For the first time in his Newcastle career he has a fight on his hands to get into the team. Don't underestimate what a fresh challenge can mean to a player whose game has been effected mostly by succumbing to the mediocrity around him. I.e. Shearer post Sir Bobby. I predict a similar turn around in form for Given. There is no fight, unfortunately he'll walk right back into the first team. Everyone knows he's a big cry baby when it comes to sitting on the bench and KK will succumb like every manager before him. I would feel totally confident with Harper in goal and feel like it should be his shirt to lose but we know Given won't stand for that.

I've been laughing for like five straight minutes after reading that.

Definitely the signing of the season.

    Old New Third Kit

You think it's gradient or more just how the light shins on it? Perhaps you can only see the strip across the chest when the light shines on it right?

Quote of the thread right there.
  6. That's definitely the word I'd use to describe him.
  7. Just saw on Sky Sports that we might be in for Johnson from Man City.
  8. Love their play on words: "Civil Wor"
  9. I think if we could have some debate about the popularisation of the word "dude" we could add a couple of pages to the count. I'll start us off my personal opinion is that, it's popularity escalated when Ashton Kutcher uttered thatmortal line "Dude, where's my car" in the movie of the same name, which was a box office smash in the year 2000. And then....and then..... I am from Florida and have been using "dude" regularly since I can remember. My dad has always called me "dude" like - "hey dude get the wrench." It really depends where you come from I guess, I don't know many people from Missouri using the term regularly, let alone the UK. (just doing my part to get to 200 pages)

    David Healy

Have to agree with this, especially if we can con Everton into taking Smith off our hands.
  11. That would be like an early Christmas, even though he's injured he's still better than Smith.
  12. some good work by our lads, keeping it on the ground and moving it around pretty well.
  13. Why the fuck is the crowd booing? It's a god damn friendly and they are booing? Newcastle fans aren't fickle at all!
  14. Let's hope, but we have been known to lose the plot when this kind of thing happens.
  15. Glad we have someone who isn't afraid to ham it up a bit when he gets tackled - I felt like we were the only club in the Prem that didn't have someone that did.
  16. Great pass by Guthrie, great composure by Milner to let it sit on the line, and great run by Geremi - too bad he couldn't put it in.
  17. Jonas brings something I haven't had in a while at Newcastle: excitement. When he gets the ball, turns, and has 10 yards ahead of him I actually get excited - haven't felt that way in a while.
  18. crossbar challenge from the edge of the penalty area? where's the challenge? my team mates and I do it from the halfway line at every practice and have gotten quite good at it.
  19. Looks as though Keegan told Guthrie to play with a bit more flair because he surely never played like this at Bolton, back heels, dummying, flair moves. If I remember correctly he was soley a workman in the midfield with very little creativity.
  20. Would also like to mention that the ref is doing a great job at laying off the whistle. There has been more than a few tackles that would have gotten called in a Prem match but he's really letting the match just go which is refreshing.
