I also think we need to take a long, hard look at fans’ relationship with wingers at this club. If they don’t lose the ball and pass it backwards: “Ahh, too safe, man! Take him on!” But if they try something daring and it doesn’t come off: “Argh, ffs, this lad’s pony!” Honestly, part of being a winger is that you’re always going to be a little inconsistent; it’s the nature of the role. You’re taking risks, trying things others won’t, and that means sometimes it won’t work. Yet somehow, the fans here still seem to expect perfection every single week. When was last time we had a winger who didn’t get trashed every other week by the fans? Ben Arfa?

Funny how people are criticising Elanga while praising Willock. I thought they had pretty similar games; both had some good moments and some phases of play where they could’ve done a bit better.

We’re so quick to dog-pile on a player when he’s having a tough time. He hasn’t been nearly as bad as people are making out; I thought he did fine yesterday, and he’ll only improve.
