before every game and at half time. He has the talent but just enjoys the comfort zone. Have to agree with that. The frustrating thing with him is that when he looks like he can be arsed (like the Villa game), then he looks half decent and a useful squad player. But unfortuntley these games are by far too few and far between.

In an ideal world if JFK can't continue i would like a decent long term manager brought in. But if that is not possible yet then i would rather go for someone like Venables until the end of the season rather than Curbishley. -
Beardsley, the man was a vastly underated (by the rest of the country) genius. Then Shearer, Gazza (if only he hadn't left the toon so early). Non Toon? Not really any favs, I have to say Maradona though is probably the best footballer i've ever seen (in my lifetime (mid-thirties)).

Pre Match: West Bromwich Albion vs. Newcastle United - 07/02/09 3pm
beardsleymagic replied to joeyt's topic in Football
Not even in the top ten. And as for us, I think he is a joke - don't get me wrong - but there is just not the same amount of personal distaste there was for Souness and the Dyceman. Maybe it's just me but I never hated those two as much as I hate Kinnear. Then again, I don't think I've ever hated any public personality as much as I hate Kinnear. I don't hate JFK, I just think the man is completely out of his depth in so many ways. -
Don't shoot me down because i'm just repeating what i've been told (i could be true, it could be shite). Shay Given was supposed to be in a pub in Blyth (yeh i know) on the night Spartans were playing Blackburn watching the match (don't worry i asked what was Given doing in Blyth as well), and he was supposed to have said that nearly all the squad hates JFK and think he knows fuck all tactically. This was supposed to be one of the main reasons for him wanting out. As i said before don't shoot me down as i could not tell you how accurate this story is.

Exactly, why the fuck didn't we hold out for more money. They were under the ufea cup deadline, we could have shafted them for more money surely.

Shay Given signs for Manchester City for £5.9m plus add-ons
beardsleymagic replied to a topic in Football
Bitter as f***. Awful attitude. I am bitter, i also really don't want Man City to do well, not our player anymore couldn't give a toss, hope i never hear the 1 Shay Given song either. We all know why he's going. So? Comments of someone with a broken heart, more than sheer bitterness actually. Why not the summer? Exactly, for while i will always appreciate what Shay's done for us over the years, i can't help but think the timing of the move couldn't have come at a worse time. And because of that, where at one time i would have wished him all the best, now i hope City crash and burn. -

For fucks sake!! This is getting beyond a joke now!!! What kind of fuckwits are negotiation for us, we can't even get the richest club in the world to pay the going rate for a world class keeper! This is so simple. Set a price, give them a deadline, if they don't meet either one, tell them to FUCK OFF!!!
