Stockmarket Announcement - Done Deal! Shepherd sells shares to Ashley
beardsleymagic replied to Rob W's topic in Football
What a joyous day. -
I would like to think that our recent history would work in Sam's favour. We've went for the big name players (Kluivert, Viana (European young footballer of the year), Luque etc), but for whatever reasons they were not the right players for us. Now I don't know if it was down to managerial inadequacies (Roeder, Souness) or a players attitude (Kluivert) or just that the player cannot settle for whatever reasons, but I would like to think that Sam is clever enough to use our recent history and not go for the big name just because we have the money. After all it doesn't matter if we've got Ronaldihnio or Kaka or whoever because, if they are not giving their all for the team then we will have a better chance with a team of Championship players, who at least will give you 100% every game. Now of course i'm not saying for one second that we should go out and get a bunch of lower league players, but you know what I mean.

Probably Butt, and if it is the case then I would like to see Taylor as vice-captain. I know he's young and a bit rash at times but he is a future captain and I would like the managment to show him that he has a big future at this club. Would have went for Shay but I don't like keppers being captains, also not sure if Nobby will always get his game under Sam.
-
I'm sure they're working hard on it but it might be a case that the takeover business is interrupting/delaying things. Aye, ye probably right. I'ts just that i'm an impatient get.
-
Just need some news on Sam's backroom staff now.
-
Was just about to post something like this. Not sure about Rozenhal (don't know that much about him to be honest), I would like us to get a more proven centre back really, but hey, you never know mabye he's another of Sam's not-very-well-known-but-decent players. Looking at that team more I think we could do a lot of damage to most teams.
-
Thats Martins f***** then.
-
Giving the choice we have to keep Owen. No doubt about it. Best finisher in the league.
-
Or get Viduka for nowt. True.... I was just thinking about the future a bit, what with Ashton being younger. Also if he stays a WHU this season and as I suspect, knocks some goals in and generally puts some good performances in, his value with go up by the end of it.
-
With all this intrest in other strikers from WHU, does anyone else think now would be a good time to put a bid in for Ashton? Just the type of player Owen needs beside him in my opinion. Test the water with an 7 million bid and see how we go.

This man has the potential to be the worst England manager in living history. And yes even worse than Sven, Taylor ect.

To be honest I don't think thats what we need. We've still got Butt who can do that job (and he's a better passer than Sisoko), what we need is a more attack minded midfielder. -

Aye I think Butt will end captain as well. But hopefully Taylor will be in a couple of seasons. -

The lad has a brilliant attitude, he works his socks off. He's just mentally unhinged, that's all. Aye, you not wrong there like. -

Still, I think Barton might be worth a shot. If as it seems we will play Butt as the dm then I think Barton would work better than Parker did with him. And if Sam plays the 4-3-3 then he might try Butt, Barton and Emre. -

I hope we've got some transfers close to completion because with who we've let go (I know they were not good enough) and it seems like Parkers on his way out we are desperately thin in terms of squad. And now with this possible takeover, the prices of our targets might just get that little bit higher. -
Same can be said of martins to be honest. Not contributing much other than goals.
-
Hard to judge... NRC and Parker last season were, for me, way above Barton. But this season Barton above the both of them. Parker and NRC with one good season and then fading after last season? or Barton having one good season this season? I know Barton and Parker were not useless in previous seasons but this season and last season respectivly were their best in my opinion. Hard choice..... as said before each have their own merits, and I for one haven't the foggiest who we should choose. Let's just hope Sam does.

Don't see the facsination with height for dm's, Makelele isn't exactly a giant is he?
-
This is one of the problems Sam has got. Most of the other clubs know who they want to keep and who they want to buy, and although Sam will have a rough idea of who he wants to buy, he will not know everything he needs to know about our players. And won't know until we get back after pre-season training, but by that time it might be to late to offload some of the players he might want to get rid of and buy some he feels we would then need. Even if he listens to the coaches ( ) we have, he will still want to see for himself and make his own mind up on the matter.

Has Sam managed to get any of these blokes on board yet?
